Cathedral Pie House has received mostly positive comments, highlighting its strengths in terms of the quality and taste of its pies, liquor, and mash. Reviewers have also appreciated the friendly staff and overall dining experience. However, there are a few weaknesses mentioned, such as overcharging and issues with the seasoning and pastry of the pies. To provide a comprehensive analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of Cathedral Pie House, the comments will be further examined and analyzed below.
One of the most prominent strengths mentioned by multiple reviewers is the excellent quality of the pies. They are described as tasty, beautiful, and absolutely gorgeous. Reviewers praise the pies for having a good crunch on the outside, being full of meat, and having a soft base. The positive comments about the pies indicate that this is one of the key selling points of Cathedral Pie House.
The liquor, a traditional sauce typically served with pie and mash, is also highlighted as a strength. Reviewers mention that the liquor is perfect and that it adds to the overall enjoyment of the meal. This indicates that Cathedral Pie House pays attention to the quality and authenticity of its traditional elements.
The mash is another strength mentioned by reviewers. It is praised for being the smoothest fresh mash they have tried in a pie and mash shop. This indicates that Cathedral Pie House takes pride in its mash and ensures that it is of high quality.
Cathedral Pie House is also commended for its friendly and chatty staff. Reviewers appreciate the warm and welcoming atmosphere created by the owners. Friendly staff can greatly enhance the dining experience and contribute to the overall satisfaction of customers.
In terms of weaknesses, there are a few areas where Cathedral Pie House could improve. One reviewer had an issue with overcharging and had to ask for change twice. While this may have been a one-time occurrence, it is still worth noting as it can negatively impact the overall experience for customers.
Another weakness highlighted is the seasoning of the pie. According to one reviewer, the meat tasted unseasoned, which detracted from the overall taste. Seasoning plays a crucial role in enhancing the flavors of a dish, and it is important for Cathedral Pie House to ensure consistent seasoning across its pies.
The pastry of the pies is also mentioned as a weakness. One reviewer describes it as overcooked on top and undercooked on the bottom. This inconsistency in the pastry can affect the overall texture and enjoyment of the pies. It is essential for Cathedral Pie House to ensure that the pastry is cooked to perfection to maintain consistency and quality.
In conclusion, Cathedral Pie House has several strengths, including excellent pies, traditional liquor, and smooth mash. The positive comments from multiple reviewers indicate that these are standout features of the place. The friendly staff also contribute to the positive dining experience. However, there are a couple of weaknesses that should be addressed, such as overcharging and issues with the seasoning and pastry of the pies. By addressing these weaknesses and maintaining their strengths, Cathedral Pie House has the potential to continue thriving and impressing customers with their delicious pie and mash offerings.

I've wanted to try this place for ages, two visits in two days says it all.
Excellent pies, liquor really traditional, the mash brilliant. I enjoyed the hot eels, not so keen on the jellied.
I also took a takeaway.
One of the best if not the best I've been too.
They are good usually and I go there quite often. But be always careful when you’re paying they overcharged me and I had to ask for change twice and recalculate and then got my right change back with an apology, though I think the lady on till tried to trick me.
Had a lovely pie, mash and eels here on a nice Saturday afternoon. Tastes great and was a good start to the day before having a few pints. Highly recommend!
Super tasty pie and mash. Brought my mum here for a birthday lunch. Pies were beautiful a nice crunch on the outside, full of meat and soft base. Mash the smoothest fresh mash I've eaten in a pie and mash shop(that's alot!) And liquor was perfect! Ignore the previous review about the pie tasting like cat food what a load of rubbish. It was absolutely beautiful the chilli vinegar was on point. Owners friendly, chatty and doing a fantastic job from one business to another keep it up ???? Thanks again.
I've recently retired and decided once a week to visit a pie and mash shop around London and home counties . I've been to 35 so far and this still tops the list including manzes , goddards cookes , Kelly's, robins ,miller's.etc . If you know your pie and mash you'll know these places . Well done cathedral ! Price and overall experience top drawer too
Having ate manzes a lot I was apprehensive about trying this place.
It's ok, liquor was nice, mash was good. Pie is where you lose points.
The meat was unseasoned, it tasted cheap. The pastry was overcooked on top and doughy undercooked on bottom
Not the worst I've had, but could definitely be better.
I would definitely look at your seasoning though as a matter of urgency
I've been waiting to try this place for a bit and managed to get here today. We'll worth the 30 mile drive. Its up there with London's best. Absolutely gorgeous.
The best pie and mash ever. Lovely restaurant, friendly staff. The best food.
