Quick Facts About The Cork & Bottle

The Cork & Bottle is a bar that has a mix of strengths and weaknesses based on the comments provided. One of the strengths mentioned is that it is a nice, quiet bar with friendly staff and a good atmosphere. This creates a comfortable and welcoming environment for customers. Additionally, the bar is dog-friendly, which appeals to pet owners and adds to the overall atmosphere of the establishment.
Another positive aspect is the presence of two pool tables, which are highly regarded by customers. The comment mentions that these pool tables are the best in Barnstaple town centre, and they also host league games. This can attract both pool enthusiasts and those looking for a fun activity to enjoy while at the bar.
Price is also mentioned as a strength. The comment indicates that the alcohol prices are very reasonable compared to other establishments in Barnstaple. This can be a major competitive advantage, as it attracts price-conscious customers and can encourage repeat visits.
Another strength to highlight is the friendly nature of the staff. Multiple comments mention the friendliness of the bar staff, which enhances the overall customer experience. The staff's positive attitude can leave a lasting impression and make customers feel welcomed and valued.
However, the weaknesses of The Cork & Bottle are also highlighted in the comments. One major concern is the cleanliness of the bar. Several comments mention that the pub is dirty, with specific mention of the toilets being disgusting and leaking into the carpets. This lack of cleanliness can be a major turn-off for customers and negatively impact their overall experience.
Another weakness mentioned is the lack of a wide variety of pump ales. This can be disappointing for customers who enjoy a diverse selection of beers. Opting for bottled beers may provide a safer choice, but it limits the options available. This can also affect the overall perception of the bar as a place with a good drinks selection.
Furthermore, one comment mentions that the garden is very untidy and full of weeds. This can detract from the overall ambiance of the bar, especially for customers who may want to enjoy the outdoor space. A poorly maintained garden can give the impression of lack of care and attention to detail.
It is important to note that one comment describes the bar as being popular with older people. While this may not necessarily be a weakness, it is something to consider for individuals who prefer a younger and livelier crowd. However, the comment also mentions live music and a great jukebox, which can appeal to a wider range of age groups and provide entertainment for all customers.
Lastly, one comment mentions the presence of a friendly landlord who, according to the comment, does not tolerate foolish behavior. This can be seen as both a strength and a weakness. While it is important for a bar to have a responsible and authoritative figure to maintain order, customers may also perceive this as a potential negative aspect, especially if they prefer a more relaxed and lenient atmosphere.
In conclusion, The Cork & Bottle has several strengths, including a friendly staff, good atmosphere, and a dog-friendly policy. The presence of pool tables and reasonable prices are also positive aspects. However, the cleanliness issues, lack of pump ales, and an untidy garden can be seen as weaknesses that may impact the overall customer experience. It is important for the bar to address these weaknesses to maintain and attract a loyal customer base.

Nice quiet bar, friendly staff and good atmosphere. Not a 5 star as toilets were disgusting and leaking into the carpets. It's also a dog friendly bar.
Dreadful!! Nipped in for a quick pint whilst on our holidays at around lunchtime. The pub was still dirty from the night before. Lack of pump ales so had to opt for the bottle, on reflection, it was the safer option. Garden very untidy and full of weeds! It's such a shame to see such a good pub back in the day go to rack and ruin. Bar staff was very smiley.
Nice pub, decent pint lovely staff
Dog friendly, but also a lot of love for dogs from the customers! Played a couple games of pool and was not super busy
Friendly i would say its for the more older people, having said that they have a great jukebox and sometimes live music, Lanlords friendly but wont put up with fools friendly bar staff in all.
Friendly dog friendly drinkery
This is a quiet place at the very end of the high street. I've never seen it too busy, but it's a comfortable and cosy place. The staff are friendly and helpful. Other customers appear to be friendly and welcoming. The thing that I like most about this place is the 2 pool tables. So far they are the best for a game in barnstaple town centre. They also have league games here. Alcohol prices are very reasonable too compared to other pubs and bars that I have visited in barnstaple
Everyone has to go and see Steve on a night out cracking landlords, pop in on your own or with company either way you will be made to feel at home by Steve and the locals.
