Quick Facts About The Marmion
The Marmion Place, based on the comments provided, has several strengths and weaknesses that should be considered when evaluating the establishment.
Starting with the strengths, it is evident that the food at The Marmion Place is generally well-received. Comments such as "excellent food," "great south run," and "gorgeous fish" indicate that the quality and taste of the dishes served are highly regarded by customers. The positive feedback also extends to the service provided, with comments like "great service," "helpful staff," and "very accommodating" highlighting the friendly and attentive nature of the staff. The fact that the staff went above and beyond to cater to a group with small children is also commendable, showcasing their commitment to customer satisfaction.
Another strength of The Marmion Place is its atmosphere and surroundings. The comments mention "nice comfy surroundings" and a "busy, social pub." This indicates that the ambiance of the establishment is pleasant and inviting, which adds to the overall dining experience. Additionally, the availability of a range of beers and the mention of the pub being a "great spot" suggest that there is a good selection of drinks on offer.
However, alongside these strengths, there are a few weaknesses that need to be addressed. One of the most prominent issues mentioned is the state of the toilets, specifically the men's restroom. The comment describes it as being reminiscent of 1970s British Rail loos, which is not a positive image. This can significantly impact the overall perception of the establishment, potentially leading to the loss of customers. The fact that refurbishment plans are allegedly only scheduled after Christmas may exacerbate the issue, as expressed by a customer.
A minor weakness pointed out by one comment is the lack of advertised starters on the menu. While the comment acknowledges that the portion sizes of the main courses are sufficient, some customers may prefer having the option of starters to enhance their dining experience.
Lastly, there were two comments that express a sense of being rushed or unwelcome. One comment mentions feeling like the staff couldn't wait for the group to leave, and another mentions being held at the door despite not being ready to leave yet. These instances can leave a negative impression on customers, as it is important to feel comfortable and valued during a dining experience.
In conclusion, The Marmion Place has several strengths, including excellent food, great service, a pleasant atmosphere, and accommodating staff. However, there are also weaknesses that need addressing, notably the poor state of the toilets and instances where customers felt rushed or unwelcome. By addressing these areas for improvement, The Marmion Place could enhance its overall customer experience and solidify its positive reputation.

I made a booking for birthday for 18 people the knew we was coming though we would been all sat together but we wasn't and just felt like they couldn't wait for us to leave holding the door open for us to go when we wasn't even ready to leave overall the roast dinner was nice but had to share the vegetables! Also th toilet wasn't very nice ????
Excellent food great service and nice beer, in nice comfy surroundings 100 per cent recommended, thanks for an excellent Christmas lunch.
Great food and service. Cheerful and helpful
Let down badly by state of men's loos. Not sure what women's looks like but men's was reminiscent of 1970' British Rail loos which is not a pleasant memory.
I asked and at the start of November their plan is to refurbish Loos after Christmas as manager has just changed. You may have lost a number of customers by then!! I certainly will not return until we into new year
I attach photos of loo currently.
Very accommodating after the great south run as usual to baffins fitclub . Nice beer
Well, it’s no wonder the Marmion gets such great reviews having sampled their fayre tonight I can only but agree. We booked a table on line and went straight to the table after ordering drinks about 5:30 PM, nice atmosphere and an ideal setting for a restaurant in a busy, social pub. The girl who served us was very helpful and friendly, difficult when you are the only one front of house, we just got there before the evening staff arrived, so no complaints. I Initially thought it funny there were no starters (trust me, you would struggle to get through mains course with their portion sizes), just olives and bread – bit more than that, bread with salsa dip, bowl of olives, bowl of red peppers with soft cheese and balsamic vinegar dip for the warm bread, lovely and filling which is why our eyes were bigger than our tummies. Mrs B had nachos with cheese and chicken with bowls of sour cream, guacamole and salsa plus jalapeno chillies, quite fiery but very nice. I had battered cod with humungous chips, mushy pea bowl and tarte sauce (all sauces chef prepared). What a gorgeous fish, so fresh too in a thin batter and a large piece too, as good or better than any fish & chip shop. We both went for the GF lemon cheesecake, wowsers, this took the experience to a new level, it was beautiful in every way, artistic presentation with a nice strawberry & a couple of raspberries’, little bowl of sorbet to balance what I can only describe as handmade lemon curd taste to die for and a sumptious cheesecake on a light fluffy base of biscuit. At this point, there was no room for an espresso, I /we were done, you know that over-eaten feeling after a blowout Sunday roast, that feeling… To conclude, you better be hungry
Not advertised as a family pub (because it isn't), but we had 2 small children in our group for food on a Sat eve.
The staff went above and beyond to cater for us though, very friendly indeed.
The pub is lively, it was a Sat eve/night so was to be expected!
Food was in good time, tasted good and once again they did a good job sorting the little ones for us.
Will be back for adult evening, or daytime with the kids. Cheers
Was made welcome by the landlord and staff. They are trying to get things done in the pub so that young and old can enjoy good luck for the future
Great spot and cheaper than other places nearby
