Quick Facts About The Woodroffe Arms

The Woodroffe Arms has several strengths and weaknesses based on the comments provided.
One of the strengths mentioned is that it is a "locals" pub rather than a tourist destination. This can be seen as a positive for those seeking an authentic experience and the opportunity to interact with colorful locals. The pub is described as having a good old-fashioned vibe, which can be appealing to those looking for a traditional British pub experience. It is also praised for its reasonably priced booze, making it an attractive option for a quick drink.
The friendliness of the locals is also highlighted as a strength. Despite the fact that the pub can get loud as more beer is consumed, eavesdropping on conversations can become entertaining. This suggests a lively and sociable atmosphere where patrons can feel welcome and have a good time.
The presence of a woodburner adds to the cozy and warm ambiance of the pub. This can be particularly appealing during colder months, creating a comfortable and inviting space for customers.
However, one of the main weaknesses mentioned is the lack of food options. While the pub offers bar snacks, it does not have a full menu for those looking for a meal. This can be a deterrent for customers who prefer to have a complete dining experience alongside their drinks. One reviewer expresses excitement about the pub starting to do food, indicating that this may be a recent development that could address this weakness.
Another significant weakness highlighted by a reviewer is a serious issue with their booking experience. The reviewer booked a room through Airbnb but upon arrival, they were informed that their room had been sold to someone else. This highlights a lack of professionalism and poor management, which can be a major concern for potential customers. The reviewer was fortunate to find alternative accommodation, but it raises the question of reliability and trustworthiness when it comes to bookings.
Additionally, one reviewer mentions that the pub appeared old, tired, and small, with a clientele that was not to their liking. This can be perceived as a weakness for those who prefer more modern or spacious establishments. The reviewer suggests that there are better options available in the area, indicating that The Woodroffe Arms may not be the best choice in terms of ambiance and atmosphere.
In summary, the strengths of The Woodroffe Arms include its status as a local pub, reasonable drink prices, friendly locals, the presence of a woodburner, and its function as a good old fashioned boozer. However, weaknesses include the lack of food options, issues with booking and management, and the perception of the pub as old and tired. Potential customers may consider these factors when deciding whether or not to visit The Woodroffe Arms.

A "locals" rather than tourist pub...no food...apart from bar snacks.
Reasonably priced booze.
Colourful locals....very friendly actually ...however it can get interesting. Eavesdropping can become hilarious as the locals get louder as more beer is consumed.
Nice Woodburner.....
Good old fashioned boozer....
I love it
Great spot for a brew after walking around the lovely spots in Hope. They even sell Elvis juice...one of my favs! Good atmosphere and they're just starting to do food...I'm looking forward to coming back!
Pub d'habitués, on se sent un peu mal à l'aise en y entrant quand tous les potes du village se retournent pour voir qui arrivent ahah. Il possède une cour avec plusieurs table ce qui est agréable pour boire une pinte après une petite rando dans le peak district.
A great location if you're hiking from hope and a traditional British pub. However that's as good as it gets from me for this place. We booked to stay here on Air B&B for a night over the Easter weekend (2022) for the latter point. The booking confirmation came through and the payment was taken two nights before. We went to check in around 17:00 and they had sold our room to someone else! They had no rooms left and so we had to quickly book elsewhere. Luckily we managed to book somewhere in Buxton (20 min drive).
That's beyond unacceptable management and poor at best! Thankfully we were able to find somewhere over the busy Easter weekend. But it was sheer luck there was a room available elsewhere, there weren't any other places available close by. We live only an hour away, so whilst it would've been disappointing had we not found somewhere else to stay, it would've been okay. But imagine if you life 2-3 hours and booked to stay here! The local and surrounding area is popular for hikers and books up fast! That's a long drive home!
The pub looked old, tired, small and full of down and out local loud laddish lads. The reviews weren't great to begin with, and the hotel we managed to get in Buxton was great! So perhaps this was a blessing in disguise.
There's lots more classy pubs and far nicer places to stay in Hope or Castleton. I honestly wouldn't give this place your time, energy or money, let alone trust in your booking confirmation!
This place is one to avoid!
So there isn't many pub choices in hope Village. But if your looking for a well priced quick drink then here you go. When we went it was pretty quiet but welcoming. Wine choices are your entry levels with no new Zealand so we had Vodka instead
Nice pub hood location in village
Locals type pub, good friendly service. Welcoming of dogs. Enjoyable evening watching live football. Would happily go back
A good down to earth village pub which seems to exist for locals rather than tourists. Beer at normal prices, a friendly tenant, tiled floor, dogs welcome, immaculate toilets, beer garden to the rear, open fire. This pub normally opens at 3pm in the week and does food in the evening.
However by special request, (and probably not wanting to make a habit of it), the landlord opened up early for my four man hiking party and provided us with victuals, beer and tea. That's how obliging they are.
