Quick Facts About Coastguard Cafe

The Coastguard Cafe has several strengths that make it a popular choice among customers. Firstly, many customers comment on the excellent quality of the food. Both the cod and chips and the vegan options are praised for being delicious, well-cooked, and filling. Customers appreciate the attention to detail in the preparation, such as the crisp chips and light batter on the fish. The strawberry milkshake is also highly recommended.
Another strength of the cafe is the friendly and helpful staff. Multiple reviews mention the warm welcome from the waitress and the manageress, who provide attentive and efficient service. The staff are praised for their knowledge of the menu and their willingness to accommodate dietary requirements, such as offering vegan options. The waitresses on one particular evening are commended for going above and beyond in serving desserts, despite it not being their usual responsibility.
Customers also appreciate the reasonable prices at the Coastguard Cafe. Many mention that the food is reasonably priced, making it a good value for money option. This is especially important for families, as the cafe is described as a perfect pit stop for those with little ones waiting to take the train back to the funfair. The affordability of the cafe makes it a popular choice for both locals and visitors to the area.
The atmosphere and decor of the cafe are also mentioned positively in reviews. Customers describe the cafe as charming and lovely, with nice decor. The relaxing atmosphere and pleasant surroundings contribute to the overall positive experience of dining at the Coastguard Cafe.
Despite these strengths, there are some weaknesses that should be addressed. One weakness is the potential for a long wait time. A few reviewers mention that there can be a bit of a wait for the food, with one person specifically mentioning a wait of over an hour. While this may not be the case for every visit, it is worth noting as it can affect the overall dining experience, especially for those with time constraints or hungry children.
Another weakness of the cafe is its limited space. Several reviews mention that the cafe is quite small and can feel crowded, particularly when there are many customers. Some suggest that it may be more comfortable to use the nearby public restrooms before visiting, as the cafe's restroom and baby change facilities are located at the back through the kitchen.
In summary, the Coastguard Cafe has several strengths that make it a popular choice for customers. The excellent quality of the food, friendly staff, reasonable prices, and pleasant atmosphere all contribute to a positive dining experience. However, the potential for long wait times and limited space are weaknesses that should be addressed to further improve customer satisfaction. Overall, the Coastguard Cafe is recommended for its tasty food, accommodating staff, and inviting atmosphere.

My wife and I stopped here for lunch after a walk along the beach.
A lovely welcome from the waitress, we were seated and ordered our food and drink.
We both had cod and chips, and both of us commented on how lovely the food was. The chips were crisp without being dry, the fish was cooked perfectly with the batter being really light.
I can also recommend the strawberry milkshake.
So lovely to see vegan food on the menu. I had the vegan fishless fish, chips, mushy peas & salad, really tasty, hot & filling. The manageress was really friendly & helpful with the food options. Thank you for catering for vegetarian/vegans.
We popped in on a Sunday afternoon. Really attentive service and super efficient too, plus really reasonably priced. I had a battered sausage and chips, which was super tasty and we sat and enjoyed the view. What more can you ask for?! Perfect pit stop for families with little ones waiting to take the train back to the funfair!
Pretty good sausage & chips a bit of a wait, but their would it's only 200 yards from the beach.
Was here number of weeks ago with my family for our last night on holiday. Absolutely lovely café/restaurant. Fantastic food, charming atmosphere and lovely staff. Special credit to the girls who were serving us that evening as when we asked for deserts, one of the girls bless her heart was a bit reluctant as she admitted herself and the other girl didn't normally do the deserts but they turned out absolutely delicious. All seemed professionally done far as any of us could tell.
Meant to do this review after the holiday but kept forgetting to get around too it.
I highly recommend popping by if you're in the area.
Everyone enjoyed their food here. Nice decor, friendly and helpful staff. This is our second visit and we are looking forward to coming here again. As a tip if you have children etc, I'd recommend popping to the big public loos across the road first if needed as the cafe is quite small and not loads of room to move about, the single loo & baby change is at the back via the kitchen.
We love this cafe and it is our go to place for fish and chips on hayling island. The owners are lovely and the staff are friendly. Prices are reasonable and when the cafe is open it is lovely to sit inside with a cuppa and enjoy fish and chips in the warmth. When only the takeaway bit is open it is fun to take the delicious food and sit on the (mostly stony) beach and watch the waves and the clouds.
We used them couple of times now and it’s absolutely delish cod and not too greasy chips!
Our 5 year old always eats whole cod and that milky flavour.
Been yesterday just after 12pm no queue, after 1pm quite busy was, lengthy queue outside.
We are from Reading and we travel to hayling island every few weeks for that chippy.
Thank you coastguard.
