The old building of the cafe, dating back to 1590, is also seen as a positive feature, with the courtyard providing information about the history and restoration of the building.

In conclusion, Merchants House Cafe has several strengths that contribute to its positive reputation. The cafe offers wonderful cakes, coffee, and food, all made fresh to order. The staff are friendly and attentive, providing excellent service. The view from the window and the beautiful Rigg garden at the back of the cafe offer added value to the customer experience. However, the limited vegan options and oversized portions may be areas for improvement. Overall, Merchants House Cafe is highly recommended for its delicious food, welcoming atmosphere, and friendly service.

A fantastic little cafe with wonderful cakes, coffee, food and friendly service. A great view from the window too and an excellent place to sit and while away the time and watch the world go by. Highly recommend a visit!
Brilliant little cafe. Staff are super friendly, food is made fresh to order. Order right first time. The cake selection looks absolutely amazing too.
You'll be very glad that you didn't just drive by, once you try this place!
Wow ... What a lovely wee place, it's a basic cafe menu but everything is homemade and delicious! The cakes are amazing and massive!!! First time here..The food was homemade fresh and tasty I had a nice panini which was served on a main course plate, it certainly filled me up, it had a lovely fresh salad with dressing and hand cut crisps. The cakes well you have to see for yourself the variety ...amazing!! Defo going back!
In a group of 3, we tried the Hell's cheesecake, the Forest cake, and the raspberry cheesecake, and they were all absolutely delicious.
The mocha was also amazing, and they had soya milk available.
Will definitely be coming back, some of the best cake I've ever had at such a fair price!!
Zanim go dostałem zacząłem rozważać zamówienie zupy dnia, którą była zupa krem z ziemniaków i pora.
Pozdrawiam Panie, a w szczególności Panią w blond włosach, gdyż akurat z nią miałem więcej do czynienia .
This would be four and a half, if I could choose that. Fantastic old building (1590!) with lots of info about the history and restoration available in the courtyard. Nice coffee, good selection of cakes, average prices for the area (I think). Only one vegan option that I spotted though, and the carrot cake was over-stuffed with dried fruit for my liking, and too big for me to finish. The hand cream in the toilets smells divine, by the way - recommended.
It's a lovely, cozy place, the cakes look amazing, variety in the menu, the staff is very friendly and approachable, the ambience is just like being home with a bunch of friends.
Excellent coffee and breakfast waffles. Great service.
Beautiful Rigg garden and a wonderful 1750s building
