Quick Facts About The Chippy

Strengths of The Chippy:
1. Value for money: One of the main strengths of The Chippy is its exceptional value for money. Customers mention that the mini fish and chips, which costs a little over £3, includes a portion of peas and Chinese curry sauce, making it a great deal compared to other shops in the area. Many customers agree that they cannot find better value for money elsewhere in Britain.
2. Quality of fish and chips: Customers consistently praise the quality of the fish and chips at The Chippy. They describe the fish as flaky, tasty, and cooked just right. The batter is mentioned to be crisp, and the chips are cooked well. Customers appreciate the traditional flavors and textures that The Chippy offers.
3. Cleanliness and friendly service: The couple who run The Chippy are commended for keeping the place meticulously clean. This attention to cleanliness contributes to the positive dining experience for customers. Additionally, customers mention that the owners are very nice, providing friendly service that adds to the overall positive atmosphere.
4. Local reputation: The Chippy has built a strong local reputation over many years. Known locally as "Kevin's Chippy," it is considered the best fish and chip shop in Nelson. Customers express their satisfaction and praise for The Chippy, making it a popular choice among locals.
5. Varied opening times: The Chippy offers varied opening times, making it convenient for customers to visit during their lunch breaks or for a tea time treat. The flexibility of opening hours caters to different schedules.
Weaknesses of The Chippy:
1. Inconsistent portion sizes: Some customers mention that the portion sizes at The Chippy can vary. One customer complains that their fish had only a quarter portion of proper flaky fish, while the rest was thin, dry, and sharp on the throat. This inconsistency in portion sizes can leave customers disappointed, especially if they have had positive experiences in the past.
2. Rushed and loud customer service: A few customers note that the customer service at The Chippy can be lacking. One customer mentions a loud and sharp-toned lady taking their order, making them feel rushed and unwelcome. While the food quality is good, some customers believe that better customer service could elevate their experience and warrant a higher rating.
3. Closure during certain periods: The Chippy follows a closure pattern of opening for a week and then shutting for two weeks, which some customers find annoying. This can be inconvenient for those who enjoy The Chippy's offerings but are unable to visit during the specific open weeks. Adding more consistent opening hours could improve the customer experience.
4. Reduced portion sizes nearing closing time: Customers have observed that the portion sizes at The Chippy become smaller in the last 15 minutes before closing. This can leave customers feeling shortchanged, as they expect the same portion size regardless of when they visit. Consistency in portion sizes throughout the day can lead to greater customer satisfaction.
In conclusion, The Chippy, known locally as "Kevin's Chippy," has several strengths that make it a highly regarded fish and chip shop in Nelson, Burnley, and Pendle. Its unmatched value for money, quality fish and chips, cleanliness, and friendly service contribute to its strong local reputation. However, there are areas for improvement, such as addressing inconsistent portion sizes, enhancing customer service, and providing more consistent opening hours. Despite these weaknesses, The Chippy remains a popular choice among customers in the area.

Best TL Reviews

Known locally as 'Kevin's Chippy', this is certainly the best fish & chip shop in Nelson (& probably the whole of Burnley & Pendle too). The mini fish & chips (don't let the word 'mini' put you off, the mini size fish portion is sometimes way bigger than a regular piece of cod from other shops) costs a little over £3 (yes, you read that right), & that includes a portion of peas & a portion of Chinese curry sauce (which is a must). This place simply cannot be beaten on value for money probably in the whole of Britain. The couple who run it are also very nice & keep the place meticulously clean. A hidden gem. (Just wish they'd open on a Saturday lunchtime as well!)
Good portion of fish and chips, very nice flakey fish n just the right amount if batter
First class is the only words to describe The Chippy. The batter on the fish is crisp just like it should be. The fish is always very tasty just like it should be. The chips are well cooked just like they should be. The pies and puddings are Hollands so I need say no more on that.
Well worth a visit. You won't be disappointed. They put the home of fish and chips, Blackpool, in second place.
Kevin's Chippy has become very popular over a large span of years.
Perfect for your lunch break or a cheeky tea time treat.
Varied opening times so when it is open it is very busy.
Request your wants for a fish on entering and let kevin snd his handy helper do the rest.
Always consistent and never disappointed.
This used to be the best chippy around but when we visited 20/9/18 my husband was quite happy with his fish but mine had only a quarter portion of proper flakey soft fish. The rest very thin, dry and sharp on the throat I was really sad that for the first time in several years this was actually supposed to be my meal. I'm not fussy but couldn't eat all of this. It used to be top of the list for Nelson chippies. What went wrong???
Went in today with a friend, lady was very loud and sharp toned when taking order. Felt very rushed and " give me your order and get out of the way for next lot" feeling. Food was excellent and good value for money. Just need better customer service to go with it for 5 stars.
He only opens for a week and then shuts for 2 weeks ..hes so annoying when he does that
Nice fish n chips, can't go wrong except 15mins before closing time. If you go in last 15mins, portion size clearly goes smaller, it's happened to me a few times.
