Quick Facts About The Mount Hotel
The Mount Hotel has received both positive and negative feedback from customers, indicating a mix of strengths and weaknesses. Let's analyze the comments to understand its overall characteristics.
Starting with the strengths, the staff at The Mount Hotel is consistently praised for being friendly, welcoming, and helpful. This is an essential aspect of any hotel experience as good customer service can greatly enhance a guest's stay. Additionally, the hotel offers a great selection of draught beers and cocktails, which are reasonably priced, making it an appealing option for guests who enjoy a good drink. The food served at the function, specifically the buffet, is also commended for its excellence. This shows that the hotel can provide high-quality catering for events and functions.
Moving on to weaknesses, one common complain in multiple comments is that the bedrooms are a little outdated. While it is mentioned that the rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable, it is clear that the hotel needs a refurbishment to keep up with modern standards. Another issue highlighted by a guest is the smell of damp in the stairwell. This could indicate a lack of proper maintenance, which can be a turn-off for guests who value a clean and pleasant environment. Additionally, one guest mentioned that the hotel has peeling paint from windows and rotten door frames, suggesting a lack of attention to the property's upkeep.
Other negative comments include issues with cleanliness and hygiene. One guest had a disappointing experience during breakfast, as dirty bowls, cups, plates, and cutlery were encountered. This suggests a lapse in cleanliness standards and quality control. Another comment raised concerns about flies landing on food, indicating a potential hygiene problem. The most alarming comment reports a mouse sighting in a room adjacent to the kitchen, leading the guest to leave the establishment immediately. This presents a serious issue that needs immediate attention.
Despite these weaknesses, there are some positive aspects highlighted in the comments. The hotel is described as having a good selection of food and drinks, with reasonable prices and offers. It is also mentioned that children are welcome, making it potentially suitable for families. Additionally, some guests found the room to be fine, with a comfortable bed and cleanliness maintained by dedicated cleaners. This suggests that, despite the issues mentioned earlier, there are aspects of the hotel that can still provide a satisfactory experience for certain guests, particularly those looking for a quick stopover.
In conclusion, The Mount Hotel has a dedicated and friendly staff, offering reasonably priced drinks and food, including an excellent buffet for functions. However, it is evident that the hotel has weaknesses in terms of outdated bedrooms, maintenance and cleanliness issues, and potential hygiene problems. These aspects need to be addressed by the management to improve the overall quality of the hotel and ensure a positive experience for all guests.

Great staff, very friendly, welcoming and helpful.
Some great draught beers. Plenty of cocktails choices. All reasonably priced.

Overall excellent value for money and look forward to returning in the future.
What a shame. My wife and I stayed here a few weeks ago. The staff were very engaging; faultless. However, we went in to have a light breakfast. Every bowl we picked up was dirty, so cereal was out. My wife managed to fine two clean mugs out of all of them, and one of them had a chip. She sat down with the coffees and I went to do toast for two. I went to pick the top two plates off the pile, just as well as they were stuck together with a lump of dirty food. I then checked every plate and found one clean.
I put a napkin on that and went back to the sticky table. The cutlery was dirty. I found a clean knife off another table. Having retired from the police and gone into hospitality as a living for years, not one piece of this cutlery would have got out of the kitchen door at my place. Before anyone could say it was a fluke bad day, everything was exactly the same the next morning. This time we had two coffees and went to a brilliant place up the road for breakfast. By the way, The Mount looks impressive from the road, and my relatives who live close by said it used to be the place to go. Just view it from the road folks. When paint is pealing from windows and door frames are rotten, that's representative of years of neglect.
Flattered to deceive. Bath taps & shower not working. Room heater only pumped out cold air. Food very average & service below par. Accommodation in separate block on a hillside. Flight of steps outside to reach, more steps inside & no lift. Not suitable for elderly, disabled or family. Very poor all round
awful place with overpriced drinks and a mouse problem. urgently needs a hygiene inspection. left half my food due to flies landing all over it. when i went to the bar i saw a MOUSE running around in the other room by the kitchen. knocked me sick. immediately left with my family. avoid like the plague. you’ll probably get it off that mouse if you don’t.
Staff are wonderful. Good selection of food and drinks. Reasonable prices and offers. Children welcome
The room was fine, tatty in places but clean and the bed was comfy. Staff friendly. Ideal for a stopover.
The staff are friendly, helpful and go the extra mile. Lauren was particularly helpful in finding me a ground floor room for my next visit.
The beds and bathroom were immaculate all credit to the cleaners.
The downside is that the hotel needs a complete refurbishment it is to put it bluntly shabby.
I have stayed there on and off for many years but little has been done to update it.
