Quick Facts About The Royal Sun

The Royal Sun pub has a number of strengths that contribute to its appeal. One of the main strengths is its comfortable and inviting atmosphere, as mentioned in one of the comments. This creates a welcoming environment for customers, making them feel at ease and allowing them to enjoy their drinks and meals. The pub also has the "right vibes," suggesting that it has a positive and enjoyable ambiance.
Another strength highlighted in the comments is the quality of the food. Despite the small menu and higher prices compared to other pubs, the dishes are described as being on par with those found in top restaurants. This indicates that the pub takes pride in its culinary offerings and strives for excellence in both taste and presentation. The prawn, avocado, and cous cous starter is particularly praised for being delicious and worth the price.
The ability of the pub to accommodate large groups is another strength mentioned. This shows that they have the capacity and organizational skills to handle a higher number of customers, making it a great choice for social gatherings or events. Additionally, their ability to handle a large group without hassle suggests that the staff are efficient and capable.
The variety of drink options, specifically the selection of gins, is highlighted as a strength. This can be a major draw for patrons who are looking for unique and diverse drink choices. A good selection of drinks can enhance the overall dining experience and give the pub a competitive edge.
On the downside, the comments also highlight some weaknesses of The Royal Sun pub. One of the main complaints is regarding the owner's behavior. The owner is described as being rude and disrespectful, which can create a negative atmosphere and deter potential customers. It is important for the owner to treat customers with respect and professionalism in order to maintain a positive reputation.
Another weakness mentioned is the quality of the food from one customer's perspective. They found the food to be bland and the potatoes to be dry and tasteless. This suggests that there may be inconsistencies in the kitchen, and improvements could be made to ensure that all dishes meet a certain standard. Additionally, the lack of traditional fare on the menu may limit its appeal to a broader audience. Adding familiar and popular dishes can attract more customers, especially those who are looking for classic pub food.
In terms of the physical space, one comment points out that the bathroom door was difficult to open and potentially dangerous as it was close to the sink and hand dryer. This highlights the importance of proper maintenance and safety measures within the pub. Ensuring that doors are easily accessible and not causing any potential harm to customers is crucial for a safe and comfortable environment.
Lastly, the comment about long waiting times for simple dishes, especially for children, indicates a potential weakness in the efficiency of service. Customers, especially parents, value quick and prompt service, and long waiting times can be frustrating and inconvenient. Improving the speed and efficiency of the service can greatly enhance the dining experience and customer satisfaction.
In conclusion, The Royal Sun pub has several strengths, including a comfortable atmosphere, quality food, a good selection of drinks, and the ability to accommodate large groups. However, there are also weaknesses that need to be addressed, such as the owner's behavior, the need for more traditional fare on the menu, potential inconsistencies in food quality, maintenance issues with the bathroom door, and long waiting times for simple dishes. By addressing these weaknesses and building on their strengths, The Royal Sun can enhance its reputation and continue to attract and satisfy customers.

Such a wonderful pub that needs to stay open!!!
3 of us went for drinks & dinner.
It’s a comfortable pub, with all the right vibes.
The menu is small & not your usual pub prices, but for good reason.. the dishes are put together with a quality found only in top restaurants. My colleague ordered the main vegetarian dish, & I ordered the prawn, avocado & cous cous starter with fries, expecting a naff prawn cocktail dish, but it was so much more- absolutely delicious & worth every penny.
At the moment it is shut on Mon/Tues, but looks closed all the time (they are not allowed to light up the outside too much as they are close to the road). Please go here. Make it viable. Keep it open.
Dreadful owner who treated everyone rudely and disrespectfully. Can’t even believe someone running a restaurant could be so sour. The food was bland and the potatoes were so dry and tasteless. Bathroom door was difficult to open from the bathroom side. Watched three people struggle to open a heavy door with a tiny metal knob up top. Also dangerous to have the door right next to the sink & hand dryer. See photo.
It was hot inside and honestly we wished we didn’t stop there. Not much good to say except the waitresses were nice.
I’ve been visiting The Royal Sun since the 1980’s. Today my local family and I stopped to try it for lunch under the most recent managers. I must admit I was truly disappointed. The place was virtually empty, the food selection was not what I’ve come to expect from a nice roadside pub, particularly from The Sun. I left thinking I’ll give them 6 months tops before going under. I suggest they add some traditional fare to appeal to more people if they want to make a go. I am an American who treasures local fare, and this wasn’t it.
The food was sublime. My half-duck with courgettes, potato with cheese and vegetables had a superb taste and texture to it. My partner's likewise, who chose slow cooked BBQ ribs, found that the meat simply came off the bone, and was tender to the touch. A nice little place for anyone passing by.
Great spot for a lunch with friends especially if sunny outside has the terrace offers good seating space. Very tasty French fries and overall meal, but unfortunately we were unlucky with the waiting time for very simple dishes. Kids waiting 40min for a meal is something pretty difficult to manage as a parent, and those should have been prioritized, as adults could wait more if needed...
Good service and food. Able to accommodate a large group on a Sunday without any hassle.
I recently visited Oxford and found this little gem just down the road in Begbroke. Very charming and inviting from the outside and even better once we went Inside! Lovely atmosphere and very good selection of gins! Had a bite to eat which was delicious and the owners were more than welcoming. We went to go back the next day on Saturday but the pub was closed for a private event which looked like a great party I believe a wedding but absolutely packed. We can't wait to visit again and highly recommend!
Tasty Sunday roasts, beef and pork. Dessert was very good too but ate it too quick to take a photo!
