Quick Facts About The White Swan, Southampton

The White Swan in Southampton place has several strengths that contribute to its positive reputation. Firstly, the carvery on Sundays is highlighted as a great experience with good and plentiful food. This suggests that the restaurant offers a wide variety of options and delivers satisfying portions. The location of the restaurant is also praised, with a large car park available for customers. Additionally, the positive comments mention the warm welcome and excellent service from the staff, emphasizing their friendly and helpful nature. The food is consistently praised for being well-cooked, with the carvery receiving particular praise for its selection of meats and sides. Many customers appreciate the fact that the food is always hot and fresh.
The White Swan also benefits from its proximity to the river, making it a desirable location for customers looking to enjoy a meal followed by a relaxing riverside walk. The ambiance and atmosphere of the restaurant are mentioned positively, with one comment describing it as a hidden gem known to locals. This suggests that it has a unique and charming atmosphere that distinguishes it from other restaurants in the area.
However, there are also some weaknesses mentioned in the comments that the restaurant should address. One recurring issue is the difficulty in securing a table, particularly when using the online booking system. Customers mention that it can be challenging to book a table for more than four people and that the system often shows tables as sold out, leading to confusion. This indicates that the restaurant needs to improve its booking system to accommodate larger groups and ensure a smoother reservation process.
There are also a few instances where food quality fell short of expectations. One comment mentions cold vegetables, specifically cold peas, while another mentions a steak pie with hard pastry. These issues suggest that there may be inconsistencies in the preparation and quality control of certain dishes. It is important for the restaurant to ensure that all elements of a meal, including side dishes and pastry, meet the same high standards as the main courses. However, it is worth noting that some customers mentioned their hesitation to complain or raise these issues with the staff, suggesting that the restaurant has a generally positive reputation for handling customer concerns.
In conclusion, The White Swan in Southampton place possesses several strengths that contribute to its positive reputation. These strengths include a great carvery experience, a welcoming atmosphere, and friendly staff. The restaurant also benefits from its location near the river, providing an enjoyable post-meal experience. However, there are some weaknesses mentioned in the comments, such as difficulties securing a table and occasional quality control issues with certain dishes. Overall, The White Swan seems to be a well-regarded establishment, but it should address these weaknesses to ensure a consistently excellent dining experience for all customers.

Best TL Reviews

We went on a Sunday for their carvery and had a great time. The food was good and plentiful. Great location with large car park. (There's lots of signs reminding people to register their cars as otherwise you'll pay a fine).
We did not book but luckily got a table on a Wednesday lunch time. There were three of us. We were served with drinks very quickly. We did have to wait a while to order our meal. We did not use the Carvery. The menu was good and fairly comprehensive. The meal came in good time. Sadly our vegetables were cold, especially the peas. Having said that, the gammon steak I had was one of the best I have had for sometime. My wife did not enjoy the steak pie as the pastry was very hard. The potatoes and the vegetables for her meal were obviously taken from the carvery. My wife and I did have a pudding which was delicious. Maybe we should have told the staff about the vegetables/pie but just didn’t want to make a fuss. We would return.
Oh. My. Goodness. We got such a warm welcome and service from everyone, and the food is stunning! We had the carvery, the glazed gammon and turkey were perfectly cooked, the vegetables were fresh and hot, and the yorkies are massively fluffy! My partner even said they beat her mum's honey-glazed parsnips! - no lie, they were delicious!
Although no reservations are needed, even on a Wednesday lunch it was busy, so I'd recommend booking in advance. And it's perfectly located on the river, for a nice after-meal walk!
Can't fault the food or the staff, carvery has a great selection of meats and sides, always hot and fresh. Only issue is trying to get a table, new online booking system only allows to book for upto 4 otherwise shows as sold out. Restaurant area is always fully booked , yet last few times we've been the whole restaurant is empty when we arrive and when we left. Can usually get seated at bar or outside though.
First visit in a while (few years) and decided to pop in with the family for a meal. Wasn't looking for a Carvery but we all decided on this option. Can't fault the food at all. All good quality, great selection and reasonably priced. Absolutely went down a treat (empty plates all round). Will definitely be returning.
Went for the carvery. I barely finished my normal plate and the boys I went with definetely didn't finish the extra large plate. The beef dripping potatoes are some of the best I have ever tried. Turkey was lovely and moist and very good price. We went in the winter but with the river right next to it I'm sure it is an amazing place to eat and relax in the garden next to the river
Love this cute place near a lovely riverside walk, a hidden gem known to locals? Food there is very hight pub standards and staff is nice too!
Great place for breakfast and lunch. Staff very helpful and friendly. We were there on a very busy day and they were a couple of staff down. The staff that were working were brilliant. Well done all..
We have had breakfast and carvery and the food is well cooked and plenty of it which they keep topped up.
Great price too.
Stop reading this and book a table you will not be disappointed!
