Quick Facts About Backwell Fish Bar
Backwell Fish Bar is a fish and chips place that has received a mix of positive and negative comments. In this analysis, we will examine the strengths and weaknesses of the establishment based on the comments provided.
Starting with the strengths, one recurring theme in the comments is the generous portion sizes. Multiple reviewers mentioned that the portions were large and could easily feed a family. This is a valuable strength as it provides good value for money and satisfies customers who are looking for substantial portions.
Another strength mentioned by several reviewers is the quality of the fish and batter. Commenters praised the fresh taste of the fish and the delicious and crispy batter. This indicates that the establishment prioritizes the quality of their ingredients and cooking techniques, which is important for a fish and chips shop.
The fast and friendly service is another strength highlighted by a reviewer. The fact that they were able to order at the counter and receive their food within five minutes speaks to the efficiency and attentiveness of the staff. This is a valuable strength in a busy takeaway establishment where customers often want quick service.
A cleanliness and hygiene aspect is also mentioned as a strength. Reviewers noted that the shop is always clean and smart, which adds to the overall positive experience of dining there. Maintaining high cleanliness standards is essential for any food establishment, so this is an important strength to have.
Additionally, one commenter mentioned that they appreciated the option to order ahead during busy times. This convenience feature can enhance the customer experience and ensure that they receive their food promptly. It shows that the establishment is proactive in accommodating customers' needs and preferences.
Moving on to the weaknesses, there are some negative comments that should be addressed. One reviewer expressed disappointment with the quality of the fish and chips, specifically mentioning that the fish was hard and dry and the chips were dry and old. This inconsistency in the quality of the food is a significant weakness as it can lead to dissatisfied customers and potential loss of business.
Another weakness mentioned is the lack of lemon provided with the fish and chips. While this may seem like a minor issue, it is worth considering as it can affect the overall dining experience and customer satisfaction. Providing condiments and accompaniments is a standard practice in many fish and chips establishments, so the absence of lemon can be seen as a downside.
Another negative comment takes issue with the price. The reviewer spent £30 on their order and felt that the quality of the food did not justify the price. This suggests that the establishment may be overcharging for their products, which can deter customers and impact their perception of value.
Lastly, some reviewers expressed disappointment with the quality of the food during multiple visits. One commenter mentioned that this was the second time they received hard and dry fish, and this time it was even worse. Consistency is crucial in the food industry, and repeated instances of poor quality can damage the reputation of an establishment.
In summary, Backwell Fish Bar has various strengths including generous portion sizes, high-quality fish and batter, fast and friendly service, cleanliness, and a convenient order ahead option. However, it also exhibits weaknesses such as inconsistent food quality, the absence of lemon, potential overpricing, and a lack of consistency in maintaining standards. These weaknesses should be addressed to ensure customer satisfaction and to maintain a positive reputation.

Really great fish and chips shop. Huge portions, I think a large chip could feed a family of four. My husband and I both ordered large cod fish and shared a large chip, we could hardly make a dent in the chips. The fish tasted fresh and batter was delicious and really crispy. Chips were also fresh just out of the fryer. We also had a side of mushy peas (good) and a fish cake (very processed and not necessary when you’re getting fish & chips). We ordered at the counter and waited less than 5 minutes for the order. Fast friendly service. The only con was that they didn’t have lemon and you’re paying the same price you would at a pub.
I spent £30 on our order tonight. We had battered sausage and chips, cod and chips and chicken and mushroom pie and chips. The fish and batter was the hardest, driest fish I have ever had. Chips were dry and the pie had 1 piece of meat and 2 bits of mushroom. This is the second time the fish has been hard and dry but tonight was the worst. Therefore I feel I wasted £30 and regret buying it. ???? I won't be buying from there again.
Really lovely people. Shop is always clean and smart. Best chip shop in the area by miles.
Excellent fish freshly cooked portions are large enough for me but too much for the wife cannot fault
Great fish and chips, very nice staff too. Order ahead facility is great for busy times. Screens in place and people generally observing social distancing and wearing masks.
Always fresh, plentiful and delivered with delightfully friendly customer service.
Edited up to the full 5 stars as they really were a great source of comfort food for our elderly parents during lockdown and the months since. They've have constantly provided great food from the most friendly team around
Very friendly and huge portions - yes, I know I had asked for large fish and chips, but the portions were easily double the size of what I get in London (and significantly cheaper too).
I phoned our order in (we were worried they were going to shut as it was near closing time) and the fish was just coming out of the frier as i arrived - perfect!
Very disappointed with my large cod and small chips (nearly £11 so not afraid to charge)... Chips were cold, old and just dreadful; I wonder how long they were sat there for but they CERTAINLY were not fresh. The batter tasted old and was overcooked or the oil was old but whatever, it was dark and hard. The dry, tasteless fish inside was embarrassing... I waited around outside thinking it was going to be fresh but boy was I surprised. That was my occasional take out treat ruined.
Definitely going check the food before I leave, IF I go back ...
