Quick Facts About Cottage Loaf Bakery & Sandwich Bar

Cottage Loaf Bakery & Sandwich Bar has received a mix of positive and negative comments from customers. In order to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the place, we will examine both sides of the feedback.
Starting with the strengths, several customers have praised the bakery for their personally made bread rolls. The fact that people are willing to go out of their way to visit the bakery indicates that the bread rolls are of high quality and have a unique taste. Additionally, the mention of hot food suggests that the bakery offers a variety of options beyond just bread and cakes. This shows that they cater to different customer preferences and have a diverse menu.
Another strength mentioned is the friendly staff. Many customers have expressed their satisfaction with the level of service provided, describing the staff as amazing and friendly. This creates a positive atmosphere and encourages customers to return. Good customer service is crucial for any establishment, and positive interactions with staff can enhance the overall experience.
Furthermore, the complementary coleslaw given with the fried chicken order demonstrates that the bakery goes above and beyond to please their customers. Taking special care to cook fresh food and providing extra additions shows attention to detail and a commitment to customer satisfaction. The fact that the customer is so impressed that they can't stop talking about it highlights the impact these small details can have on customer loyalty.
Despite these strengths, there are several weaknesses mentioned by customers that need to be addressed. One recurring issue is rudeness from a specific staff member. Customers have reported feeling unwelcome and inconvenienced when being served by this particular employee. Rude and abrupt behavior can have a significant negative impact on the overall customer experience and may discourage new or returning customers.
Another weakness highlighted is the poor quality of certain food items. One customer states that the steak bake lacked meat and was essentially just pastry, while another mentions that the sausage rolls are dry and burnt. Inconsistency in the quality of food items can lead to disappointment and dissatisfied customers. These negative comments imply a decline in the quality of the bakery's products compared to its past reputation as the best bakery in England.
Furthermore, a customer criticizes the shift from homemade bread to frozen bread from a different location. This suggests a lack of authenticity and care in the products being offered. The comment indicates that the bakery is no longer unique and has lost its distinct appeal. If true, this change in sourcing can be seen as a significant weakness, especially for a bakery that was once considered the best in the area.
One customer also raises concerns about hygiene practices, specifically the handling of food without gloves and the lack of handwashing between handling money and food. Hygiene is essential in any food establishment, and these comments highlight potential health and safety issues. This is a significant weakness that needs immediate attention to ensure the well-being of customers and maintain a good reputation.
In conclusion, Cottage Loaf Bakery & Sandwich Bar has strengths in its personally made bread rolls, diverse menu, and friendly staff. However, weaknesses include rude service, poor food quality, the shift to frozen bread, and hygiene concerns. To improve, the bakery should address these weaknesses by training staff on customer service, ensuring consistency in food quality, reconsidering sourcing decisions, and implementing proper hygiene practices. By addressing these issues, the bakery can strengthen its reputation and increase customer satisfaction.

My wife and I go out of our way to visit this place. Amazing personally made bread rolls. Hot food and of course cakes and bread.
Justaff member was so rude and abrupt not one smile, seemed to be an inconvenience to her to even serve me. The steak bake had no meat in it just a thin layer of sauce in the centre, was basically just pastry. Had to chuck it away the sausage rolls are drys and anything and the sausage and bacon is cooked left out then cooked again andend up being burnt. Stay clear of this place
Great little shop, staff are amazing. I've been using the place for years snd will continue to do so..
Very friendly staff and food is tasty.
I ordered some of their amazing Fried chicken. They took special care to cook it fresh and also gave me some complementary coleslaw. I can't stop telling everyone about this little local secret. Fantastic.
This is no longer a bakery. The baker retired, these people sold the ovens for scrap metal and now sell frozen braces bread from newport. Buy this from the supermarket, its fresher and not frozen. I used to come here every day for a pasty and a sausage roll made with sausate meat from Rob Hodder, the butcher next door. Now, the frozen pastries they get from lidl are consistently undercooked and palid. There is no reason to visit. In fact please stay away until they go bankrupt. At least then there is a small chance this former bakery may be bought by someone who will bake. It used to be the best bakery in England, now is makes Greggs look like michelin star cuisine. Boycot these lazy owners who swapped europes best bread for frozen cardboard from Newport, a factory all the way miles and miles distant in Wales.
I was shocked and dismayed to see the staff handling food without disposable gloves on and then horrified to note that they took money from customers and then went back to handling food without either washing their hands or putting gloves on.
I was in the cafe area for approx 30 minutes during the lunch hour rush and all the staff were handling money and then handling food consistently.
Such a shame!!
