Quick Facts About Oldfields Fish & Chips
Oldfields Fish & Chips has several strengths and weaknesses based on the comments provided.
One of the major strengths of Oldfields Fish & Chips is the portion size. Many customers note that the portions are large, which is seen as a positive attribute. This appeals to individuals who have a hearty appetite or who are looking for a satisfying meal. According to one comment, the larger portions are considered worth the higher cost, indicating that customers perceive good value for their money in terms of quantity.
The friendliness of the staff is another strength mentioned by customers. Multiple individuals have had positive experiences with the staff, describing them as nice and friendly. This can contribute to a welcoming atmosphere and enhance the overall dining experience. Positive interactions with staff can also encourage customers to return and recommend the place to others.
The quality and taste of the food is also praised by some customers. The comments mention that the food is fresh and great. This indicates that the establishment pays attention to the quality of their ingredients and cooking techniques. Additionally, the fact that some customers are frequent visitors, having dinner from Oldfields Fish & Chips a couple of times a week, suggests that they perceive the food to be consistently satisfying.
The chips at Oldfields Fish & Chips are highly regarded by customers. They are described as the best chips for miles, which implies a high level of quality and perhaps a unique preparation method. The fact that one customer specifically mentions not being able to drive past the restaurant without eating the chips further attests to the quality and appeal of this particular item. This positive feedback regarding the chips could serve as a unique selling point for the establishment, enticing customers to visit specifically for this item.
The weaknesses of Oldfields Fish & Chips primarily revolve around the staff and some inconsistencies in the food. Some customers feel that the staff is slow, and there are doubts about their level of experience. This can impact the overall efficiency of the service, potentially leading to longer wait times or delays in receiving orders. However, it is important to note that one customer considers it acceptable for new staff members to be slow as they learn the ropes. This suggests that the issue of slow service might be temporary and can be improved over time.
One customer was disappointed with their order, as what was supposed to be plaice and chips turned out to be cod. This suggests a lack of attention to detail and accuracy in food preparation. While this could be a one-time incident, it raises concerns about consistency and accuracy in fulfilling customer orders.
Another customer voiced dissatisfaction with the staff's motivation and customer service. They felt rebuffed when attempting to order certain items from the menu, which left a negative impression. Their experience indicates a lack of professionalism and attentiveness from the staff.
While the overall feedback for Oldfields Fish & Chips is generally positive, with customers praising the portion size, friendly staff, great chips, and tasty food, there are areas that require improvement. Addressing the issues related to slow service, accuracy in fulfilling orders, and staff motivation would contribute to enhancing the overall customer experience and satisfaction.

Portions were large. But cost a bit more. But when you see the larger portions it's worth it.
Staff were a little slow, but was unsure if they were new. So nothing really to complain about, as everyone has to start sometime and learn.
Nice and friendly had my dinner from here a couple of times a week I would recommend it
Nice grub, opens 11.30am all through till late.
Best chips for miles. I can't drive past it. Must eat chips.
Fresh great food and friendly service by the boss
Ordered plaice and chips waited for it to be cooked, when I got it home was astonished that it had turned into cod!! Surely it’s not that difficult to identify different types of fish.
I don’t like cod but my cats thought it was xmas they enjoyed it very much
Staff are poorly motivated and standoffish. I was initially rebuffed from ordering basic and common menu items more than an hour before closing, I had to be quite forceful to actually have them cook items from the menu. Gives a very poor impression.
Pretty much bang on chippy: these chips absorb vinegar as opposed to a few other places where the chips are basically hydrophobic- leaving a puddle of vinegar at the bottom. These were excellent chips! Sausages were hit and miss, mine was great but my wife's looked too brown on the inside which put her off considering mine wasn't. Curry sauce was spot on too.
