Quick Facts About OTAKU SUSHI
OTAKU SUSHI appears to have several strengths based on the comments provided. One of the most prominent is the excellent service and friendliness of the staff. Customers repeatedly mention the accommodating and welcoming nature of the servers, such as Chelsea, who went out of her way to find a seat for a couple who had not made reservations. This kind of positive interaction contributes to a memorable dining experience, as mentioned by multiple individuals.
The food at OTAKU SUSHI is consistently praised as outstanding, amazing, and delicious. Commenters highlight the uniqueness and authenticity of the Japanese cuisine served at the restaurant. Dishes like Unagi (eel) and deep-fried soft shell crab are mentioned specifically as being exceptional and some of the best the customers have ever had. The eel is described as smoky and soft, served on a pillow of sticky rice and beautifully presented. Additionally, the chicken tori katsu is noted for being light and crispy, paired with a flavorful curry sauce. The use of fresh ingredients, such as chili and garlic endemame, is also appreciated by customers, who feel that the food is worth the price paid.
The atmosphere of OTAKU SUSHI is repeatedly praised for being gorgeous and authentic. The restaurant offers traditional Japanese seating with low tables and floor cushions, creating a unique dining experience for customers. The ambiance is described as great and contributes to a lovely time at the establishment. The booths and overall design of the restaurant are also mentioned as being aesthetically pleasing and suitable for taking photos.
Additionally, OTAKU SUSHI offers a broad menu selection, catering to a diverse range of preferences. The variety of options, from sashimi to hand rolls to bento or donburi, is appreciated by customers who want to explore different Japanese dishes. The restaurant is seen as a strong mid-tier Japanese option due to its menu diversity.
However, despite these strengths, there are a few weaknesses indicated in the comments. One concern is the pricing. Some customers feel that the prices are higher than expected or than what is listed on the website. The discrepancy in pricing for the Agedashi Tofu, for example, is mentioned, with one customer expressing disappointment in the portion size and lack of accompanying ingredients. This inconsistency between the website and actual prices may lead to confusion and dissatisfaction among customers.
Another weakness pointed out by a commenter is the potential lack of authenticity. While the food is generally seen as authentic and delicious, the fact that the staff speaks Cantonese amongst themselves raises a question about whether the restaurant is truly Japanese or Hong Kongese ran. This observation may not sit well with individuals seeking a completely authentic Japanese dining experience.
In conclusion, OTAKU SUSHI has several strengths, including excellent service, outstanding food, a gorgeous atmosphere, and a diverse menu selection. However, there are also a few weaknesses, such as potential pricing discrepancies and concerns about authenticity. Overall, based on the comments provided, it seems that OTAKU SUSHI offers a unique and enjoyable Japanese dining experience.

Okay I have to say this is the most unique japanese food experience I have had in the UK for the last 10 years.
The service was excellent and very friendly,
The food was beyond amazing,
And the atmosphere was gorgeous.
Thank you so much for a gorgeous evening and food ♡♡♡
Wow! First time here. Just got a takeaway for lunch. Opted for the Unagi (eel) and deep fried soft shell crab. Both were outstanding. Best I've had by far. Crab was juicy on a little bed of cabbage, carrot and sesame seeds. Eel was smoky and soft on a little pillow of sticky rice and beautifully presented. It's fairly pricey but as an occasional treat, absolutely superb. Beyond anything you'll get in a supermarket. I finished off just stuffing the ginger doused in soy and wasabi!
Fantastic Japanese restaurant my partner and I chanced upon today. Our server Chelsea was quite friendly and accommodating and got us a seat (despite not having made previous reservations) at one of those booths with low tables where you have to take your shoes off and sit on futton cushions to eat.
Food was excellent and well worth the price paid. For starters, we had chili and garlic endemame that were fresh and seemed like it was picked out of a back garden. For the mains, the chicken tori katsu was light and crispy and the curry sauce it was bathed in was thick and very tasty. The unagi was covered in light flavourful teriyaki sauce and was grilled to perfection. It also came with miso soup which I appreciated this chilly day.
Overall, my partner and I had a lovely time and will definitely come back in the future to try the sushi and ramen.
Firstly the menu and prices are outdated on their website. Online it says the Agedashi Tofu is £4.80, it is now £8, that's £2 per small cube of tofu! The tofu was also deep fried in tempura batter rather than lightly fried on potato starch, so it was thick, they also hadn't pressed the tofu beforehand, so there was too much moisture making the batter soggy, and the tofu lacking flavour. And as you can see in the photo, there wasn't any daikon radish or spring onion, struggling to understand how they changed £8 for this.
For the unagi donburi, the uniagi was quite thin and I think they used teriyaki sauce rather than kabayaki, and the sauce was cooked for slightly too long as it was on the bitter end (high sugar content in sauce burns easily).
The staff all spoke to each other in Cantonese, so it may be Hong Kongese ran Japanese restaurant rather than authentic Japanese.
Surprisingly authentic! Great ambience, gorgeous food, reasonably priced and welcoming staff. We've tried their set menu for two people and that allowed us to try a bit of many specialties. You can't go wrong, we are definitely popping back!
This is a great sushi place if you want to weeb out. Rather than focusing they have instead give for a broad menu selection from sashimi to hand rolls to bento or donburi and a bunch of street food. The atmosphere makes for good photos with plenty of booths.
Really strong mid tier Japanese option with broad selection. Diversity is the game, except for their sake.
Food is delicious and definitely worth the price. Beef Ramen and Tuna Sashimi pictures attached
Edit:
Had to go back a second time it was so good. This time I had the beef gyu donburi, (which was the best beef I've ever tasted), as well as some chicken gyoza. I've also attached an image of my friends tako yaki as well.
Amazing sushi, some of the best I've ever had. Staff are friendly and the authentic Japanese style is a very nice touch!
