Quick Facts About Penang Satay House
Penang Satay House is a restaurant located in the north of London that serves amazing far eastern food. According to the comments provided, the restaurant has several strengths that make it stand out among others in the area.
Firstly, the restaurant is praised for its welcoming and helpful atmosphere. The waitress (who may be the owner) always welcomes customers with a huge smile, creating a positive and inviting dining experience. The atmosphere is described as warm and cozy, with no noise or loud music, making it perfect for chatting, a date night, or a quick dinner out. This creates a pleasant ambience that adds to the overall dining experience.
Another strength of Penang Satay House is the set menu, which is highly recommended by customers. The set menu offers an amazing assortment of food at a reasonable price. Customers can expect to receive everything listed on the menu, with the exception of dessert, which offers a choice. Additionally, the set menu comes with prawn crackers as a pre-starter, adding value to the dining experience.
The restaurant also receives positive feedback for its efficient and excellent service. Customers appreciate the quick and friendly service provided by the staff, which is particularly important for those who are fasting during Ramadan. The efficient service ensures that customers can enjoy their meal without any unnecessary delays. Furthermore, the restaurant offers good portion sizes, making it suitable for families and individuals alike.
Penang Satay House is also commended for its variety of vegetarian options. Customers appreciate the availability of vegetarian dishes, as well as the spectacular flavors they provide. This demonstrates the restaurant's commitment to catering to different dietary preferences and ensuring that all customers can find something enjoyable to eat.
Additionally, the restaurant receives praise for its authenticity and quality of food. Customers who are familiar with Malaysian cuisine appreciate the authentic taste that Penang Satay House provides. The restaurant has been operating for over 35 years, which speaks to its consistent quality and traditional recipes.
However, despite these strengths, there are a few weaknesses that should be addressed. One customer mentions that the restaurant is not open on Tuesday evenings, which has caused them to miss out on dining there multiple times. This could be seen as a missed opportunity to attract customers on a day when they are specifically looking to dine out.
Another customer mentions that while the overall experience was enjoyable, there were some slight deviations from authentic Malaysian cuisine. These deviations include smaller rice cubes and a lack of chili in the peanut sauce. While these may be minor issues for some, they can affect the overall authenticity and taste of the dishes.
Additionally, one customer mentions encountering moody service from a waitress. While this seems to be an isolated incident, it's important for the restaurant to ensure that all staff members provide consistent and friendly service to maintain a positive reputation.
In conclusion, Penang Satay House has several strengths that contribute to its popularity in the north of London. These include a welcoming atmosphere, an amazing assortment of food on the set menu, efficient service, a variety of vegetarian options, and authentic flavors. However, it should address its limitations, such as limited opening hours, slight deviations from authentic cuisine, and the occasional moody service. By addressing these weaknesses, Penang Satay House can continue to thrive and provide a memorable dining experience for its customers.

Best restaurant around the north of London. Among all the Turkish and Indian places, this place stands its ground and serves amazing far eastern food. We keep going back. We stopped counting how many times. The waitress (owner?) always welcomes us with a huge smile. The atmosphere is amazing. It's always warm and cosy, no noise, no loud music. Perfect for chatting, or a date, or just a quick dinner out.
The set menu is really worth the price and you get an amazing assortment of food. You'll get everything listed there except the dessert which is "choose one". In the pictures you can see "Menu C" for 3 people. You'll also get really nice prawn crackers with anything you eat as a pre-starter.
Note for the owner: for some reason we always want to go out for dinner on Tuesday evening, but then you're not open :( We didn't go at least 5 times in the last months because of this.
Delicious welcoming very helpful atmosphere and excellent efficient service! It was lovely and inshallah will go there again after Ramadan. The prawns dishes were delicious and the Malaysian chicken curries, beef curries, nasi goreng , beef and chicken satay yummy. Good portions, quickly served as my hubby and children were fasting and all halal. Good prices and affordable. Definitely recommend this place to families who love Malaysian food and people with great taste and hospitality.
Had a great dinner with friends. Great to taste and learn about new foods.
Lots of vegetarian options and the flavours spectacular.
I just discoverd this place with my brother, we took set A to share, it was really good and unique, i really liked orange chicken and prawns with bamboos. Dessert was amazing. Really recommend this place and definitely I will be back here ;)
Fantastic service, brilliant food, and lovely people. Our family have been coming here for years, and I highly recommend visiting Satay House. I recommend lobak, crispy tofu, any of the beautiful yellow curries (the prawn is my favourite), and crispy noodles too from the mains. The gadoh-gadoh in peanut sauce, chicken satay and spring rolls satay are fantastic too from the starters.
We ordered the special fish, fried rice, house special satay and laksa soup. As a Malaysian, I would say the menu is kind of authentic though there are some slight deviations which I found to be unique such as the special fish served with satay peanut sauce. The rice cubes served with satay was also much smaller than what we get at home and the satay did not have that nice char. The peanut sauce was also slightly underwhelming due to the lack of chili. Other than that, the nasi goreng (fried rice) and other dishes were very affordable for what you get and tasty! I think we may have ordered the wrong stuff so I am very intrigued to try again and support this cute Malaysian gem!! <33 :) I also really enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurent as I got to see people enjoy Malaysian food!! One slight qualm was some questionable service as the waitress was kind of moody but the Auntie was so sweet!
I have lived in North London all my life and have been going to Penang Satay House for over year. Dining at the restaurant and also having delivery take aways to my house.
I can say that the food if of good quality and has a traditional authentic taste which is hard to find lately.
The restaurant has been there for over 35 years hence giving good taste to the dishes.
Another advantage is that owner has said that the chicken and beef is halal. Also when they cook they use different pans and utensils to cook these dishes.
Very good customer service, food was excellent ????
