Quick Facts About Pika Pika Hair Salon
Pika Pika Hair Salon has a number of strengths and weaknesses based on the comments provided.
One major strength of the salon is its ability to deliver excellent haircuts and styles. Many customers praised the skills of the stylists, mentioning that they were able to achieve the desired cut or style. Jian, in particular, was highlighted for her ability to communicate effectively and deliver fantastic results. Amy also received positive feedback for consistently giving the best men's cut in the area. These positive reviews indicate that the salon has skilled stylists who can meet the needs of a diverse range of customers.
Another strength of Pika Pika Hair Salon is its professionalism. Customers mentioned that the staff was friendly, helpful, and professional throughout their experience. Lily, in particular, was commended for her kindness and use of quality products. Customers also appreciated the consultations they received and the recommendations given by the stylists. This professionalism creates a positive and comfortable atmosphere for customers, enhancing their overall experience at the salon.
The salon's ability to handle various hair treatments and coloring is also a strength. Jenni was praised for her ability to correct a previous color job that had turned orange, successfully achieving the desired darker color and low maintenance look. Julie was also highly praised as the best colorist in Georgia, known for keeping hair in great condition and providing expert advice. This expertise and range of services make Pika Pika Hair Salon a trusted choice for customers seeking quality color treatments and consultations.
However, there are also some weaknesses mentioned in the comments. One recurring issue is the salon's scheduling system. One customer mentioned an error in her scheduling, resulting in a disappointment on her first visit. Another customer stated that the salon was busy and that reservations are recommended. These instances suggest that the salon may struggle with managing appointments and accommodating walk-ins during peak times. Improving their scheduling system and managing the customer flow more efficiently could enhance the overall customer experience.
A major weakness highlighted in one comment is the failure to meet the customer's specific requests during a bleaching session. The customer expressed frustration that none of their requests for prominent money pieces and a slight shadow near the roots were honored, resulting in a patchy, uneven look. Additionally, the customer mentioned that a significant chunk of their hair was damaged and broke off during the process. This indicates a lack of attention to detail and an inadequate professional consultation. The salon needs to improve communication and ensure that stylists understand and fulfill the specific requests of their clients, while also prioritizing the health and integrity of the hair.
Finally, one customer mentioned that although they had an overall okay experience, they would not return to the salon due to a disappointing haircut. The customer requested layers that started at their chin and got longer in the back, but instead, the front of their hair was cut too short, resulting in an asymmetrical and unsatisfactory look. This points to a lack of patience from the stylist and a failure to consult with the client before making significant changes. Ensuring that stylists have a thorough understanding of the desired cut and regularly communicate with the client during the process can help avoid similar issues in the future.
In conclusion, Pika Pika Hair Salon has significant strengths in terms of skilled stylists, professionalism, and expertise in color treatments. However, there are areas for improvement, such as scheduling efficiency, attention to detail, and effective communication with clients. By addressing these weaknesses, the salon can better deliver an exceptional customer experience.

I had originally called to book just a trim since my hair was damaged and is thick, but when I arrived it was busy and an error had happened so I wasn’t on their schedule. I was a little disappointed, but no problem. I called back the next morning to re-schedule, and since I had more time decided to get a color and cut as well. I had gotten my hair bleached and toned (to a grey/silver balayage) at a different place earlier this year, but the color had faded back to blonde.
My stylist was Jian, who did an incredible job. She cut the area that was dry/damaged off, put in thin layers, gave me curtain bangs, toned my hair, and styled it with waves. I wasn’t sure if I would need to bleach it again first to make it light enough for the toner, but they said I didn’t have to, which was good so my hair didn’t get more damaged. The whole process took about 2-2.5 hours, which was great. I don’t speak Korean, and Jian didn’t speak much English but we were still able to communicate with the help of other staff to get the results I wanted. She was very professional and I love what she did to my hair.
I am from out of state and was in town visiting, but I will definitely be back next time to get my hair done here.
Amy 샘 has consistently given me the best men's cut in the Duluth area. I'm Korean so it feels great to get a Korean cut (not the LA black tee shirt works out too much spiked hair cut, but a REAL Korean style men's cut). It's Dec 2022 and I paid $30 (tip was extra). They do take Venmo for tips if you don't have cash, but...try to bring cash to tip cause they're really good. Also, try to make a reservation cause they're busy as heck.
Jenni did an AWESOME job. I originally went to a different salon to color my jet black hair to an ash brown which then turned to this orange brass color after 3 months. I wanted to go darker which was chocolate with some highlights and Jenni took care of that. I only have to come back in two months for a toner but I like a very low maintenance hair and she did a phenomenal job! I immediately booked ahead to secure my spot.
Even if you don't get Jenni all their staff are professional and talented. You won't be disappointed - I observed a lot during my processing time.
Over all it was an ok experience but I don’t think I will go again. It was my first time getting my hair cut here, and my hair was a little shorter than waist length. I wanted to get it cut just below my shoulder with layers, and although the layers in the back of my hair look good the front of my hair is entirely too short. I asked for layers starting at my chin and getting longer in the back, and instead there is a big chunk of my hair that is short in the front and the rest of my hair is longer. For such a big change I think the hairstylist should have been more patient and checked with me if I liked the length she was cutting it to before going through with it. Rule of thumb should always be that hair can be cut off but not added back, and I don’t think my hairstylist kept that in mind while cutting my hair. I am disappointed since I had seen good reviews :/
Pika Pika is located in a Korean shopping center in Duluth, and it's a pretty cute salon.
The reason why I didn't had a haircut in so long is because when I trusted anyone with my hair before, it all ended bad. I wanted to make sure that the person treating my hair again knew what they were doing. Since they had pretty good reviews on Yelp I decided to give it a try.
I called to make an appointment, but the lady on the phone said that I could just walk in since it was slow. When I walked in, all the ladies where having lunch, so the place was kinda smelly.
A lady named Lily (I believe) told me to seat in her booth, and proceeded to cut my hair. She was really nice, but struggled with my hair maybe too much.
I asked her to cut as much as she wanted, and only leave healthy ends. I appreciate the fact she didn't cut as much as other people have in the past.
She used very good products, and my hair felt so much better after. She gave me some recommendations which were pretty helpful, and did a very good job in my hair after all.
I'd probably be back in the future if I don't decide to try another place.
Got my hair bleached twice and still didn't get the results I wanted. The problem wasn't that it wasn't light enough - I understand that's sometimes out of their control - but it was the fact that none of my requests were honored and it looks incredibly patchy. I asked for very prominent money pieces - didn't get them either time. I asked to lighten close to my roots and leave just a slight shadow (~1cm) of my dark hair so it grows in well - only did that where my hair was parted at the top and everywhere else there was a 2 inch block of black hair. At the section they bleached last it was nearly the same orange color it was before. The worst part is a HUGE chunk of my hair was fried off — not just damaged, but physically broke off. All in all there was little professional consultation that went into this. After two bleach session and $700 down the drain I don't understand how this could be the product of it all. Gave them two chances but I'm never coming back.
Amazing people! Extremely friendly and professional. Didn't know what I wanted, they were patient and very helpful. First time here, and I will be back
I LOVE Pika Pika. The atmosphere is super cool and so are the people that work there. I’ve been going for years getting my hair colored and treated by Julie. She is the best colorist in Georgia hands down. I’ve had every hair color you can imagine and she always manages to keep my hair integrity in great condition. She consults me about the potential risks and suggests healthy alternatives and assures me what she is capable of. I trust no one else with my hair and I will continue to go and refer anyone I know that is looking for a great hairstylist/colorist. I’ve also gotten a hair cut by Juno and he is AMAZING with sheers. Seriously amazing. Highly recommend this salon.
