Quick Facts About Scarborough Public Market

Scarborough Public Market Place has several strengths that make it a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. One of the main strengths is the quality of the produce, particularly the fruit and vegetables. According to one comment, the market offers sehr schönes Obst und Gemüse (very nice fruit and vegetables), which suggests that customers are satisfied with the freshness and taste of the products available. This is an important strength as it caters to customers who prioritize quality when shopping for groceries.
Another strength mentioned in the comments is the presence of a café called Bakers and Brew. The café is described as a "little gem" that offers food cooked fresh and to order. Customers appreciate the tasty food and good value for money. The staff at the café are commended for being exceptionally welcoming and attentive. The presence of a good quality café adds to the overall attractiveness of the market, as customers can enjoy a meal or a cup of tea/coffee while shopping or exploring the market.
The market is also praised for its hidden gem status. One comment describes the market as amazing and a place that is worth exploring. The market offers a variety of stalls, including fresh fruit, meat, and fish, as well as small independent businesses. This variety adds to the appeal of the market, as customers can find a wide range of products all in one place. Additionally, the market has an underground section called the Market Vaults, which is described as quirky and vibrant. The Market Vaults offers collectables, gifts, and handmade shops, providing an alternative shopping experience to the main market hall. The presence of both the main hall and the Market Vaults makes the market a unique and interesting destination for shoppers.
Another strength mentioned is the historical significance of the market building. The building is described as quite old, easily over 100 years, but it has been refurbished 6 years ago. The refurbishment likely improved the overall aesthetics of the market, making it a more appealing place to visit. The historical significance of the building adds to the charm of the market, as customers can appreciate the architectural and cultural value of the space.
Additionally, the market is commended for its food offerings. One comment mentions visiting the market for three consecutive days and enjoying delicious food each time. The Deli Delicious Cafe is specifically mentioned as a place where customers can enjoy cake, coffee, breakfast, and lunch. The fact that the café allows dogs adds to the market's appeal, as pet owners can bring their furry friends along while enjoying a meal.
Despite its strengths, Scarborough Public Market Place also has a few weaknesses. One comment mentions that the café can be a little cold, indicating that the temperature inside may not be ideal for customers, especially during colder months. This is a minor issue but could potentially affect the overall dining experience for some customers.
Another comment suggests that the Market Vaults are more appealing than the main market. This suggests that the main market hall might not be as captivating as the underground section. While the presence of the Market Vaults is a strength, it also highlights the potential weakness that the main market may not live up to the same level of charm and uniqueness.
In conclusion, Scarborough Public Market Place has several strengths that make it an attractive destination for customers. The quality of the produce, the presence of a café, the variety of stalls, and the historical significance of the building are all positive aspects of the market. However, there are some minor weaknesses, such as potential temperature issues and the possibility that the main market hall may not be as captivating as the underground Market Vaults. Overall, the strengths of the market outweigh its weaknesses, making it a recommended place to visit.

Sehr schönes Obst und Gemüse, aber gewachste Äpfel (Poliert)
Bakers and brew cafe is a little gem! Food cooked fresh and to order. Tasty and very good value for money. They have a basic breakfast but for the hungrier of us, they have other items to add if you so wish. Staff are exceptionally welcoming and attentive. Good quality food and a really good cuppa too! Nice friendly atmosphere well worth a visit.
Highly recommend.
What an amazing hidden gem this place is. Upstairs in the main market hall there are 2 floors to explore. Offers fresh fruit, meat and fish as well as many small I dependant businesses. Then when you step outside don't forget to go down the side of the building to visit the Market Vaults. A quirky vibrant selection of both collectable, gift and handmade shops fill this underground lair. Well worth a visit. There is a cafe on all 3 levels (loos up the top 20p)
Having arrived in Scarborough at the rail station and walked down a main shopping street towards the sea, we were disappointed with many closed and vacant shop units, small cafes and charity shops, similar to many northern towns (get at it levelling up man Gove!). However near the end of the street just off the main drag we saw The Market Hall, quite an old building easily 100 years plus, which had been refurbished 6 years ago. Inside was a delight with a butcher, a fishmonger and fruit and vegetable stalls. There were also two cafes with savoury dishes and cakes at reasonable prices. Upstairs a new balcony has been constructed around 3 sides housing nice craft shops and another cafe, together with a lift to the ground level. Beneath the hall are the vaults, a former bonded warehouse with all manner of quirky stalls selling crafty items and second hand goods. Well worth a visit!
We've been here for food over the last three days. Cake and coffee first day, then breakfast the next and finally tried lunch... delicious every time. We ate at the deli delicious cafe, it was a little cold but were grateful that our dog was allowed in too.
I visit the market every year but never knew the vaults existed until today, I'd recomend them over the market so much more, there was a great second hand bookstore with a friendly and chatty owner, a really cute little hippie/fairy shop that sold really cute mushroom/fairy models and funky earrings a very intresting teddy/jewelry shop that sold the most fun and unique necklaces Ive ever seen and lots more!
Day out in scarborough and found the market never been before ! It's excellent upstairs and the vaults bought some handmade silver/copper jewellery what a spot on market I wish my town had one
Interesting and fascinating little local shops. Great atmosphere. Locals chatting. Unique gifts. Lots of variety and bargains to be had.
