Quick Facts About Markfield Park

Markfield Park has several strengths that make it a popular destination for people in the area. Firstly, it is described as a "lovely space" and is considered a "kleinod" in Tottenham. This suggests that it is a hidden gem or a pleasant surprise in the area. It offers a playground for both children and adults, making it a versatile space for people of all ages. The park also has a big field for exercise, which is ideal for activities like running, playing sports, or even having a picnic.
One of the standout features of Markfield Park is the presence of planted roses in different colors. This adds a burst of color and beauty to the park, making it visually appealing and attractive to visitors. Additionally, the park includes a coffee shop and a skating board ground with fantastic graffiti works. This provides additional amenities for park-goers, giving them options for refreshments and entertainment.
However, despite these strengths, there are also some weaknesses that could be addressed to improve the park. One of the main criticisms is that the park lacks diversity in terms of flora. Currently, there is very little diversity of wild flora in the park, with the only significant display of color being in the small rose garden. This could be improved by sowing a wildflower mix around the park verges, which would not only add more color but also attract more wildlife.
Another weakness mentioned is the management of the park. It is described as resembling a sports field, suggesting that there is limited attention given to the ecological and environmental aspects of the park. The Friends group, which is responsible for the park's management, is also criticized for being lackadaisical. This could indicate a lack of active involvement and dedication to improving the park's facilities and amenities.
The cafe in Markfield Park also receives mixed reviews. While one comment describes it as "nice," others mention that it is quite expensive for the area and that the customer service is strained and lacks warmth. These criticisms suggest that there is room for improvement in terms of pricing and customer service in the cafe.
On the positive side, there are comments that highlight the park's suitability for different activities and events. For example, one person mentions attending a bonfire night and having a lovely time with their family. They enjoyed the spacious and clean adventure playground and the well-maintained bonfire. This suggests that the park is capable of hosting events and providing enjoyable experiences for visitors.
Lastly, there are mentions of the park being a good place for walking dogs and having a big play area for kids. This highlights the park's accessibility and suitability for different groups of people, such as families with children and dog owners. In the summer, it is described as being popular for picnics, further emphasizing its value as a recreational space.
In conclusion, Markfield Park has several strengths that make it an appealing destination for people in the area. These include its lovely space, playground for both children and adults, big field for exercise, presence of planted roses, coffee shop, and skating board ground with fantastic graffiti works. However, there are also weaknesses that should be addressed, such as the lack of diversity in flora, lackadaisical management, and issues with the cafe's pricing and customer service. Overall, with some improvements, Markfield Park has the potential to become an even more popular and enjoyable space for the community.

A coffee shop and a skating board ground with a lot of fantastic graffiti works.
GREEN SPACE
So much more could be done to this park. It’s bland. So much space could afford to have dedicated wildflower beds. Apart from the trees, there is huge scope to encourage wildlife. Park management resembles a sports field. Additionally, diversity of flora would be more attractive to visitors. The Friends group is lackadaisical. There is very little diversity of wild flora in the park and the only colour to be seen, is in the small rose garden, (offset to one far side of the park). Why not sow a wildflower mix, with ornamental grass seed, for example, around the park verges? Mixing in Yellow Rattle, (a semi parasitic plant), would combat against the growth of Perennial Rye Grass, and ensure more flowers grow up and less ‘standard’ grass, (which smothers everything). This would ensure more light reaching flowers.
So much space in this park has been ignored for wildlife. It’s as if the importance of wildlife here is very low. There is huge room for improvement. Making this one small change to the perimeter verges, would encourage more diversity of species. I would be interested to know Markfield Park’s Management Plan.
THE CAFE
It’s quite expensive for the area and customer service is strained and lacks warmth.
Cafe used to be nice, but seems to have changed hands. Staff clueless. Park still good for a walk to get your step count up.
Went to their bonfire night and we had a lovely time. The adventure playground was spacious and clean and they had a well maintained bonfire with marshmallows to roast. My daughter and her friend had a lovely time, we will definitely go again to enjoy the space.

For kids, there is a nice playing area and if you are a health conscious person; there is a small open gym aswell. The lawn in the park is the best option for playing and jogging. I like this park ????????????????
