Quick Facts About Schuyler Inn
The Schuyler Inn Place, based on the comments provided, has numerous weaknesses that significantly impact its effectiveness and overall reputation. Firstly, employees claim that there is a lack of structure and the people in charge do not show any concern for the welfare of the residents. This lack of organization and care is worrisome, as it indicates that the shelter is not fulfilling its role in providing a safe and supportive environment for individuals experiencing homelessness.
Another concerning weakness is the alleged prevalence of drugs and alcohol within the shelter, despite the expectation that the program refrains from these substances. This suggests a failure in implementing and enforcing the rules and guidelines that should be in place to maintain a clean and drug-free environment. Furthermore, comments suggest that people who are not supposed to stay at the shelter are allowed to do so, indicating a lack of accountability and screening procedures.
The disrespectful behavior and unprofessionalism displayed by the staff towards residents is another significant weakness. The comments detail instances where staff members talk down to residents and show a lack of respect for their dignity. This type of behavior is not conducive to fostering a positive and supportive environment that encourages residents to work towards improving their situation.
Maintenance and cleanliness issues are also prevalent within the shelter. Complaints about the lack of essential items such as toilet paper and garbage bags highlight the shelter's inability to fulfill basic needs. The dysfunctional toilets, odd water system, and presence of ants and mice suggest a lack of proper upkeep and maintenance, which raises concerns about the overall safety and hygiene of the facility.
Communication breakdowns within the staff are cited as a significant issue. This lack of communication leads to confusion and frustration for the residents, as staff members provide conflicting information and fail to coordinate effectively. This lack of coordination can impact essential services such as food delivery, making it difficult for residents to access the nutrition they need.
Financial concerns are also raised in the comments, with multiple individuals criticizing the shelter for taking 90% of their income. This significant deduction is seen as unfair, especially when considering the lack of basic amenities and poor living conditions that residents experience.
However, it is worth noting that there are a few strengths mentioned in the comments. One individual mentioned that the shelter provides constant heat, which is commendable, as warmth is essential for individuals experiencing homelessness, particularly during colder months. Additionally, some individuals acknowledge that the staff tries to help residents secure permanent housing, which demonstrates a positive intention and a desire to support their residents' long-term well-being.
In conclusion, the Schuyler Inn Place has several weaknesses that significantly impact its ability to provide a safe, supportive, and dignified environment for individuals experiencing homelessness. These weaknesses include a lack of structure and care from those in charge, a prevalence of drugs and alcohol within the shelter, disrespectful staff behavior, maintenance and cleanliness issues, breakdowns in communication, and financial concerns. While there are a few strengths mentioned, they are outweighed by the numerous weaknesses outlined in the comments. Overall, significant improvements are needed to ensure the Schuyler Inn Place effectively supports and assists individuals experiencing homelessness.

So I was an employee at the shelter. There is no structure and the people in charge do not care. I thought the program refrained from drugs and alcohol but if u go there at the right time all u see is people at the shelter doing both. To add insult to injury they fired me and im the only one besides my fellow house keepers that tried to help. People stay at the shelter that are not suppose to. No rules are followed and staff talk down to u and are very disrespectful. Oh So the Father Young Program thinks they can fire me when I was disrespected by there supervisor Mrs. Shama and they think they not gonna pay me my last check too oh its ON THEY DONT KNOW HOW KNOWLEDGEABLE I AM BUT THEY WILL
They are taking 90% of our income to be in a HOMELESS shelter. Someone somewhere tell me where that is actually LEGAL. Probably can’t so my next question is who do we talk to to fight this because this is NOT right!
How are you going to run a homeless shelter and never have toilet paper, or garbage bags???? What's the number to the health department??? ????????
Got hooked up with this place through DSS - the only nice thing about this place is the constant heat.
There's no soap in the showers, the toilet is dysfunctional, and the water system is quite odd. I was convinced this place was haunted when I first got here because every time I used the toilet I heard this really loud screeching - I wish I was lying.
But more than anything, the lack of communication in between the staff is so immense it's laughable. Every single staff member I phoned with sounds miserable enough that they'd be better off not working there in the first place. Multiple times I had to call and request food be sent to my room since I've needed somewhere to quarantine. One minute I'm told I need to get the food myself, the next I'm told I need to stay in my room but I'm "not on the resident list", despite me being here for almost two weeks and having made it very clear that I'm not able to leave. That being said the scheduled dinner times are barely followed and the staff here struggle to keep up with delivering food.
Edit : Forgot to mention on that front I was supposed to do a resident intake when I got here and the staff have made no effort to assure the happiness of the guests. It's a "good for you to get by and nothing more" type of place.
It’s honestly terrible, we felt so uncomfortable, you can’t lock your door when you leave so anyone can go in. The staff does room checks after curfew and they give you no privacy. I had to clean the room from top to bottom. The shower had ants in it and the toilet had urine in it. Mice were terrible. These mice do not care if your around they come out. I might’ve caught like 4-5 within the week we were there. No vacuum so you have to sweep your room floor. Food is alright on some days, but it is helpful if you can buy your own. Some residents were very unpredictable and loudddd. And others were very nice and kept to themselves. I don’t think anyone should have to live in these conditions, homeless or not. Oh! And they’re taking 90% of all your income, we were going to have to pay over a thousand a month, you can get a nice apartment for that much. So not worth it. I’d rather live in my car. Would not recommend.
Terrible. I posted 8 pictures of the condition of my room and only 1 picture was accepted. Well there is animal hair all throughout the room. The rooms are not clean at all. The sink is clogged and stained from vomit or food that is still here when my daughter and I walked through the room. No bed sheets, just too much is wrong whoever this paster is that is in charge of this place has done a terrible job. I was here 10yrs ago and the place went downhill. Let's me know that the money that the state pays for this place doesn't go to this place. It takes the pastor on vacation and keeps his bills paid. In the end the shelter will be shut down for not being taking care of and the pastor will just continue to live his life. He may just buy another building to have as a shelter GOD knows he has the money to do it.
The place is very old ran down and in real bad need of renovation.not enough staff to how many rooms there are the place also has a bad pest problem. The hotel is used as a shelter for homeless women and children. And I think because of that they really let the place go
The food is terrible, they feed us as if we were children. The cooks are unhygienic. And they have very bad attitudes towards the people that are just trying to get back on their feet. If they don't like their jobs they should do something else. Once I received rotten food, that smelled so bad a raccoon wouldn't eat it. They almost poisoned my family. Other than that the workers here really do try to help you get a place for your family.
