Quick Facts About Scoffs

Scoffs Place is a fish and chip restaurant that has received a mix of positive and negative comments. To evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the restaurant, let's analyze the comments provided.
Starting with the positive comments, one reviewer mentions that Scoffs Place offers a unique take on classic fish and chips and claims it is possibly the best they have ever had. This indicates that the restaurant has a strong reputation for its food and could be a standout in terms of taste and quality. Additionally, the comment highlights the quick service, which suggests that Scoffs Place values efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Another positive comment praises Scoffs Place as something worth trying if you're in the area. This implies that the restaurant has a good reputation among locals and visitors, further solidifying its status as an establishment that offers enjoyable food.
However, there are several negative comments that indicate some weaknesses in Scoffs Place. One reviewer suggests that the staff at the restaurant can be rude and not welcoming to customers. This could be a significant disadvantage as customer service plays a vital role in creating a positive dining experience. Rude staff can leave a lasting negative impression on customers and deter them from returning or recommending the restaurant to others.
Another negative comment highlights the issue of portion size and value for money. The reviewer claims to have paid a relatively high price for a meal that was smaller in portion compared to other establishments. This suggests that Scoffs Place may not offer good value for customers' money and may need to reconsider their pricing strategy or portion sizes to meet customer expectations.
Additionally, a reviewer compares Scoffs Place unfavorably to a competitor, Wetherspoons. They claim that Wetherspoons provides a larger portion of food, with free sauce and a friendly, professional service at a lower price point. This comment emphasizes the importance of competition and how Scoffs Place may struggle to attract customers if they cannot match the offerings of their competitors.
Another criticism mentioned in a negative comment is the poor service and quality of food. The reviewer states that the service was bad, the food was cold, and they had no intention of returning due to the appalling attitude of the staff. This comment highlights a significant weakness in Scoffs Place's service quality and staff training, which can have a direct impact on customer satisfaction and repeat business.
Lastly, a negative comment discusses the disappointment in the taste and quality of the food. The reviewer claims that their large cod and haddock did not meet their expectations and were not worth the price they paid. This suggests that Scoffs Place may struggle with consistency in their food quality, which is a crucial aspect for a restaurant that relies on its reputation for great-tasting fish and chips.
In conclusion, Scoffs Place has strengths in terms of offering unique and delicious fish and chips and quick service. However, there are weaknesses in their customer service, portion sizes, value for money, and food quality. These weaknesses, especially the reported rudeness of the staff and dissatisfaction with portion size and food quality, could negatively impact the restaurant's reputation and customer base. Scoffs Place should address these weaknesses by focusing on improving customer service, reevaluating their pricing and portion sizes, and ensuring consistent quality in their food to maintain and attract customers in the competitive market.

Best TL Reviews

Very Unique take on the classic Fish and chips, quite possibly the best one I've had. tastes great and service was surprisingly quick too
If you're in the area. It's something worth trying
Friendlier to their regular locals than others. Many comments in recent reviews of how rude they can be - witnessed this myself. Give the impression that you’re bothering them instead of being happy for your custom. I understand all retailers in any business have had to increase their prices, but I still expect value for money. I paid £10 for chicken, stuffing and chips (19 of them to be precise) with a can of drink. Sauces are sold separately. The portion size would have been appropriate for a child. For 5 pence less, in Wetherspoons, I can get half a chicken, a pile of chips (which would be too many for me to even bother to count) with as much sauce as I care to take (for free) and any soft drink, in a glass - all this in comfortable surroundings with a professional and friendly service. I try to support local independent businesses as much as I can, but this place really need to try harder. They may have got away with being rude and giving a poor service in the past, but in today’s world with internet reviews and social media, there’s less chance of tourists visiting somewhere with a bad reputation - especially in a small seaside town with sadly, a growing trend of empty spaces where shops used to be.
If you visit Paignton you need to try the food here. The best fish & chips by far!
We were greeted whilst walking past and offered a chip to try which lead us to eat in.
The fish was delicious and not too greasy, the chips are amazing & the curry sauce was spot on. It was very busy, but that's expected with such delicious food. If we visit Paignton again we will definitely be eating here again.

Arrived at 18.04, said they closed at 1900 on Google maps.. was told we can only have one sausage and chips. So we took that.. no curry sauce and when I asked for any sauce at all eg ketchup the women huffed and said you can have ketchup and that’s it!! She charged me £0.70 per ketchup even though was advertised at £0.40!! We then got my card out to pay and she said cash only or you ain’t having it, we payed cash and she walked out saying I ain’t taking any more of this shittt in a mood
Very bad service
Food was cold
And will NOT be returning again solely due to the women on the till and her appalling attitude
I ordered large cod and chips, my sister ordered haddock and chips. There was nothing large about the cod, and it didnt even taste of code. My sisters haddock was tasteless and smelt of chlorine. Chips were awful and very few. Staff were picking their ears behind the counter. £11 for large cod and chips, and £8.50 in a chippy in Torquay harbour for large cod and chips, and better chips anf a bigger portion. Avoid Scoffs!!
We usually come to Scoffs when we come to Devon. We came in staff greeted us in the way in and out,sat down straight away and got are cutlery given to us.Ordered 4 cans, nice and cold.We also got 3 chicken roast and one chicken chucks and chips, very nice!!Scoffs is clean as usual which is expected in most restaurants.I would definitely recommend Scoffs and I will definitely come back next time I visit Paignton!!
Always nice to pop into Scoffs when we come up to Paignton.
The Yorkshire chips are super fresh and crispy , the cod was fresh and the pulled pork roll was very tasty.
Highly recommended.
