Quick Facts About The Black Horse Monkseaton

The Black Horse in Monkseaton Place seems to have a mix of positive and negative feedback. Let's analyze the strengths and weaknesses based on the comments provided.
First, let's focus on the strengths:
1. Welcoming and friendly staff: Multiple comments highlight the excellent service provided by the bar staff. Being greeted warmly and feeling welcomed can greatly enhance the overall experience of visiting a bar.
2. Cleanliness: The pub is described as spotless clean. Maintaining a clean environment demonstrates a dedication to hygiene and can contribute to a positive atmosphere.
3. Well-priced drinks: Customers appreciate the reasonable prices of the drinks. This factor can attract patrons on a budget and enhance the value proposition of the establishment.
4. Good selection of beers: The Black Horse offers a range of standard and premium beers, including a recommendation for Staropramen. Having a diverse selection of beverages can cater to a variety of tastes and preferences.
5. Comfortable seating: Customers mention comfortable seating, which adds to the overall appeal and comfort of the pub.
6. Sports viewing: The pub is considered a good place to watch sports. Offering this amenity can attract sports enthusiasts and create a lively atmosphere during games and matches.
7. Refurbishment: The recent refurbishment is praised, suggesting that the physical appearance of the pub has been improved. This can enhance the ambiance and attract potential customers.
8. Improved management: One comment notes that a recent change of management has resulted in a much improved pub. This suggests that efforts have been made to address previous weaknesses and enhance the overall experience.
Now, let's examine the weaknesses:
1. Bar staff on phones: A customer highlights the issue of bar staff being on their phones instead of serving waiting customers. This behavior can negatively impact the customer experience and create a perception of poor service.
2. Weak management: Another customer criticizes the manager, describing them as weak. This comment implies a lack of effective leadership and potentially poor staff training.
3. Disengaged and poorly trained staff: The same comment suggests that both management and staff are disengaged and poorly trained. A lack of engagement and training can result in subpar service and a negative customer experience.
4. Lack of real ales: One customer mentions that the pub was out of real ales. While this may be a temporary issue, it can disappoint customers who specifically seek out real ales.
Based on these comments, The Black Horse Monkseaton Place has several strengths that contribute to a positive customer experience, including welcoming staff, cleanliness, reasonable prices, a good beer selection, comfortable seating, sports viewing, and recent refurbishment. However, weaknesses in terms of staff being on their phones, weak management, disengaged and poorly trained staff, and occasional lack of real ales can detract from the overall experience. Addressing these weaknesses by implementing stricter staff policies, providing better training and leadership, and ensuring a consistent supply of real ales could further improve the pub's reputation and customer satisfaction.

Visited this bar yesterday first time for quite a while. The barman was very welcoming and friendly. The pub was spotless clean and the drinks are very well priced. We will definitely be returning.
Despite the substantial investment from craft union / stone gate : the bar staff need to PUT THEIR PHONES AWAY - and serve the customers stood waiting at the bar. 20th March Evening. Manager weak as water and young lad behind the bar needs to look like he’s at work not plugged into his phone. Sat on his backside on the back bar!!! You’re here to serve for the benefit of your customers not to do what’s best and easiest for you. Won’t be back to yet another generic managed house with poor disengaged poorly trained management and staff. I wonder if the people above you realise what waste of money they’re investment has been.
A nice busy pub with happy staff that serves a decent pint will definitely be going back. They have a good selection of standard and premium beers I recommend a pint of staropramen
Very friendly Staff comfortable seating and fair priced drinks. Good for watching sports.
Only went in for one pint after a loooong time since last one. Felt good. Stella £3.50 (17/10/22) so good price.
Looks great after the refurbishment. Good value for money and staff very helpful.
Very nice ambience. The two Girls serving where very welcoming, helpful and friendly. Definitely an asset to the owners. We ordered their Sunday Lunches and can say that it was first class, top notch in presentation, quality and superb value for money.I can highly recommend it for a visit, we will certainly be back. I would have given 5/5 if they had some Real Ales on but I believe they had sold out. Not to worry, hopefully better luck, next time.
Recent change of management has resulted in a much improved pub. Well done!
