Quick Facts About The Cocked Hat
The Cocked Hat place, as described by the comments, has both strengths and weaknesses that can be analyzed. The strengths of the pub are its location, good quality homemade food, friendly hosts, and a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. On the other hand, the weaknesses include limited selection of real ale, lack of turnover affecting the pub's sustainability, the need for investment, decline in cleanliness since change in ownership, and obnoxious bar staff.
Starting with the strengths, the location of the pub on the edge of the historic market place is praised as superb. This suggests that the pub benefits from being in a popular and convenient area, attracting potential customers. Additionally, the food is highly praised as "absolutely amazing" and "cooked to order." The mention of a proper pub atmosphere indicates that the pub successfully maintains an authentic ambiance, which is appreciated by visitors. The Sunday roast is recommended, which further emphasizes the quality of the food. The friendly hosts, Mark, Wayne, and Bev, are specifically mentioned as making guests feel extremely welcome. This reflects positively on the customer service provided at the pub.
Moving onto the weaknesses, one comment suggests that the pub has had some ups and downs in the past. Specifically, it mentions that the pub used to have a diverse selection of real ale but had limited turnover to sustain it. This implies that the pub struggled to maintain a variety of real ales, which may be seen as a weakness for beer enthusiasts. It is also mentioned that the current selection is limited to one pale ale, which may not cater to all tastes. Another comment points out that the pub was very quiet on a cold Wednesday lunch in February. This suggests that the pub may struggle with attracting customers during off-peak times, potentially affecting its overall profitability.
Furthermore, it is mentioned that the pub needs a bit of investment. Although not specified in detail, this implies that the pub may require improvements or updates to enhance its overall quality. Another weakness mentioned is the decline in cleanliness since the change in ownership. This suggests that the current management may not prioritize cleanliness as much as the previous management, impacting the overall experience for customers.
The lowest rating of 2 out of 10 is given due to the high price of drinks and the poor quality of the beer. This highlights a discrepancy between the quality of beverages and their price, which can discourage potential customers from revisiting the pub.
Lastly, there is a negative comment about obnoxious bar staff. The behavior of the old woman behind the bar is criticized for speaking to a customer disrespectfully. This indicates poor customer service, which can deter potential visitors and harm the pub's reputation.
In conclusion, The Cocked Hat place has various strengths such as its location, good quality homemade food, friendly hosts, and a cozy atmosphere. However, it also possesses weaknesses including limited real ale selection, lack of turnover affecting sustainability, the need for investment, decline in cleanliness, high prices for subpar drinks, and obnoxious bar staff. Overall, these strengths and weaknesses contribute to the overall experience and perception of The Cocked Hat place as a pub.

Ric says this pub has had a few ups and downs. Used to have a big real ale selection but not enough turnover to keep it going. Only Ossett White Rat 4% Pale Ale today which was fine. Jorvic not so keen on his Madri. Only OK. Very quiet on a cold Wednesday lunch in Feb. Good location on the edge of the market place. Needs a bit of investment.
Superb pub in the historic market place. Called in yesterday after shopping (not for the first time)!! Made to feel extremely welcome, as always by the fab hosts, Mark, Wayne and Bev. Food absolutely amazing and cooked to order. I highly recommend this pub to any body wanting good quality home cooked food with a proper pub atmosphere. Sunday roast also highly recommended. 11 out of 10. Well done guys and thanks
What an absolutely lovely place. Not only was the actual pub lovely, cosy and welcoming, but the managers were absolutely lovely too. Made my friend a proper cuppa and brought my phone out to me too when I left it behind. I don't go out in Stockport much, but my friend and I will definitely be coming back.
Wonderful old fashioned hospitality, gorgeous food and football on the telly, what more could you ask for ? Hosts (and Mum!) really, really friendly and welcoming...we will be back :)
Lovely little pub / Inn. Only in this establishment for a shirt while but felt Very welcome.
Staff are Very Friendly as we're the regulars.
Not the Biggest of pubs but a good size.
Since it has changed hands it is not as clean and the beer is not as good i had a pint of John smiths and a glass of orange juice the price was over the top considering the beer was not up to par the price £6.60 we will not be going back in 2 out of 10
Obnoxious bar staff, had to return a flat pint to the old woman behind the bar and got spoken to like I was dirt, she argued that it wasn’t flat and she knew because she’s “worked in pubs for 50 years”. So she really should have learnt some manners by now shouldn’t she.
Absolutely fantastic pub great people great bar staff we love it every time we go in love it there
