Quick Facts About The Cod House. Irchester Rd. Fish and Chip shop
The Cod House Fish and Chip Shop, located on Irchester Rd, has received mostly positive reviews from customers. The strengths of the establishment include the quality and taste of the food, friendly service, cleanliness, reasonable prices, generous portions, and adherence to COVID-19 guidelines. However, there are also a few weaknesses mentioned such as soggy chips, rank curry sauce, and the lack of card payment options.
One of the major strengths of The Cod House is the quality and taste of the fish and chips. Customers describe the fish as being cooked fresh and having a thin and crispy batter. Unlike other places, the batter does not overpower the taste of the fish. This attention to detail and focus on flavor separates The Cod House from other fish and chip shops.
Additionally, customers appreciate that the chips are cooked to perfection. They are described as being soft and fluffy, and on some days, they are crispy and amazing. The portions of both fish and chips are also considered generous, making the meal a good value for the price. Customers note that even the small portion of chips is substantial.
Another strength of The Cod House is the friendly service and welcoming atmosphere. Customers mention that the staff is delightful, always greeting customers with a smile. The fact that they ask if customers want anything cooked to order, such as fish or spam fritters, shows their dedication to providing fresh food. The store's adherence to COVID-19 guidelines is also appreciated, as it demonstrates their understanding and concern for the well-being of their customers.
The cleanliness of The Cod House is also highlighted as a positive aspect. The shop is described as being brightly lit and spotless, creating a pleasant dining environment.
Furthermore, the reasonable prices at The Cod House are mentioned as a strength. Customers note that even though fish is generally pricey, it is well worth it at this establishment. The affordability of the meals, such as paying around £3.50 for chips and a sausage or £5 for chips and fish, adds to the overall positive experience.
On the other hand, a few weaknesses of The Cod House have been pointed out. One customer mentions having experienced soggy chips, which may not have met their expectations. Another customer expresses disappointment with the quality of the curry sauce, describing it as rank.
Additionally, a customer advises others to come prepared with cash, as The Cod House only accepts cash payments and does not offer card payment options. While this may not be a major issue for many customers, it could be considered a downside for those who prefer using card payments.
Overall, the strengths of The Cod House Fish and Chip Shop outweigh its weaknesses. The positive reviews highlight the quality and taste of the food, friendly service, cleanliness, reasonable prices, generous portions, and adherence to COVID-19 guidelines. While there are a few drawbacks mentioned, such as soggy chips, rank curry sauce, and lack of card payment options, they do not overshadow the overall positive dining experience at The Cod House.

This has just got to be the best place for Fish and Chips. I have visited twice and both times have had a piece of fish cooked fresh for me (Haddock & Plaice) the batter is thin and crispy and you can actually taste the fish as it's not being overwhelmed by loads of batter like the majority of places. The chips are lovely and just the right amount. Will I be going again......most definitely
Soggy chips fish and rank curry sauce won’t be going there again
The Cod House Fish and Chip Shop:
Good fish and chip shop, excellent food and great service. Good always fresh and good sized portions of both fish and chips.
Customers are nice and don’t overcrowd you when waiting.
A small, fish and chip shop tucked away in a side street. Run by some very friendly Chinese people.
The shop is brightly lit and spotlessly clean.
The prices are quite reasonable, the food is nicely cooked and the portions are generous.
As someone unfamiliar with the area, it was pot-luck as to which chippie I chose, but I wasn't disappointed when I chose this one.
One of the best chipshops in Rushden, even northamptonshire.
Every time I've gone here (once every two weeks on a Friday), I've had only good food and smiles when walking in.
The staff are delightful and always welcome you with a smile. They'll ask if you want anything cooked such as fish or spam fritter (as they're cooked for order so they're very fresh).
The chips are soft and fluffy and some days they're crispy and amazing! The portions are massive, even if you go for the small portion.
The fish is crispy and soft and you get a large piece of cod, albeit a bit pricey (fish always is!) It's well worth it.
The store is following social distancing and Corona virus guidelines, which is a good sign for an understanding and caring establishment.
Overall, you're looking at around £3.50 for chips and a sausage or £5 for chips and fish.
5/5
The best Haddock & Chips I've ever had, we have tried the cod, sausages plain & battered, fishcakes, mushy peas, & the scampi, all are really good. Still nice & hot when taken back to Irchester, it is cash only, recommended this fish & chip shop to anybody, for somebody who loves fish, as i do, absolutely cooked to perfection. You can phone & order in advance as well. Best Saturday lunch we've had in a long time.
Tried a few fish and chip shops in Rushden, this one is definately the best. Make sure you take cash though as you can't pay by card
Sooo lucky to have this place as my local chippy. Never been disappointed. Batter is thin and crispy, chips always cooked through and soft. And the pickled eggs are very fresh!
