Quick Facts About The Foxy Bean at Adscombe

The Foxy Bean at Adscombe Place has received mostly positive reviews, highlighting its strengths in various aspects. However, there are a few criticisms that need to be addressed as well. The strengths and weaknesses of The Foxy Bean can be summarized as follows:
Strengths:
1. Brilliant Quantocks pitstop: Many reviewers have praised The Foxy Bean as being a fantastic pitstop while visiting the Quantock Hills. This suggests that the location and atmosphere of the cafe are appealing to visitors in the area.
2. Outstanding cakes: Multiple reviews mention that the cakes at The Foxy Bean are incredible. This could be a major strength for the cafe, as good quality and delicious cakes can attract customers and keep them coming back for more.
3. Lovely staff: A consistent theme in the comments is the positive attitude and friendliness of the staff. This is a significant strength as it creates a welcoming and enjoyable experience for customers.
4. Log burner for drying wet mountain bike jackets: One specific feature that sets The Foxy Bean apart is the presence of a log burner, which can be used to dry out wet mountain bike jackets. This is likely appreciated by outdoor enthusiasts and can be a unique selling point for the cafe.
5. Dog friendly: The fact that The Foxy Bean is dog friendly is mentioned positively in one of the comments. This can bring in pet owners who want to enjoy a meal or snack without leaving their dogs behind.
6. Outdoor seating with cover: Several reviewers mention that the tables at The Foxy Bean are situated either within a barn or outside by the river, and they are all covered. This is beneficial as it provides shelter and allows customers to enjoy their visit even in poor weather conditions.
Weaknesses:
1. Inconsistency in hot drink quality: One review mentions that the hot chocolates served were barely lukewarm and had to be reheated. This inconsistency in drink quality can be seen as a weakness, as it can lead to dissatisfaction among customers.
2. Small cup sizes: Another reviewer comments that the cup sizes for hot drinks are very small, comparing them to "child baby chino cups." This can be seen as a weakness as customers may expect larger portions, especially for the price paid.
3. Use of disposable packaging: A criticism mentioned in one of the comments is the use of card boxes and wooden cutlery instead of proper plates and cutlery. This can be perceived as a weakness by customers who prefer more environmentally friendly and traditional dining experiences.
4. Inconsistent food quality: One customer expressed disappointment with the food, specifically mentioning that the bacon muffin seemed microwaved and the coffee was average. This inconsistency in food quality may impact the overall dining experience for customers.
In conclusion, The Foxy Bean at Adscombe Place has several strengths that include being a great pitstop in the Quantock Hills, outstanding cakes, lovely staff, a log burner for drying wet mountain bike jackets, and being dog friendly. However, there are also some weaknesses that could be addressed, such as inconsistency in hot drink and food quality, small cup sizes, and the use of disposable packaging. By addressing these weaknesses, The Foxy Bean can further enhance its strengths and provide an even better experience for its customers.

Best TL Reviews

A brilliant Quantocks pitstop. Cakes are outstanding, staff are lovely and beat of all a log burner to dry out wet mountain bike jackets.
One of the most wonderful places to visit, must go see and check out this beautiful spot. Second time visiting from Bristol and what a lovely drive. Coffee is amazing! Cakes are so delicious and the staff are so lovely. We even ordered scones to collect through their Facebook page and was ever so easy with great communication. One of the best scones I've had, they are a must try. Great menu with a lovely seating area and atmosphere. You could spend the afternoon here with friends or family. Denzel my chihuahua loves visiting to :) thanks guys, look forward to seeing you again soon.
Absolutely incredible cakes! Lovely place to stop for a hot drink and something sweet after/during a walk. Tables are all undercover so even if the weather is bad it's worth stopping off. Dog friendly, perfect for walkers.
Little gem of a cafe in the Quantock hills, plenty of character with tables situated either within the barn or outside by the river, the food was simple but good (I had a bacon muffin and my husband had the frittata) the cake however was on another level and was HUGEEEE! ????(we had the bannoffee cake) one slice was enough for 2 of us for 2 days!
My only criticism would be that everything is served in card boxes with wooden cutlery, I do rather like a proper plate and cutlery!
Stopped off before we walked our dog and ordered 3 hot chocolates which came out barely luke warm. Requested for them to be heated up and the remade but this time they were warm, but not hot still!.Total waste of £9.00 and also there cup sizes are very small like a child baby chino cup. They were made with a liquid hot syrup which had left a unsettled heartburn and sickly feeling, overall experience not good on this visit. Stick to cake and fruit smoothies there better value for money.
Unimpressed by the food and coffee, today. However, great venue, log burner, rustic setting.
Ordered a bacon muffin and flat white. Muffin, I think had been microwaved. The lid was like a hobnail. Bacon ok but should have been better. Not leathery as it was.
Coffee ok, but wouldn’t order again.
Two stars.
Went on my work break on a Wednesday and got one of everything on the savoury menu- nice staff, brilliant sausage roll with salsa dip, proper vegan soup and decent cake. Definitely going whenever I get the excuse!
What a find. It's a bit out of the way but truly worth that little bit of effort to find it. It's part of a working farm and place beside a babbling Brook. It was a dull drizzly day but it still looked fabulous as you approached. The coffee was superb and the selection of cakes and food is excellent. When you enter, you are greated with a walm and friendly welcome. If you are in this area, make the effort, you will not regret it.
