An absolutely lovely village pub. Good food, clean, comfortable rooms and friendly, helpful staff, though they were a bit thin on the ground the first night I was there. The building dates back to the 1500s as you can tell from the low doorframes and uneven floors upstairs. The room I stayed in was clean and well decorated with a very comfortable bed and an ensuite bathroom with a nicely fitted shower cubicle and switchless, movement sensitive lighting, all very nice indeed!
The pub is only a couple of minutes drive from Stourhead and not far from Longleat, all in all an excellent location for exploring the West Country. I greatly enjoyed my stay and hope to visit again the next time I spend a few days out west.
Popped in off the A303 for lunch on our way back from Devon. Lovely food. Lots of specials to choose from. Local trout was delicious. Big log fire. Wished we had more time to explore Mere.
The young chef did really well..he should teach the old lady front of house some manners. She was just rude ..not fit for purpose. Lacked atmosphere..limited beers on offer. The chef will move on and do well for himself elsewhere.
A cozy and beautiful place. Old yet clean. Excellent service and friendly staff. I recommend that you stay here for one night if you happen to spend a day in Mere.
Intoxicating mixture of what makes a good inn great. Nothing too much for the hosts, genuinely pleased to welcome you with a roaring fire and fine food and drink. Yet nothing stuffy. Good, honest and great value.
We had a group booking at The George Inn and it was incredible. Service we could not fault but the food was outstanding. Huge credit to the staff!! They deserve more than 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The George inn changed management recently. The new owner's wife is Ukrainian and has very poor manners, we went in for a coffee and ended up unsolicited advise and opinions.
