Quick Facts About The Old Cottage
The Old Cottage place, based on the comments provided, has both strengths and weaknesses.
Starting with the strengths, the restaurant received positive feedback regarding the taste and quality of their food. Comments such as "Lovely Indian restaurant, tasty food" and "The food itself was incredible" highlight the enjoyable dining experience that some customers had. The menu options, such as Makhani Chicken, garlic naan, and Bombay potato, received praise for being exceptional and prepared to perfection. The authenticity of the Indian food was also commended, with one customer mentioning that it was the most authentic in Chichester. The flavors and balance of spices were appreciated as well.
Another strength of The Old Cottage place is the service provided by the staff. Positive comments regarding the friendly and welcoming nature of the staff were mentioned multiple times. Customers appreciated the attentive service, with their food and drinks arriving quickly and the staff ensuring timely service throughout their meals. The accommodating and polite behavior of the staff was also highlighted as a positive aspect of the restaurant.
The decor and ambiance of the restaurant were also highlighted as strengths. Customers mentioned that the interior was well-decorated and created a comfortable atmosphere. The relaxed and buzzing ambience added to the positive dining experience for some customers.
Moving on to the weaknesses, one common complaint was the long waiting time, even after making a reservation. One customer mentioned waiting for over an hour despite calling ahead to book for seven people. This suggests a potential issue with managing reservations and efficiently accommodating large parties. Another related issue was customers being split between two tables, which could affect the overall dining experience and convenience for larger groups.
The takeaway service was seen as a negative aspect by some customers. One comment mentioned that the restaurant seemed to prioritize their takeaway service over the dine-in experience. This could potentially result in longer waiting times for dine-in customers or a diversion of attention from the dining area.
In terms of food quality, one customer expressed disappointment, stating that the food was bland and tasted like watered down cream. Another comment mentioned a dish being tasteless and the chicken being overcooked and dry. The higher prices for certain dishes, such as the additional charge for prawns, also received criticism from a customer.
There were also negative remarks about the takeaway service, with one customer referring to it as the worst they have ever had. The food was described as inedible, with overcooked chicken, watery sauce, and undercooked naan and rice. The customer's complaint was not addressed, and the staff's response was seen as rude and dismissive.
Overall, The Old Cottage place has strengths in terms of their tasty and authentic food, attentive service, and pleasant ambiance. However, there are weaknesses such as potential issues with long waiting times and split tables, as well as inconsistent food quality and disappointment with takeaway service. Addressing these weaknesses could help enhance the overall dining experience and customer satisfaction at the restaurant.

Food was delicious, but had a wait for over 1 hour despite calling ahead to book for 7 people. We we're also split between 2 tables. This restaurant is very busy with takeaway service (which seems to be their priority).
I’ve tried almost every Indian in Chichester, and this was by far the worst.
The food was as bland as it was expensive. The Makhani tasted like watered down cream, with no mango in sight.
I wouldn’t have minded so much, but they also charged me an additional £3 for prawns on an already expensive dish (£12 for the Makhani).
Lovely Indian restaurant, tasty food, reasonably priced, great decor inside, really comfortable. The service was first class, I'll be coming here again.
My wife and I went last night at around 6pm. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, and the ambience was really relaxed with a good buzz.
The food & drinks arrived quickly, with staff ensuring we were served in a timely manner. The food itself was incredible! We ordered the garlic naan, pliau rice, Bombay potato, Makhani Chicken & a lamb dish. All were exceptional, and prepared to perfection. The chicken was juicy and tender, the lamb similar.
All in all, an amazing restaurant. We're definitely going to return!
This was the most authentic Indian food in Chichester. The sag aloo was not like other restaurants, it was dryer and the taste was amazing. I asked for the main, as I have connections to India. And this was amazing. A little bit of bite, but the flavour from the herbs were very well balanced. Cannot remember the dish, think it was off the menu. Rice was just right.
I was very happy with the meal, staff were very accommodating and polite.
Yes I am returning in the New Year
Haven't been here for an age, but have to say I was so impressed. The food was first class and the service exceptional. I had the spicy nutty chicken, which had a nice kick to it and really well rounded flavour. I I'm a bit of a nut, so anything with nuts works. The rest of my friends were really pleased as well with their dishes. I asked if I could have some lime pickle and they brought it straight away. The staff are really friendly and welcoming. Will be going again soon, as should you!! : )
I absolutely love Indian food , but this was possibly the worst takeaway I have ever had. It was inedible ! The chicken was so over cooked that you could not even chew it. The sauce was like water and the nann and rice was soggy and very undercooked. The whole dish was completely tasteless. When I rang to tell the Indian I could not consume the food and aired my disappointment , the man who answered was rude and dismissive. He would not address my complaint nor be apologetic. He refused to replace the order. This is shocking service, I would not recommend them and will certainly not be ordering from them again !
Ordered tonight and food took over an hour to arrive.
Food arrived and was bland and had a watery greasy top even the chicken was dry & chewy.
A mircowave meal from Aldi/Iceland has been better quality.
Avoid at all cost and order from anywhere apart from here.
Worst curry ever!!
