Quick Facts About The Old Mail House
Strengths:
1. Traditional Pub Atmosphere: The Old Mail House is praised for its traditional pub ambiance, making it an attractive option for those seeking a classic pub experience.
2. Variety of Entertainment: The pub offers a mix of live bands, open decks, karaoke, and games like pool and darts. This diverse range of entertainment options ensures there is something for everyone.
3. Friendly and Welcoming: Multiple comments highlight the warm and friendly nature of the pub. The staff is commended for creating a welcoming environment, with specific mention of the bar staff being fabulous, particularly Toni.
4. Reasonable Prices: The pub is described as having reasonable prices, which is a significant advantage for customers looking for affordable drinks.
5. Spacious Venue: The Old Mail House is praised for having plenty of room, allowing patrons to maintain social distance. This is particularly important in the current climate, where people are conscious of personal space.
6. Table Service: The landlady is appreciated for ensuring swift table service, allowing customers to enjoy their drinks without interruptions or delays.
Weaknesses:
1. Not for Everyone: While the pub has its loyal fans, there is acknowledgment that it may not appeal to everyone. It is crucial for any establishment to strive to cater to a wide range of tastes and preferences.
2. Limited Appeal of Karaoke: Although the pub has enjoyable karaoke nights on Thursdays, one comment indicates that not everyone may be interested in this particular form of entertainment. This suggests that the pub's entertainment options may not always resonate with every customer.
3. Inconsistent Door Policy: One comment mentions an incident with the bouncers on the door, where they incorrectly perceived the customers as being drunk and potentially refused entry. This inconsistency and misjudgment by the bouncers could be a point of concern for potential customers who may fear similar misunderstandings.
4. Lack of Age Verification: The comment suggests that the bouncers did not ask for ID to verify the age of the customers. Failure to enforce age verification measures could potentially lead to underage customers gaining access to the premises and consuming alcohol illegally.
5. Limited Entertainment on Fridays: While the pub offers a free jukebox on Fridays, it may not be considered as exciting or engaging as live bands or other forms of entertainment. This may limit the appeal of the pub on Fridays for those looking for a livelier atmosphere.
6. Timing of the Comment: The comment about the incident with the bouncers does not provide enough context or details, making it difficult to assess the severity and implications accurately. However, if similar incidents occur frequently, it could negatively impact the reputation of the pub.
In conclusion, The Old Mail House has several strengths, including its traditional pub atmosphere, diverse entertainment options, friendly staff, reasonable prices, spacious venue, and efficient table service. However, it may not appeal to everyone, and there are a few weaknesses such as limited appeal of karaoke, inconsistent door policy, lack of age verification, and potentially less exciting entertainment on Fridays. The isolated comment about bouncers refusing entry without proper justification suggests a need for improved communication and customer service training for the security personnel.
