A cosy attractive pub, very popular with locals. The building is packed with genuine uncontrived old world charm. Outside there's plenty of seating to the front, side and rear, with several tiers, all equipped with timber tables and benches.
For the little ones there's a sweet Wendy house on the lowest level.
Occupying an elevated position, its garden is screened and sheltered by high hedges, but from the higher tiers it enjoys rooftop views over the main road to the railway line, so you can watch the trains roll in over the Victorian stone bridge. Particularly nice if you're a train-spotter!????
Friendly staff and customers and a good selection of drinks. Dog-friendly too. All in all, a lovely unpretentious traditional country pub.
My Son in law and I walked our dogs through the park and on the way home my Son in laws dog turned into the passage leading to the Shepherd Arms! An hour later after enjoying two excellent pints of beer, we walked the remaining distance home. The pub has a traditional layout, with stone floors, timber high backbench seating in the bar and good welcoming atmosphere. There is also covered and tiered open outdoor seating. Well worth a visit when staying in Whaley bridge.
