Quick Facts About The White Star

The White Star pub has several strengths based on the comments provided. Firstly, it has a friendly and traditional atmosphere, making it a pleasant place to enjoy a pint of cider. This indicates that the pub has maintained its old-world charm and offers a welcoming environment. The fact that traditional pubs still exist is seen as a strength, as it appeals to those who appreciate authenticity and a nostalgic ambiance.
Another strength is the affordable price of £4 for a pint of cider. This suggests that the pub offers reasonable prices, making it accessible to a wide range of customers. Additionally, the presence of Sarah, an engaging, warm, and friendly bartender, adds to the strengths of The White Star. Her ability to keep the whole bar in order, despite being on her own, showcases her excellent customer service skills and ability to create a lively atmosphere.
The recent makeover and change in ownership are also mentioned as strengths. This suggests that the pub has undergone renovations and improvements, potentially updating the interior or enhancing the overall experience for customers. The positive feedback regarding the beer and the new owners, Pete and Hayley, indicates that they are doing a great job and making patrons feel welcome. This implies that the quality of the drinks has improved and that the owners contribute to the positive atmosphere.
The wide selection of cask ales is seen as a strength, particularly the inclusion of Tim Taylor's Landlord, a favored beer that is consistently available. This demonstrates that the pub caters to the preferences of its customers and ensures the quality of its offerings. Additionally, the mention of a permanent fixture on the bar suggests that the pub values consistency and understands its customers' preferences.
On the other hand, The White Star has some weaknesses based on the comments. One criticism is the unreliable opening times. A customer mentions that the pub did not open at the advertised time, and locals reported that the opening times have been flexible for the past few weeks. This inconsistency can frustrate potential customers and give a negative impression of the pub. Reliability and adhering to advertised opening times are crucial for maintaining a good reputation and customer satisfaction.
Another weakness mentioned is the poor hygiene and unprofessional behavior of the bar manager. The customer states that the manager was seen picking their nose, watching a film on their mobile phone, and serving drinks in dirty glasses with stains and lipstick marks. This indicates a lack of cleanliness and professionalism, which can significantly impact the customer experience and may discourage potential visitors.
A customer also mentions being asked to leave because they fell asleep due to a medical condition. While this may be an isolated incident, it reflects a lack of understanding and accommodation for customers with medical conditions or special needs. This can create a negative perception of the pub and discourage others with similar conditions from visiting.
Despite these weaknesses, there are also positive comments regarding the pub. One customer mentions celebrating their wedding reception at The White Star and praises the free function room, the attentive staff, and a memorable experience. This demonstrates that the pub is capable of hosting special occasions and providing a high level of service, which can be considered a strength.
Lastly, the comment highlighting Simon's enthusiasm, new ideas, and commitment to maintaining the pub's core elements is seen as a strength. This suggests that the pub has a proactive and passionate individual in charge, contributing to its ongoing success and evolution. The mention of a DJ at the weekends also indicates that the pub offers entertainment, potentially attracting a larger crowd.
In conclusion, The White Star pub has several strengths, including its friendly atmosphere, traditional appeal, reasonable prices, engaging staff, wide selection of cask ales, recent makeover and change in ownership, and its ability to host special occasions. However, it also has weaknesses, such as unreliable opening times, poor hygiene and unprofessional behavior, and a lack of understanding for customers with medical conditions. The pub can leverage its strengths to enhance its reputation and address the weaknesses to improve the overall customer experience.

Best TL Reviews

Really enjoyed a pint of cider in friendly atmosphere in the White Star. Its nice to see traditional pubs still exist. Visited on a Tuesday afternoon and had a pint of cider only £4. Served by Sarah who was instantly engaging, warm and friendly. She really was great fun and despite being on her own kept the whole bar in order and it was great to chat with some other fabulous characters. Pity i'm going to miss the Elvis tribute this weekend.
This pub as just had a massive makeover and under new ownership. The beer is spot on and Pete and hayley are doing a great job and make us feel really welcome.
Massive selection of great cask ales (and keg if that's your thing). Tim Taylor's Landlord is my absolute fave and it seems to be a permanent fixture on the bar, and well kept. You should come over after signing the book of condolences for the Queen at Kings Hall.
I don't normally like 1 star reviews that are from people who haven't been there but when you advertise opening hours then stick to them. I walked just shy ofb2 miles to get there at 13:15 for a 12:00 advertised opening and nonsign of life. A couple of locals told us they opening times have been "flexible" for the last few weeks. Don't mess people about.
The bar manager was picking her nose and sitting on a stool watching a film on her mobile phone she served me and my friend two pints in two very dirty glasses, my glass had heavy brown stains down the side and my friends glass had lots of lipstick around the rim, I wouldn't advise anyone to visit now
It's an ok place but was asked to leave as I fell asleep not through alcohol but through medical condition won't go back
Celebrated our wedding reception here on 12 March 2022, could not fault anything, free function room so how can you go wrong. Easy commute if you are getting married at King's Hall stoke. Simon and his staff are amazing and couldn't do enough for us. Would definitely recommend for any occasion.
Thankyou Simon and staff for a lovely night
Always nice to see someone with the enthusiasm of Simon in charge of an iconic pub like this. Lots of new ideas while keeping the important bits going like good ale and a DJ at the weekend nights. Keep up the good work ☺️☺️
