Quick Facts About Winchester Christmas Market
The Winchester Christmas Market has several strengths that make it a popular destination during the holiday season. One of its main strengths is its location next to the historic Winchester Cathedral. Visitors appreciate the beautiful backdrop of the cathedral and find it impressive and imposing. The cathedral itself is described as a "sehr schöne geschichtsträchtige Kathedrale" (very beautiful historic cathedral) and adds to the overall charm of the market.
The market offers a variety of stalls with different products and offerings. Visitors mention that there are many great options for gifts, and everyone can find something they like. The market is praised for its wunderschöne Weihnachtsbuden (beautiful Christmas stalls) that sell a variety of products, including arts and crafts, seasonal items, and food. The availability of diverse options ensures that visitors can find unique and interesting presents.
In addition to the stalls, the market also features a central food area where visitors can enjoy a range of tasty treats. The gluhwein and roasted chestnut sellers are specifically mentioned as crowd favorites. The food stalls contribute to the festive atmosphere of the market and provide visitors with delicious snacks to enjoy while browsing.
Another strength of the Winchester Christmas Market is the additional attractions and amenities it offers. Next to the market, there is a café and a gift/souvenir shop. This allows visitors to take a break from shopping and enjoy a warm drink or explore the shop for more unique gifts. Additionally, the market hosts a light and sound show called Luxmuralis inside the cathedral. This show is highly recommended by visitors, but they advise getting tickets in advance.
The overall atmosphere of the market is described as festive and lovely. Visitors appreciate the live music from a local children's steel band that adds to the joyful ambiance. The market is praised for being well-organized, with all stalls located in small sheds. The well-lit cathedral and the pretty High Street contribute to the picturesque setting of the market.
The Winchester Christmas Market also benefits from its accessibility. Visitors are advised to use the Park & Ride service, which is not only convenient but also inexpensive. The availability of parking and a free bus service for Blue Badge holders or those with a Bus Pass makes it easier for people to access the market.
However, there are also some weaknesses and areas for improvement mentioned by visitors. One comment states that the market can be a little tricky to find. While this may be a minor issue, clearer signage or directions could be beneficial for visitors who are unfamiliar with the area.
In conclusion, the Winchester Christmas Market has several strengths that make it an attractive destination during the holiday season. Its location next to the beautiful Winchester Cathedral adds to its charm, and the market offers a wide variety of stalls with unique products. The festive atmosphere, live music, and additional attractions like the Luxmuralis show create an enjoyable experience for visitors. With minor improvements to signage or directions, the Winchester Christmas Market can further enhance its strengths and provide an even better experience for visitors.

We stayed in Winchester on Sunday night so we could visit in the evening and again on Monday morning, to combine with some Christmas shopping. The market is a little tricky to find but once we found our way, it was fantastic, with lots of stalls, a central food area and even live music from a local children's steel band. The atmosphere was very festive, especially with the backdrop of the cathedral and the beautiful lighting. I particularly liked the gluhwein???? and roasted chestnut ???? sellers. Recommended.
Stopped of in Winchester on the way to our holiday destination. I found the market to be most excellent, lots of different stalls, all the usual arts and crafts, food stalls, and a few unusual stalls. We managed to buy some Xmas presents, also enjoyed some mulled cider
Really good Christmas market in the shadow of Winchester Cathedral. Plenty of stalls selling a quality range of seasonal and non-seasonal items. If you're arriving by car, use the Park & Ride service which is both convenient and inexpensive - the bus is free if the have a Bus Pass and parking is free to Blue Badge holders.
2nd visit here. Xmas Market was lovely. Lots of cabins with a variety of goods. Plenty of food cabins. High Street was very pretty. Worth a visit.
Lovely Christmas Market near the Cathedral with lots to see, visited today (Monday) which wasnt too busy. Used the park and ride £3.50 all day. All stalls are in little sheds, and the Cathedral was lit up. Cathedral, Cathedral shop and cafe are well worth a visit.
Great Christmas market with an authentic feel in a lovely location. Some good food stalls too. Highly recommend the toasted sandwiches - not your standard fillings!
