Quick Facts About Ye Olde Boote Inn

Ye Olde Boote Inn has received mostly positive comments, highlighting its friendly staff, delicious food, comfortable rooms, and beautiful setting. However, there is one negative comment that raises concerns about the staff's professionalism and the lack of safety measures at the establishment. This raises some potential weaknesses that should be addressed.
One of the main strengths of Ye Olde Boote Inn is its friendly and accommodating staff. Multiple comments mention the staff's helpfulness and willingness to go above and beyond for their guests. This creates a positive and welcoming atmosphere that is likely to leave a lasting impression on visitors.
The food at Ye Olde Boote Inn is also highly praised. Comments describe the meals as delicious, well-prepared, and generous in portion size. Dishes such as liver and mash, gammon and chips, and pies with chips and gravy are specifically mentioned and appreciated. This indicates that the pub offers a diverse and satisfying menu that caters to a range of tastes.
The rooms at Ye Olde Boote Inn are described as clean, comfortable, and quiet. Guests who stayed overnight were pleased with the quality of the accommodations, including the comfortable beds. The mention of a view of the castle adds to the appeal of the rooms, showcasing the pub's beautiful location.
The setting of Ye Olde Boote Inn is consistently praised in the comments. Its location opposite a duck pond and castle is described as historic and beautiful, creating an enjoyable atmosphere for guests. Visitors express a desire to return during the winter to experience the cozy ambiance created by log fires.
Another positive aspect mentioned in the comments is the good selection of beer and the quality of the pints served. The pub is commended for its well-kept beer and the option to enjoy a pint of Guinness, which is known for its rich flavor.
Now, turning to areas of improvement, the negative comment raises concerns about the professionalism of the staff and the lack of safety measures at the establishment. The customer describes feeling unwelcome and judged by the staff and local patrons, likely due to being non-locals. This indicates a potential weakness in terms of customer service and inclusivity. It is important for the pub to ensure that all guests feel welcome and to address any potential biases among staff or locals.
Furthermore, the incident involving the customer slipping on the wet steps outside the pub highlights a potential safety issue. The absence of hand bars, mats, or caution signs on the slippery steps raises concerns about the pub's commitment to maintaining a safe environment for its customers. It is essential for the pub to prioritize the safety of its guests by implementing necessary precautions to prevent accidents.
In conclusion, Ye Olde Boote Inn has several strengths, including friendly staff, delicious food, comfortable rooms, a beautiful setting, and a good selection of beer. where do I start......... super friendly staff where nothing is too much of a problem! the food; well OMG, my wife had Liver, mash and gravy (it took her back to childhood), my children had Gammon, egg and chips, what a healthy portion. I had the Pie chips and gravy, the Pie was like a door wedge, which fell apart in my mouth.
We stayed over we stayed at the front of the pub, the room was quiet with comfortable beds. downstairs in the pub, lovely setting, I would love to return in the winter with the log fires on. cracking pint of Guinness with a good local community feel.
Stayed here last minute on a Saturday and they couldn't have been more accommodating if they tried!
Phone to explain we were arriving quite late and James was so kind and waiting for us.
That set the precedent for the whole stay. The room was absolutely perfect for what we wanted, squeaky clean, and such a comfortable bed!
To say the staff here were lovely would be an understatement!! The chefs also went out of their way to make us some burgers before our train home.
Would 100% recommend to anyone wanting to stay on the area! Thank you James and Team!
We have just had a family lunch at The Old Boote. The steak was the best we have ever had. Cooked perfectly and the food was fantastic. Staff are lovely and very helpful. Highly recommended to families to visit. Thank you.
Friendly helpful staff. Well kept beer. Good selection of well prepared food. The pub was spotlessly clean. I couldn't have wished for better.
Historic pub in a beautiful setting - opposite duck pond and castle. Room was good, everyone was very helpful, friendly and welcoming. Food was amazing - would recommend highly.
This place is a hidden little gem. Under new management. We were made to feel so welcome by Mark and his staff right from the beginning. Food was delicious and piping hot. The rooms were lovely with a view of the castle, beds were really comfortable. We had a lovely stay here really highly recommended. Mark and his staff have worked their socks off after only taking over the pub less than a week ago. Would highly recommend you pay a visit, thank you for a lovely stay.
I never ever write bad reviews but this was absolutely necessary after what's happened.
This has been such a nasty start to 2023.
My partner and I popped in for some food and a couple of drinks here. We aren't from this neck of the woods so we were looking forward to an evening of something a bit different having it being recommended to us. We're visiting from North Wales.
It has been non-stop raining today which I'd like to have highlighted throughout my review due to a horrible incident that happened as we left the pub.
We first approached the back/main entrance of the pub to read a sign said that no food was being served. We thought, fair enough... We will have a couple of drinks and go on elsewhere. We went in and my partner asked for a pint of Trooper and the barmaid said there was none left even though the sign was facing the customer. The sign should have been taken off or faced the opposite way. My partner and I have managed pubs so we know what is expected.
We then chose our drinks, they were served, we payed and we sat down hoping for a nice evening. As my partner and I were chatting between one another, we immediately noticed that a local man at the bar was whispering things about us to the barmaid. The local man had his back to us and pointed at us with his thumb in whispered conversation with the barmaid. We felt really uncomfortable. The barmaid seemed happily biased to join in the the local man's conversation to keep him happy than to be more anonymous, professional and respectful upon any customers like ourselves. Part of a barman/maid's job is to engage in conversation. We felt completely unwelcome and awkward. We made the effort to speak to the barmaid with small humour and kind, calm & polite responses. She was not interested. Myself and my partner were/are considerate, polite, kind and calm so we knew we can't have done anything to upset anyone other than locals not wanting non-locals at "their" pub. We've seen it as pub owners ourselves. We get it, but we never tolerated it in our pubs by staff nor locals.
By this point the barmaid also made it verbally clear that she couldn't wait to finish her shift which made us think that we should leave!
Feeling unwelcome, judged because we aren't locals and feeling generally awkward... We decided to leave and look for somewhere else.
We left the "main entrance" at the back with the carpark and it was full-on pouring with rain.
My partner and I got outside in the rain and began to walk down the steps. With there being no handle bar, mats or any health & safely prop nor sign as we stood on tiled/slated slippy steps... I slipped from the very top step, and my back and hip slammed at the very bottom step. I fell approximately 3ft in height and the same if not more in length.
Once I hit the bottom step... I don't cry in pain at all usually, but I did. The pain and the shock was horrible!
I stayed there crying, with my partner trying to comfort me. I couldn't move.
We shouted for help. No one came.
My partner had to support me to the van. I kept crying. We phoned my friend who is a senior nurse at Gobowen to observe me in the van on the way home because I was in so much pain. We did this after we phoned 999 and would be waiting 3 hours for an ambulance and waiting until early hours at the hospital in A&E.
I cannot wait to show a picture of how bruised I am. The steps outside looked like someone had thrown thick transparent varnish over the steps. There was no caution sign, no mats, no hand bar, no security cameras to alarm injury... nothing.
My partner and I are 99% certain that the staff/locals knew that I fell because I screamed. And after such judgemental chatter between staff and local punters, it didn't surprise us that no one came to help.
If that were an elderly person they will have very likely broken their hip, arm, collarbone, their back, their head which could have caused significant damage not only to them but to the pub itself.
The injury has literally shocked me. I've now been informed by that I must go to A&E tomorrow morning to get x-rayed.
Really enjoyed my visit, service was fast
& friendly. The beer ‘Robinson’s Dizzy Blonde’ was spot on. I had the “Boote Burger” it was very tasty. It was served on a chopping board which I thought unusual but didn’t add or take away from the experience for me. A little dearer than I’d normally pay but I put this down to local variations in prices! If I’m ever in the area again I’d certainly return.
