Quick Facts About De Courcy Centre

The De Courcy Centre in Carrickfergus is a small shopping centre located just off the main shopping street. Despite its size, it boasts a range of shops including popular ones like Iceland, Caskers, Home Bargains, Poundstretcher, Bon Marché, Card Factory, and even some independent traders. This variety of shops provides convenience for shoppers looking for an average shopping experience.
One of the strengths of the De Courcy Centre is its ability to weather economic downturns and the challenges of Covid. This demonstrates its resilience as a shopping centre and shows that it has been able to adapt and continue serving the community.
Another strength of the centre is the presence of a coffee shop/restaurant called Rima's. This establishment is well-regarded for providing good food at a reasonable price. Having a pleasant place to grab a bite to eat adds to the overall experience of visiting the De Courcy Centre.
The atmosphere of the shopping centre is also mentioned as a positive aspect. Shoppers comment on the pleasant service they receive from the shops in the mall, indicating that the staff are friendly and helpful. This can contribute to a positive overall shopping experience for customers.
Additionally, the De Courcy Centre offers free parking in the adjoining car park. This is a significant advantage, as finding parking spaces can often be a challenge in busy shopping areas. The availability of free parking makes it more convenient for shoppers and encourages them to visit the centre.
However, one weakness mentioned in the comments is that the majority of shops in the De Courcy Centre, including the cafe, appear to be closed on Sundays. This can be disappointing for shoppers who prefer to visit malls on weekends or who may be visiting from further afield. Having restricted opening hours on Sundays limits the potential customer base and may discourage some shoppers.
Furthermore, the size of the De Courcy Centre is mentioned as a limitation. Being a small shopping centre means that the range of shops available is limited. While it may be suitable for an average shopping experience, it may not have the variety or uniqueness to attract shoppers from outside of Carrickfergus. This limits the potential customer base and may hinder the centre's ability to compete with larger shopping centres in nearby areas.
Another minor niggle mentioned is the occasional malfunctioning of the sliding doors at two of the centre's entrance doors. While this issue is described as minor, it can still be an inconvenience for shoppers and create a negative impression.
In conclusion, the De Courcy Centre in Carrickfergus has its strengths in its ability to weather economic downturns, the range of shops it offers, the pleasant atmosphere, and the availability of free parking. However, it also has weaknesses such as limited opening hours on Sundays, a small size that limits the variety of shops, and occasional issues with the sliding doors. Overall, it serves as a convenient and pleasant shopping option for those in Carrickfergus but may not have enough to attract shoppers from further afield.

Small shopping centre just of the main shopping street in Carrickfergus. It is small so the range of shops is pretty limited but suitable for an average shop. Let down somewhat by the fact the majority of shops in it (including the cafe) appear to be closed on a Sunday. Ok if you love in Carrickfergus but nothing to bring you in from further afield.
The DeCourcy Centre in Carrickfergus has remarkably weathered economic downturns and Covid.
Its relatively small size belies the range of shops like Iceland, Caskers, Home Bargains, Poundstretcher , Bon Marché, Card Factory etc. There are also independent traders too!
The list is topped off with a rather decent coffee shop / restaurant ( Rima's ) which provides good food at a reasonable price.
Furthermore , the atmosphere is pleasant and car parking is free in the adjoining car park.
Only one minor niggle - the sliding doors at the two of the centre's five entrance doors will often be out of commission. But as I say, it's a minor niggle.
PS you can discount the TripAdvisor rating of 2.5 out of 5 - it is inaccurate and unrepresentative.
