Quick Facts About Deck Cafe & Restaurant

Deck Cafe & Restaurant is a popular cafe in Bristol that offers a mix of Hungarian and English cuisine. Based on the comments provided, it is evident that the cafe has several strengths and weaknesses.
One of the main strengths of Deck Cafe & Restaurant is its reasonable prices. Many customers mention that the cafe offers affordable options, with two coffees and a brownie costing less than £8. This makes it an attractive option for those on a budget, especially considering the prices in Bristol.
Another strength mentioned by customers is the quality of the food. The cafe specializes in Hungarian dishes, such as Goulash, and customers consistently praise the deliciousness of the food. The staff is also commended for their professionalism and friendliness.
Variety is another strength of Deck Cafe & Restaurant. Customers mention that there are many vegetarian and vegan options available, making it inclusive for those with dietary restrictions. The menu also offers a mix of Hungarian and English dishes, providing options for different tastes and preferences.
The atmosphere and decor of the cafe are also mentioned as strengths. Customers describe the interior as nicely decorated, with plants and books covering the walls. This adds to the cozy and artsy atmosphere, creating a pleasant dining experience.
On the other hand, there are some weaknesses mentioned by customers. One customer mentions that the cafe can feel small and crowded, making it less suitable for intimate or private conversations. Another customer mentions that the windows were steamed up and covered in condensation, suggesting a lack of proper ventilation or heating.
In terms of the food, there are a few criticisms. One customer mentions that their Meaty Burrito had very little meat in it, and it was not as substantial as they expected. Another customer mentions that their Hungarian Omelette was more like scrambled eggs, suggesting a deviation from the traditional omelette preparation. These complaints indicate a potential inconsistency in the food quality or portion sizes.
Despite these weaknesses, the positive aspects of Deck Cafe & Restaurant seem to outweigh the negatives. The cafe's affordable prices, delicious food, and friendly staff contribute to its popularity and positive reviews. It is a recommended cafe to try for those looking for a cozy atmosphere and a mix of Hungarian and English cuisine. The variety of options, including vegetarian and vegan choices, is also a selling point for the cafe.

This is a nice, reasonably priced cafe that specialises in Hungarian food (Goulash etc.) but also stocks traditional English fare. We only stopped briefly for a coffee and brownie but we did see what others were eating and the food looked good! Two coffees and a brownie came in at under £8 so not too bad for Bristol. It's nicely decorated inside with lots of plants and books covering the walls. Would recommend!
Great little gem on Gloucester Road - does cafe breakfasts/brunches, fresh cakes/pastries and also would highly recommend all the Hungarian specials. I try something new each time I come and am never disappointed.
Staff are amazing and food is delicious. I believe its 2-4-1 Thursdays as well!
Delicious homemade Hungarian food. They let us try a very hot paprika relish too. Cheesecake was perfect. Really friendly service too.
Definitely a Café to try!

Great service and excellent Hungarian dishes amongst many other wonderful options. We always have a great time, and lush Hungarian wines.
I'm not too familiar with Hungarian food, probably 'Goulash' is the only dish I'd recognise so I was interested to see what the menu looked like at The Deck.
We stood outside and read the Breakfast Menu taped to the window and we were happy with the options available, so we decided to go in.
Inside it was warm and slightly damp, the windows were steamed up and covered in condensation. The Cafe isn't huge, but they had a selection of rustic wooden tables and chairs that allowed couples or larger crowds of maybe 6-8 to eat together but it was a bit tight and not the place for secret or intimate conversations.
There were some high stools in the window where (on another day) a lone customers could sit and watch the pedestrian traffic on the pavement outside.
We sat at a table just inside the door and were soon given a menu which offered some interesting options to the Full English and I decided on the Meaty Burrito (£7.75) with a Hot Chocolate (£2.55) whilst my wife went for the Hungarian Omelette (£6.95) and a Flat White Coffee (£2.75).
The Meat Burrito was a little disappointing. It had very little meat in it. It was advertised as Scrambled egg with Bacon, Chorizo, red Onion and Spinach in a wrap with Cheese and Avocado.
I imagined a wrap full of Bacon and Spicy Sausage but It was in fact a 'Scrambled Egg Wrap,' there was very little meat included.
It's a pity really as this could have been a great option.
If it had been served with a few slices of Bacon or a couple of Sausages, maybe some Hash Browns and a few baked beans it would have been a great breakfast but it was a bit frugal. I enjoyed it but it was nowhere near substantial enough to satisfy the appetite of the Fat-boys breakfast club.
My wife enjoyed her choice but again it was 'Scrambled Egg' rather than an Omelette as we know it.
Service was friendly and efficient though we weren't very demanding.
There were some rather nice looking cakes and pastries available but we decided to resist the temptation and head out into the bitter cold wind of storm Arwen.
The food always tastes great and the atmosphere is very homely. Make sure to try out the Hungarian specials too.
Very cozy and artsy place, the waitress was lovely! The food was delicious.
