Quick Facts About Fishermans Cottage, Shanklin
Fisherman's Cottage in Shanklin has several strengths that make it a popular destination for visitors. One of its greatest strengths is its location. Situated right on the beach, it offers beautiful views of Shanklin Bay and allows guests to enjoy the beach atmosphere while dining. The outdoor seating area, with large umbrellas over the tables, provides an excellent spot to soak up the sun and relax in the warm night air. Its proximity to the beach also means guests can easily go for a stroll along the shore before or after their meal.
Another strength of Fisherman's Cottage is the quality of its food. Many of the reviewers mentioned that the food was delicious and well-prepared. Dishes such as fish and chips, seafood platter, mussels, tagliatelle, and grilled salmon with prawns received positive reviews. The fish and chips were particularly highlighted as the best some reviewers had ever tasted. The portions were also mentioned as generous, satisfying hungry diners.
The staff at Fisherman's Cottage were commended for being friendly and welcoming. Despite being busy, they were described as overworked but still managed to have a smile on their faces. This positive attitude towards customers contributes to the overall enjoyable dining experience at the pub.
The quaint and cosy atmosphere created by the thatched cottage design was also appreciated by guests. Its location tucked away at the bottom of Shanklin Chine adds to the charm of the establishment. Inside seating is available for those who prefer a more intimate dining experience, while the outside seating is highly recommended to take advantage of the beautiful beachfront views.
However, there are a few weaknesses of Fisherman's Cottage that should be considered. One recurring comment is the popularity of the pub, which can result in waiting times for a table. Some guests reported having to wait to be seated, particularly during peak times. While it was noted that the staff did their best to accommodate everyone and that waiting times were generally manageable, this could be seen as a potential inconvenience for those who prefer not to wait.
Additionally, a few reviews mentioned that the service could be slow, possibly due to the high volume of customers. While staff members were described as friendly and welcoming, it was noted that getting their attention to place food orders could require some prompting. However, it should be acknowledged that the staff's positive attitude and friendliness compensated for any minor service delays.
Lastly, the price of the food and drink at Fisherman's Cottage was mentioned as slightly higher than average. While most reviewers did not have an issue with the prices, it is worth considering for those on a tighter budget.
In conclusion, Fisherman's Cottage in Shanklin has several strengths that make it a popular choice for diners. Its beautiful beachfront location, delicious food, friendly staff, and cosy atmosphere contribute to a positive overall dining experience. However, the popularity of the pub can result in waiting times, and the service can be slightly slow when busy. Additionally, the prices may be higher than average. Despite these minor weaknesses, Fisherman's Cottage remains a favorite spot for locals and visitors alike, offering a delightful dining experience in a picturesque setting.

Beste Lage für ein Nachmittags in der Sonne. Essen nicht versucht.
Tucked away at the very bottom of Shanklin Chine on the edge of the beach you find this delightfully cosy thatched cottage pub with food. Sadly, we visited on a Monday evening and the kitchen was closed so I can't comment on the menu or food. The people were very welcoming and there's a good array of drinks to enjoy. There is some outdoor seating with huge umbrellas over the tables. Finding this from the Esplanade is straight forward but you need to look hard for the archway sign. There is no dedicated parking so park on the street and walk down the narrow alleyway towards the western end of the beach.
Beautiful place, really nice food. Eat in or out. Only very small criticism is that because it's a great pub, it's popular and that means people will need to wait until someone has finished. Can be a little intimidating if your not ready to go knowing people want to eat too. We did not have any issues as everyone waiting were patient.
Amazing location virtually on the beach, overlooking Shanklin Bay. We could smell the delicious food before walking in and although we had to wait a few minutes for a table , when we finally sat, we were outside in the little courtyard enjoying warm night air looking at the full moon rising over the horizon. Quite Magical! We shared a giant seafood platter, containing King prawns, whitebait, calamari, onion rings, mussels, on a bed of crab and salad. We cleared every last morsel! A great evening, great food, spectacular location and one of my favourite places in the UK
Lovely little thatched cottage right on the beach front, tucked away from the busy Shanklin esplanade. Great views of the beach, outside seating is a must, inside seating is available.
Very busy pub, went for food around 5:30 no reservation and was added to a waiting list, was seated by 6:00 drinks order was almost instant, had to prompt a member of staff to take our food order - 2 very friendly and overworked guys always had a smile not something you get when people are busy and stressed. Could of happily sat here for the evening over looking the beach with a drink.
A return visit in the future.
There is a discretionary 10% service charge.
Amazing place for food and drink. At the time of our arrival 5 pm restaurant was fully occupied for outdoors, so it's good to reserve table of you want to sit outdoors. Food was delicious. Have ordered a fishpie and mussels. Both were really tasty. Prices are normal but to higher end . Dog friendly. Staff were really friendly and welcoming, perhaps slower just because it was really busy . All in all , couldn't be happier with the food (many thanks to chef) and service. :)))
We had lovely meal here last month. I opted for the fish and chips and my husband had his favourite tagetielle. We were not disappointed in my opinion the fish and chips was the best I have ever eaten as none of it was greasy at all. Beautiful location too
We had some mussels, fish and chip and grilled salmon with prawns. All the food was great, we really enjoy and the portions of the fish were quite big as well.
