Quick Facts About Home Cafe Deli
Home Cafe Deli has received mostly positive comments from customers, highlighting its strengths as a coffee and cake shop with a relaxed atmosphere and friendly service. The strengths of Home Cafe Deli can be summarized as follows:
1. Superb coffee & amazing cakes: The quality of the coffee and cakes is highly praised by customers. The independent nature of the cafe is credited with serving better coffee than specialist chains.
2. Menu variety: Home Cafe Deli offers a decent menu with options for all tastes and appetites. Customers can choose from brunch type snacks, sandwiches, and a variety of cakes.
3. Friendly and welcoming staff: Customers have consistently mentioned the warm welcome and courteous service they received from the staff. One specific mention is made about the server Paolo, who was polite and made excellent menu suggestions.
4. Cool and quirky interior: The mismatched furniture and homely atmosphere of the cafe are appreciated by customers. It adds to the relaxed and comfortable ambiance of the place.
5. Good value for money: Customers appreciate the reasonable prices at Home Cafe Deli, particularly the offer of 2 coffees and 2 cakes for under a tenner. The combination of quality and affordability makes it a must-visit place.
However, there are a few weaknesses that have been pointed out by some customers:
1. Unpleasant staff and off atmosphere: One customer mentioned that the staff seemed unpleasant and that there was something off about the atmosphere. This negative comment indicates that the cafe may have some issues with customer service and the overall vibe of the place.
2. Lack of meat in sandwiches: One customer pointed out that their pastrami sandwich lacked meat and could have been improved with toasting. This suggests that there might be inconsistencies in the preparation of dishes and the quality of ingredients.
3. Stale croissants: One customer had a negative experience when they were served stale croissants with their cappuccino. They felt that the staff intentionally hid the fact that the croissants were not fresh. This incident reflects poorly on the customer service and attention to detail of the cafe.
4. Decline in food quality: One customer mentioned that the quality of the food had changed dramatically over time. They had a disappointing breakfast with cheap meat and incorrect ingredients. The cleanliness of the tables was also mentioned as a concern, which is particularly worrying during the current cleanliness-focused climate.
In conclusion, Home Cafe Deli has several strengths, including superb coffee and amazing cakes, a diverse menu, friendly staff, and a cool interior. However, there are weaknesses in terms of occasional lapses in customer service, inconsistencies in food quality, and cleanliness issues. These areas of improvement should be addressed to maintain and enhance the overall customer experience.

Wow. Superb coffee & amazing cakes.
I've been meaning to go here for months and now I'm wishing I'd gone sooner.
A cool quirky interior with mismatched furniture, which just works. Very relaxed atmosphere. Friendly welcome and a decent menu for all tastes and appetites. You can have brunch type snacks, sandwiches, or, as we did, some utterly delicious cakes. The coffee was fab, it's always these independent places that serve the best coffee, so much better than those so-called specialist chains. I tasted coffee, good roasted beans, not burned earth like in, well, you know where.
We had lemon pie and a pink layered cake. The lemon was sharp but sweet, lovely crust to the pastry. The pink layer cake was so moist, with jam, cream and an iced finish. Amazing.
Great value too, 2 coffees and 2 cakes for under a tenner is a decent buy, but coupled with the quality, this is a must go.
Please, go and support them, enjoy the cakes and sip the coffee!
I went here during a lunch time, I was greeted with smiles from all of the staff especially from the server Paolo, he was very polite, smiley & courteous. Paolo suggested I try the French toast with bacon, I took his suggestion. After one bite I was taken to a place I can only describe as euphoric! The decor is nice feels warm and homely all together a great visit which will definitely not be my last.
A failed attempt at an independent coffee shop. The food is decent, but the staff are unpleasant, and the atmosphere is "off".
The sandwich i had (pastrami) was good, but definitely lacked meat, and could do with some toasting.

Served me Stale croissants with my cappuccino. I use to go in here two or three times a week. They said they were the last two croissants left and would I like them heated I realised whilst I was eating them they were stale. They have never asked if I would like them heated before, I thought this was unusual, they obviously did this to camouflage the fact that there were not fresh Whilst I was eating them I noticed they brought out a fresh tray of fresh croissants I thought this was an absolutely disgraceful way to treat a regular customer. I looked at them as They brought the fresh croissants out, I think they were a little embarrassed that I noticed, they just sort of smiled and laughed, And then went straight back into the kitchen. Appalling customer service.
Their are many good coffee bars in Birmingham, So obviously, I'm going to take my custom elsewhere.
best independent cafe / deli / bar in birmingham
think its independent, great music, great light food and small sharing plates.
simple food & drink but done very well.
I visited this place a few years ago when last in Birmingham as I walked past decided to go in as enjoyed it then.
It didn't disappoint. Lovely friendly staff. My sister had a cocktail and a slice of cake. Random mix I know but it was just what we fancied. Both cake and cocktails were good
Wicked, as always! Often come here for breakfast with a colleague and it's consistently good! Really good coffee and lovely, generously sized cakes. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and will generally make whatever you ask for will
The quality of the food has changed dramatically. We were regular customers of this place 18mths ago. But sadly the breakfast today was well below standard. Awful cheap meat, snotty eggs, food also not as described. Feta cheese instead of halloumi for breakfast. Was really sad to see so much has changed. Sticky tables too, which is a bit worrying as everything is supposed to be super clean atm. Won't be returning.
