Quick Facts About Lantern

Lantern Place seems to have a number of strengths based on the comments provided. Firstly, the food is consistently praised as excellent, particularly the garlic mushrooms and steak dishes. This suggests that the restaurant takes pride in the quality and taste of its menu items. The Greek salad, scampi provencale, and desserts are also mentioned positively, indicating a diverse and satisfying menu.
Another strength highlighted is the customer service, which is consistently described as friendly, personal, and impeccable. The staff are mentioned as being welcoming, explaining any potential delays, and ensuring that customers feel valued and well taken care of. The use of proper silver service is also mentioned as a positive aspect, contributing to a more traditional and high-quality dining experience.
Additionally, the restaurant's atmosphere is praised for being warm, friendly, and relaxed, creating a comfortable and enjoyable environment for diners. The retro decor is mentioned positively, suggesting a unique and charming ambiance.
Another strength is the location, with one comment referring to it as a hidden gem. The fact that the restaurant is tucked away down a small alley and up a few stairs contributes to its appeal as a unique and special dining experience.
Value for money is also mentioned positively, suggesting that the portion sizes and quality of the food are worth the price paid.
The cleanliness of the restaurant, particularly the toilets, is also highlighted as a strength. The attention to detail in maintaining a clean and hygienic space adds to the overall positive experience.
There are a few potential weaknesses that can be inferred from the comments, although they are not explicitly mentioned. Firstly, the comment about the restaurant being easily overlooked suggests that the location might be a disadvantage for some potential customers. If the restaurant is not easily accessible or visible, it may require extra effort for customers to find it.
Another potential weakness is the mention of the restaurant being busy and having a potential wait time. While this may indicate that the restaurant is popular, it could also be seen as a negative aspect for customers who are looking for a faster dining experience or have time constraints.
Lastly, the comment about the lack of vegetables included with the meals might suggest that the side dishes are not as substantial as some customers might prefer. While the ability to choose your own sides is mentioned as a positive aspect, this could also be seen as an inconvenience for those who prefer their sides to be included with the main dish.
In conclusion, Lantern Place appears to have numerous strengths based on the comments provided. The food is consistently praised, with specific dishes standing out as exceptional. The customer service is highlighted as friendly and personal, and the atmosphere is described as warm and relaxed. The location, value for money, and cleanliness are also mentioned positively. However, there are some potential weaknesses, such as the restaurant's hidden location, potential wait times, and the lack of included side dishes. Despite these potential drawbacks, Lantern Place seems to be highly recommended overall.

Best TL Reviews

We had garlic mushrooms to start and grilled sirloin steak & fries and scampi provencale & fies plus a Greek salad. The food was excellent (the garlic mushrooms to die for!) and the customer service was impeccable, very personal and friendly. We would have had a dessert, there is a great selection, but we were too full...
I highly recommend this lovely, family run restaurant in Whitefriargate, Hull. If you like great food and friendly service, this is the place to go!!
What a hidden gem of a place this is!!!
Located down a small alley and then up a few stairs.
Into a lovely restaurant with a warm and very friendly atmosphere.
Immediately welcomed by the staff who explained that they were very busy if we didn't mind waiting, we didn't and the wait was worth while!
Our food was fantastic!!!!
We both had steaks that were cooked to perfection. We had various sides, a large Greek salad, French fries, boiled potatoes and cauliflower cheese to accompany our meal. All bursting with flavour and plenty for the 2 of us.
Dessert was equally as good, a Bailey's trifle and the Greek pastries, beautiful end to a great meal.
Great value for money and will definitely be going back when we are here again.
The steak is amazing, the service is fabulous (proper silver service) and Nikki is a wonderful hostess! The décor is retro but clean and very serviceable. You walk down this little passage way in between two shops in Hull city centre and up some stairs, you'll probably think you can't possibly be in the right place but when you get to the top you'll be greeted by friendly staff and the sight of enormous, melt in the mouth steaks cooking in the kitchen. If you like good steak and big portions then definitely give it a go!
The food is to die for! The service is of the highest order, real people no standing on ceremony and the restaurant has a magical ambiance!
A fabulous old school dining experience which you just don't find in Hull these days. A really warm welcome, we were seated in the comfortable bar area for drinks whilst we perused the menu, we gave our order and then after a short period of time we were shown to our table.
My two sons had sirloin steak each that were cooked to perfection, I had a fantastic porterhouse steak that was packed full of flavour and my parents both had sea bass. The vegetables do not come with the meal, but this means you can choose what you want, and with the meal being silver served, you decide on your portions.
Our table ordered three desserts as two of our party were full. A rather nice end to a great meal.
I used the gents bathroom as I believe if a restaurants toilets are clean, everywhere else will be clean and my theory holds true. The toilets were clean, hygienic and smelled fresh. There was a plentiful stock of hand soap and hand towels.
This little restaurant is a gem of a find, and it can be quite easily overlooked when walking down Whitefriargate. This restaurant has been going for a good 60 years and so I would hope people go and support this local business so they can look forward to another 60 years in Hull
Nikkie and staff made my birthday night very special and the food was excellent as always thanks guys
The only true steak restaurant in Hull.
Silver service at table, excellent food and customer service.
