Quick Facts About Malaysia Hall Canteen
Malaysia Hall Canteen has several strengths that contribute to its positive reputation. Firstly, many customers praise the authenticity of the Malaysian cuisine served at the restaurant. The food is described as delicious, tasty, and flavorful, with specific recommendations for dishes such as kerabu, mee rebus, nasi lemak, and roti canai. Customers also appreciate the spiciness of the food, which adds another layer of flavor to the dining experience.
Another strength mentioned by customers is the homely atmosphere of the canteen. It is described as a place that makes customers feel like they are at home. The staff is known for their ultimate Malaysian hospitality, being friendly and accommodating. The overall experience is described as excellent, with the staff going above and beyond to ensure customer satisfaction.
The location of the canteen is also seen as a strength, being a short walk from Bayswater tube station. This makes it easily accessible for customers, especially for those who are craving Malaysian cuisine while visiting London.
In terms of pricing, many customers find the food to be reasonably priced. They feel that they are getting great value for their money, especially considering the quality and taste of the dishes. This is particularly important as it allows customers to enjoy authentic Malaysian cuisine without breaking the bank.
Furthermore, the helpfulness of the staff is another strength mentioned by customers. They are appreciated for their assistance in navigating the menu and providing recommendations. Customers feel welcomed and valued due to the staff's attentive and helpful nature. Additionally, the canteen is commended for implementing good safety protocols, which is especially important in the current COVID-19 situation.
Despite these strengths, there are also some weaknesses mentioned by customers. One recurring issue is the policy that only Malaysians are allowed in the canteen, unless accompanied by a Malaysian guest. This policy is not clearly communicated, leading to confusion and embarrassment for non-Malaysians who arrive and are turned away. It is suggested that the canteen should make this policy clearer, such as by putting up a sign on the door.
There are also some concerns about the cleanliness of the canteen. Some customers mention that the tables are not cleaned regularly, and it is unclear if anyone is responsible for cleaning them. However, it is noted that despite this, there have been no reported issues with food safety or hygiene.
The variety of options on the menu is another weakness mentioned by customers. Some feel that the options are not the widest and are more tailored towards Malay cuisine. This may limit the choices for customers who prefer a wider range of Malaysian dishes.
Another area of improvement mentioned by customers is the payment method. Currently, the canteen does not accept card payments, which may be inconvenient for customers, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic when cashless transactions are encouraged. It is hoped that the canteen will consider implementing card payments in the future.
In conclusion, Malaysia Hall Canteen is praised for its authentic Malaysian cuisine, homely atmosphere, reasonable pricing, and helpful staff. However, there are some weaknesses to address, such as the unclear policy on only allowing Malaysians and the lack of variety on the menu. Overall, the strengths of the canteen outweigh the weaknesses, making it a popular choice for those seeking a taste of Malaysia in London.

Really nice authentic Malaysian restaurant serving authentic Malay food. Came for the kerabu that is served every Sunday and also the Mee Rebus special. Very delicious indeed and also spicy. Nice selection of dessert kuih to select from.
Great tasty Malaysian cuisine with a homely atmosphere. Only Malaysians allowed unless you come as a guest with one. We had some nasi campur, nasi lemak and some cakes with teh tarik. All sumptious and well recommended
I went here two Sundays ago and I was allowed to go in and nobody asked me if I am a Malaysian. They had good safety protocols.
I was overwhelmed by the food selections for Nasi Campur so I enquired and the staff were very helpful and accommodating. I had Nasi Campur with 3 dishes: squid red curry, chicken curry and aubergine. These were sublime recommendations washed down with Teh Tahrik. I had some take away of glutinous rice sweets, Nasi Kerabu and Roti Canai.
My overall experience was so excellent with staff being so friendly, showing ultimate Malaysian hospitality, that I started raving about this little gem of Malay food to friends to try.
However I came back this Sunday with a friend and we were turned away because the canteen was only for Malaysians and we should be accompanied by Malaysians. Since I was raving about it the week before, we were really looking forward to having a Malaysian feast. The lady behind behind the desk was polite but I hope they make it clear here or put a sign on the door about this policy. It was simply embarrassing. I would not want this to happen to other non Malaysians who would try to venture here and experience the same embarrassment.
I will not lower my rating fo this place despite this recent incident. I maintain their food is really good and the hospitality by the canteen staff is very heartwarming.
This alone Malaysians should be proud of.
The place is a short walk from Bayswater tube station. Good food Malaysian at a very reasonable price, with the finest Malaysian hospitality! Great service, will definitely visit again! We had nasi campur, nasi lemak and roti canai. The roti canai and dhal with a dash of sambal bilis was particularly good. They had an array of kuehs - so we had some takeaway. Air bandung is a must try!
This place makes you feel like home! Their mi rebus is my favourite - at £5.50 per bowl it’s such a bargain! I love their teh tarik and nasi lemak too. Their traditional kuih and sweet delicacies are amazing - almost every single of them will make u smile because they’re genuinely so good! It’s unfortunate that their don’t offer card payments but I hope they will do this soon due to covid.
Been here lebih kurang 3 years ago. Nov 2018. Makanan banyak pilihan & semua nampak sodappp. Rasa takde beza ngan kat Malaysia, jiwa pun tenang dapat makan makanan tanah air. Tapi 4 stars je lah sebab tetibe je staff sana pandang I lain macam as if I ade buat salah. Tak baik buat customer macam tu tau. Btw, I confirm akan datang makan lagi lain kali after this pandemic gone sebab I ade kat KL now. Missing London so much.
Third time in London now and every visit feels incomplete without coming to eat here. It always makes me feel as if I'm in Malaysia. There aren't many malaysian restaurants in Germany, so this is the best place for me to fulfill my cravings. Love the kuih choices and the catfish dish is awesome too. Oh and the teh tarik, you shouldn't miss it.
I give it a solid 3.5 star on flavor but options aren't the widest. More tailor to the Malay cuisine.
Price is decent.
Very Basic decor canteen style place. Order and pick up food yourself, and clean up your own dishes. Not particularly sure if anyone clean the table once in a whilst.
Food was tasty enough. Unfortunately the lemongrass curry I wanted didn't have enough to do a full serving, they wouldn't let me order that and mix in a bit of something. So it was disappoint.
Got the next red curry lamb and it was ok. I wasn't whelmed.
Keow Teo noodles was flavorful and have enough ingredient.
The kuih/pastry. Some was good. The fried stuff been been sitting out for too long so wasn't as good.
I realize now. The precook dishes wasn't kept warm which I assume isn't up to some health code. But no problem with tummy after eating it.
Service for ala carte order was very fast. It wasn't a busy hour at around 7.30pm. Some of the precook curry was already sold out.
The tea Tarik was pre-made. Free water and the red is color flavor drinks.
