Quick Facts About Mariam African Hair Braiding
After analyzing the comments provided, it is clear that there are both strengths and weaknesses associated with Mariam African Hair Braiding. The strengths include the friendliness of the staff, the ability to accommodate last-minute appointments, the quality of the braids in some cases, and the cleanliness of the salon. On the other hand, the weaknesses include inconsistencies in pricing, long waiting times, poor braiding quality and cleanliness in some instances, and a lack of responsiveness from the owner.
One of the strengths mentioned by multiple commenters is the friendliness of the staff. Customers appreciate the kind and welcoming atmosphere created by Mariam and her team. This positive aspect contributes to a comfortable experience for customers, making them feel valued and satisfied with the service provided.
Another strength is Mariam's willingness to accommodate last-minute appointments. One customer mentioned that Mariam stayed past closing time to finish her box braids. This level of flexibility and dedication to customer satisfaction is commendable and can create loyal clientele who appreciate the extra effort put forth by the staff.
Additionally, the quality of the braids was praised by some customers. They mentioned that their hairstyles turned out exactly as they wanted them to and were satisfied with the end result. This indicates that the braiders have the skill and expertise to create styles that meet the expectations of the customers.
The cleanliness of the salon was also mentioned as a positive aspect by some commenters. They appreciated the cleanliness and organization of the salon, which contributes to a more hygienic and pleasant experience for customers. A clean and well-maintained environment is important in a hair braiding salon, as it reflects professionalism and attention to detail.
However, there are some weaknesses associated with Mariam African Hair Braiding based on the comments provided. One recurring issue is inconsistencies in pricing. One customer mentioned that they were initially quoted a price of $280, but were then charged $350 plus the cost of purchasing their own hair. Another customer mentioned being charged an extra $150 because of their hair type, even though they were initially told it would be $300. Inconsistencies in pricing can lead to customer dissatisfaction and a lack of trust in the salon.
Long waiting times were also mentioned as a weakness. One customer mentioned waiting for 7.5 hours due to having three different braiders and a wait time in between. This indicates a lack of efficiency and organization within the salon, which can be frustrating for customers who have other commitments and time constraints.
Braiding quality and cleanliness were also mentioned as weaknesses in some instances. One customer mentioned that their braids were ratty and not clean, and another mentioned that their hair was dropped on the ground and still used. Poor braiding quality and lack of cleanliness can greatly affect the overall satisfaction of customers and their willingness to return.
Lastly, a lack of responsiveness from the owner was mentioned by one customer. They reached out to the owner to express their dissatisfaction with their braids, but never received a reply. This indicates a lack of customer service and a failure to address customer concerns, which can result in negative word-of-mouth and a loss of potential customers.
In conclusion, while Mariam African Hair Braiding has some strengths such as friendliness, flexibility with appointments, quality braids in some cases, and clean surroundings, there are also weaknesses that need to be addressed. These include inconsistencies in pricing, long waiting times, poor braiding quality and cleanliness, and a lack of responsiveness from the owner. By addressing these weaknesses, the salon can improve customer satisfaction and attract more business.

This was my second time going here because the first time it took a long time however my braids were nice. This time a whole different experience.
I call to make my appointment it was set for Sunday at 9am that’s the time she gave me. Ok that was fine. I sent her pics of what they did last time so she knew exactly what I was gettin she said it would be the same price as last time $280.
On Saturday she calls and ask if I can come
Now I live 45 minutes from the shop so of course I headed there even tho it was a rush. I also asked if I needed to buy my hair she told me that it would be better to purchase my Hair from next door to her salon to ensure it was the right hair.
Long story short a few things went wrong
Starting with her trying to charge me $350! On top of me purchasing my own hair.
I had 3 different braiders all at different times with a wait in between braiders so it took me 7.5 hours
The hair was ratty! My braids were not clean at all! They weren’t even braided down close to the end. I asked for ombré but she blended my colors because she was tired. Then to top it off the owner asked me to take the last braider that was doing my hair home. So I was riding around Durham an extra 20 minutes at midnight after getting my hair done. I did reach out to the owner to let her know my braids look terrible after 10 days and I sent her the pics I’m posting. She never replied…. I won’t be going there again ever! Don’t waste your money. Pics attached were taken on the 10th day after getting my braids.
I visited Mariam African Hair Braiding after scheduling an appointment 2 days earlier by phone. She and everyone in the shop was very friendly. I got micro braids and was in the shop for about 2.5 hours which is the fasts I’ve ever gotten my hair braided. I really love my style ???? definitely will visit again.
My daughter googled hair braiding in Durham and she found Mariam's African Hair braiding. We are quite satisfied with the customer service and very satisfied with the knotless braids. "Beautiful" the best we ever since. Thank you for your great service and we'll return for other services.
I love love Mariam African Hair braiding salon!! The staffs are really nice and hardworking! The place is so clean and Mariam and so nice. I’ve been getting my hair done there since 2017 and I’m there till the wheels fall off. Thank you so much for getting me right every time !!
The young girl and her mother (I think) did phenomenal. What a shame, because I truly love the hairstyle, it came out exactly how I wanted it to. I’m giving this place a bad review for reasons outside of the actual hair. 1- The place was not clean, I noticed they dropped my hair on the ground a few times and still used it (even though the ground was filthy). 2-There were two other ladies that were braiders there and they kept giving me dirty looks. One of the ladies made a very rude statement as I was leaving to get the tip for my braiders. She said “you’re a trucker? you look like one” and then proceeded to laugh. Also, I called this place and asked for an estimate, she said it’s starts at $200 for the hairstyle I wanted. Because my hair was shorter and 4c, they charged me extra. $150 extra. Even though when I got there she told me it would be $300. Where did the extra $50 come from? How are you an African hair braider and texturist..? Such a shame, I’m not going to be coming back.
I love my braids. it did not take long at all, Mariam and her team got me in. Everyone is nice.

These ladies are WONDERFUL! They Deserve 10 stars! We came to them last minute and they took my daughter in right away, they close at 7-7:30 but stayed way past 10pm to finish her box braids. Not only did they look amazing, they have great customer service. I would recommend this place to anyone in need of braids or any type. We will forever be customers at Mariams! Mariam builds a relationship with her customers and makes them feel welcome and comfortable! However, next time we will make an appointment, we are pleased and thankful that Mariam did not hesitate to take us in last minute and then stayed way past closing!
I had a very nice experience, everyone was very friendly and very accommodating. I was supposed to get my hair braided somewhere else but it didn’t work out and they were able to get me in the same day! Box braids of course take a long time because they are tedious but I was actually able to get out at least an hour earlier than I had by a different company. I appreciate everyone’s kindness and the effort that they put in to make sure that my braids looked nice. Would definitely recommend and have already been complimented and referred two people the same day I got my hair done!
