I applauded this salon based on my experiences years ago and the owner's passion for natural hair and the products used.
However, after three significant disappointments in a six-month timeframe, my patience wore thin. Although, I did speak with the owner and briefly I’m still very disappointed.
The first incident should have been my last when I came in for a consultation with Meka (Nuwbns Location on Bragg Blvd), and we booked the appointment in August 2020. When I showed up for my appointment, Meka was a no show, and it was figured out she was off that day. However, Brittany wanted to make the situation right, and she worked me into her schedule. Brittany became the regular stylist I continued to book appointments with.
The second incident, I had an appointment in January 2021. Brittany is more than 30 mins late because she had not eaten. The owner, who was in the salon, kept mentioning she will be here shortly. If it's required for client's to be on time, the stylist should on time. It's about respecting each others time.
The third incident and final was Feb 2021 when I decided to roll my dice with another stylist since Brittany was sick. The morning of my appointment it was getting very busy in the salon. I’m sure if the stylist (with blue locs) that morning could have started my service she would have. She made some phone calls, but you sense her frustration and I applaud her for remaining calm and professional. After waiting for over 30 mins another stylist was called in on her day off, to start my shampoo, until the owner arrived to do my twists with extensions.
By Monday they started to unravel I contacted the salon, making them aware and stopped by to see how long it would be to fix the problem. I was able to get the problem addressed the following day. Again, I had to waste my time to do so. If Airana never used the hair this before then it should have been avoided with a direct conversation up front the day of my appointment. Instead of telling me this when I came back to get the problem corrected.
My overall opinion is I hope the next person that decides to visit this salon has a pleasant and better experience than I had. I know for me I can no longer roll the dice on a business that does not value time, produces excuses, lack of time management and business organization.
I purchased a Groupon for this merchant and when I callled you schdule the appointment, I stated purchased a Groupon and wanted to make a appointment, only to be questioned about how much I paid for it. I asked if she did not want to accept it and I was told it was not suppose to be sold and it was expired yet I brought it 3 days ago and it's said on there it expired. APRIL 22 2021. If your business didnt accept it why is in on Groupon.
Update**Owner was definitely not helpful and is only now acting as if she was trying to be helpful. She was mad because of the price of the Groupon
This place gave me a terrible first impression. I’m not from around here but I wanted some to get his hair retwisted and washed and all that stuff for his bday. Even though I called the day before his bday and it was last minute I was given a time to come in. I showed early for the appt with my son, but the lady that was gonna do the job and gave the appt wasn’t even there. There’s was another stylists there, who’s name I don’t know either, but she clearly knew about our appt and even said happy bday to my son. She said the lady confirmed our appt but she was not in.. I waited almost and hour and still nothing.. I then later called their business again, but I was getting nothing but the F U button every time I called. Ya so unprofessional yo I can’t believe ya been in business for 7+ years smh
Found them on google. It was the day of the event. I walked and was able to be serviced the same day....SCORE!!! The stylist has a wonderful personality and the salon was welcoming. HOWEVER... she left for two hours then returned told me she forgot I was waiting after she was called by the staff 2x . Then she charged me a astounding $50 for a simple log twist up...no shampoo, no conditioner.! Great style, poor service, too high!
A chain of events because I kept giving them the benefit of the doubt. First, I schedule a consult and I literally wait 1hr 30 min because she forgot. Second, same lady, braids my hair, not in the style I want and pulls my edges out. (She was fired after that). Third, the owner is great but was late because she was talking to someone she randomly met. She cut all the perm out that day and because She was running so far behind with clients waiting, I still had permed hair left on the tips of the twist and she forgot to do a treatment on me. I came home and cut it myself and took the twist out. No more for me but I do believe the owner is very knowledgeable about hair. Just not very prompt.
Please don't waste your time!!! I had an appointment for Saturday morning which was rescheduled by the technician to Monday at 6 pm. I get to the shop and the door is locked. I called the technician and she sent my phone call to voicemail and isn't answering my text messages. Spend your money with someone considerate of your time. What a joke.
I had a consultation/ starter loc install. I was told I would have to come back because I would need more time than alloyed. So we made an appointment for the next day at 2, for the starter locs. The owner/Loctition saw me walk up to the door to wait for her to finish her conversation. I was a few minutes early, so I stood there patiently waiting. She was sitting in her car talking to a young man and then just drove off. She came back, dropped the man off, looked me in my face and drove right on by. She wouldn’t answer her phone or return my call. If she had some pressing business all she had to do was say so. It would have been more understanding then her just acting as if she didn’t see me at all and definitely wasting my time.
The staff of Nuwbns Hair Care Gallery are extremely professional and courteous. The environment was both welcoming and conducive to the business my family needed. I brought my daughters in for help while they were in my custody over summer vacation (I'm essentially helpless when it comes to their hair). These women are quite knowledgeable and I felt very comfortable leaving the care of my daughters' hair care in their skilled and capable hands.
