Quick Facts About Ocean Fish Bar - Stepney Green
Ocean Fish Bar in Stepney Green has received mostly positive feedback from customers. The strengths of the fish and chip shop include the traditional English fish and chips, the friendly and helpful owner, the reasonable prices, the cleanliness of the shop, and the overall customer experience. However, there are also some weaknesses mentioned, including bland and tasteless food, burnt and dry chicken, bland and boring chips, potential price overcharging, the lack of lunchtime deals, the refusal to accept card payments, and issues with counting cash.
One of the major strengths of Ocean Fish Bar is the quality of their fish and chips. Customers have praised the traditional English flavor and the generous portion sizes. The price of £13.90 for a large fish, chips, bread roll, and two cans of drink is considered a good value for the size and quality of the meal, especially in the context of London's high cost of living. The customer experience at Ocean Fish Bar is also highly rated, with the owner being described as welcoming and helpful.
The cleanliness of the shop is another strength mentioned by customers. The fact that the shop is clean gives customers confidence that the food will be nice and well-prepared. Additionally, the staff are praised for their friendliness and efficiency, making the overall dining experience pleasant.
Despite these positive attributes, there are some weaknesses mentioned by customers. Some reviewers complain about the bland and tasteless food, particularly the curry sauce. Others criticize the burnt and dry chicken, as well as the bland and boring chips that lack flavor even with the addition of salt and vinegar. Price is also a concern for some, with one reviewer stating that the sausage is too expensive compared to other local chip shops.
There are also complaints about potential overcharging and poor customer service. One reviewer claims that the shop added extra charges when purchasing additional items, such as pickle, mayonnaise, or ketchup. This raises concerns about the shop potentially scamming customers for more money. Additionally, the lack of lunchtime deals is mentioned as a negative, with customers feeling that it reflects greed and a lack of consideration for their customers.
Another weakness is the refusal to accept card payments. Some customers speculate that this decision is to avoid paying taxes and VAT, which is seen as illegal. This refusal to accept card payments can be inconvenient for customers who prefer not to carry cash or who do not have immediate access to a cash machine.
Lastly, there are complaints about the cashier's counting and overall service. Some reviewers claim that the cashier made mistakes when counting cash, potentially leading to customers being overcharged. This issue reflects poorly on the business's professionalism and efficiency.
In conclusion, Ocean Fish Bar in Stepney Green has strengths such as traditional fish and chips, friendly staff, reasonable prices, and a clean shop. However, weaknesses include bland and tasteless food, burnt and dry chicken, potential overcharging, the lack of lunchtime deals, the refusal to accept card payments, and issues with counting cash. Despite these weaknesses, the overall customer experience seems to be positive, leading many reviewers to express their intention to return to the fish and chip shop in the future.
Best TL Reviews
Had an appointment across the road at the private hospital, decided to pop in as the smell was appeasing. Best move I made.
The owner is a great chap, very welcoming and helpful.
The fish and chips here is what you call traditional English fish and chips, full of flavour and a very good sized portion.
I had a large fish, chips, bread roll and 2 cans of pop it set be back £13.90. Considering the size it worked out a hell lot cheaper, quality and attentive customer experience than my local chippy.
On the price side of it, it’s actually definitely more than worth it for London and the cost of living.
I would definitely be returning here.
On a final note, the reviews below this are quite funny. They claim this establishment don’t take card payments when incase they actually do take them.
Until next time ????
Great local fish and chip shop. The food is not overly greasy like you can get at some places. The staff were super friendly and quick, and the shop itself is really clean which gives confidence that the food will be nice - which it was. Reasonably priced too, an affordable takeaway. Will definitely be a repeat customer
The original stepney fish and chip shop
Banging chip rolls, battered sausage, fish cake and the cod and chips.
Taste like how a east london fish and chip shop should
I wouldn’t recommend this fish and chip there all food menu is bland and tasteless. The guy who is always behind the counter should be kicked out and us very rude with a condescending attitude and speaks harshly also can be extra sometimes and say irrelevant stuff. Moreover the curry sauce is one of the worst I’ve ever tried from a fish and chip shop
Their chicken is burnt and dry as a dessert, the chips look fresh and clean but it taste bland and boring to eat with no flavour. if you put salt and vinegar it still taste very vile and bland even if you more than require it’s still bland. The Sausages dose taste nice but for the sausage itself it’s too pricey when I can buy the same sausage from another local chippy shop for more cheaper.
I try not to go there it’s not worth giving the cash because once they take the cash you don’t have anything holding you back which means they can scum you and they do by adding 3-5, pounds on the counter when you buy little extra stuff like pickle, mayonnaise, ketchup they do a sneaky price boost and scam you by £3-5 pounds. Although, I am not gonna go back and fourth to a cash machine to draw out £20 and wait in the freezing cold or rain just to draw £20 knowing I had a long day and I knowing there is nothing to eat at home like the chippy shop just giving me stress and expect to come shop and wait another 20 minutes on you to serve other customers who come after me like are you mad
They don’t have lunch time deals either unlike other chippy shop it just dictates greed and just want to collect your money and then forget you.????
Why not have option to pay by card but they refuse that because they want to avoid tax and VAT etc. which is illegal dose time waste your time ????????????
The Chinese fish and chip shop always dose it the best there I said it.
New cashier needed who can count. Not surprised that others were also getting mugged off. Shame because they have nice food and this place is very local. Terrible business model since people would just go there for a battered sausage when they have the EXACT amount in cash. Scummy service from the regular cashier seen 95% of the time.
10/10 Customer Service
10/10 the quality of the food
