Quick Facts About The Black Lion

The Black Lion Pub has many strengths based on the comments provided. One of its main strengths is its reputation as a great pub with good home cooked food. Customers praise the quality of the food, stating that it is delicious and made from scratch. The pub also offers a fantastic choice of food items including main meals, wraps, baguettes, toasted sandwiches, and oatcakes. The variety of options and the reasonable prices make it an attractive dining option for many customers.
Another strength of The Black Lion is its live entertainment on some Saturdays. Customers appreciate the good quality live performances, which add to the overall experience of the pub. Additionally, the pub is considered welcoming and atmospheric at night, with lanterns lighting up the exterior. This creates an inviting ambiance that customers enjoy when passing through or staying for the night.
The pub is also praised for its friendly and helpful bar staff. Customers mention that the staff members are pleasant and make the experience enjoyable. This friendly atmosphere is further enhanced by the cleanliness of the establishment. Multiple comments highlight that the pub is tidy and clean, which contributes to a positive overall experience.
The recent refurbishment of The Black Lion is another strength that is mentioned. This refurbishment has enhanced the historic pub, making it more visually appealing. The addition of a beer garden, sheltered smoking area, and children's play area also adds value to the pub. These outdoor spaces provide additional options for customers to enjoy their time at the pub, especially families with children. Furthermore, the pub boasts good parking facilities, which is an added convenience for customers.
Although there are several strengths mentioned, there are also a few weaknesses that can be considered. One comment mentions that the pub is slightly dated, suggesting that some areas of the establishment may need updating. However, despite this, it is also mentioned that the pub is very clean, which serves as a counterbalance to the dated appearance.
Another weakness mentioned is the limited selection of real ale. Customers point out that there is only one real ale available, which is Abbot. This may disappoint avid ale enthusiasts who prefer a wider selection to choose from. However, it is not explicitly stated whether other drink options, such as lagers or spirits, are offered in abundance.
In summary, The Black Lion Pub carries several strengths. It is praised for its great pub atmosphere, good home cooked food, and reasonable prices. The pub's live entertainment, friendly staff, and recent refurbishment also contribute positively to the customer experience. While the pub may be slightly dated and has a limited real ale selection, it is still considered clean and offers a good variety of mainstream drink options. Overall, The Black Lion Pub seems to be a well-liked establishment with a lot to offer its customers.
