Quick Facts About The Black Lion

The Black Lion place, based on the comments provided, has several strengths that make it a popular and well-regarded pub. These strengths can be summarized as follows:
1. Quality Food: Multiple comments mention the good quality of the food served at The Black Lion. The steak and ale pie, pulled pork bap, and fish and chips are specifically praised. The use of homemade ingredients and the good portion sizes contribute to the positive dining experience.
2. Warm and Welcoming Atmosphere: The pub is described as having a lovely warm atmosphere and a friendly staff. Customers feel welcomed and enjoy the ambiance, particularly the roaring fires during colder months. This creates a comfortable environment for both regular customers and newcomers to the area.
3. Range and Quality of Beverages: The Black Lion offers a variety of ales, including some that are highly regarded. Many customers appreciate the quality of the beer served and enjoy having a decent pint. This makes the pub a popular choice among beer enthusiasts.
4. Outdoor Seating: The availability of outdoor seating is a strength, especially during the summer months when customers can enjoy their drinks and meals outside. This allows customers to make the most of good weather and adds to the overall experience of visiting the pub.
5. Reasonable Prices: The pub's prices are considered reasonable, and customers appreciate getting good value for their money. This is important to many people, as it encourages repeat visits and creates a positive perception of the establishment.
6. Prompt and Efficient Service: The staff at The Black Lion are praised for their friendliness and efficiency. Customers feel well-attended to and appreciate the timely service provided. This contributes to a positive overall experience and encourages customers to return.
7. Entertainment Options: The availability of a big screen for watching matches and tapas nights on Thursdays adds an extra dimension to The Black Lion's appeal. It attracts customers who value a pub that offers additional entertainment options beyond food and drink.
Despite these strengths, there are also a few notable weaknesses that can be identified based on the comments provided:
1. Booking Required: Several comments mention the popularity of The Black Lion, often noting that reservations are required. While this demonstrates the pub's appeal, it may be seen as a drawback for spontaneous visits, particularly for those who prefer not to plan in advance.
2. Limited Seating: One comment mentions not to sit in the two seats by the log fire, as the commenter intends to visit. This suggests that seating options may be limited in the pub, especially during peak times. The limited seating could potentially create a crowded and less comfortable experience for customers.
3. Lack of Recent Visit: Although many positive comments were made, one comment notes that the commenter had not been to The Black Lion for years. This may indicate that the pub has struggled to consistently attract customers or maintain a loyal customer base. It could suggest a need for ongoing efforts to attract and retain patrons.
In conclusion, The Black Lion place is a popular and well-regarded pub that offers quality food, a warm atmosphere, a range of beverages, and efficient service. It benefits from outdoor seating, reasonable prices, and additional entertainment options. However, the popularity of the pub requires booking in advance, there may be limited seating availability, and attracting consistent customers could be an ongoing challenge.

Paid my first visit to the pub today at lunchtime, we sat outside with it being a nice day, had a pint of Wainwright beer and ordered the steak and ale pie. A friend had the pulled pork bap. Both were very good! My steak pie had good chunks of steak. One of the best pies I've had, the chips were chunky and the onion rings homemade. Will definitely be back.
Absolutely love this place, lovely warm atmosphere and welcome from all the staff. We've recently moved to the area, husband loves the ales, the food is great. Reasonably priced and plenty of it. Always need to book as it's popular. Can't wait for the summer when we can sit outside also. Love it.
Amazing local pub. Roaring fires and a decent pint with friendly staff. The food is also really nice if you fancy a quick bite. I would highly recommend ????
By far the best pub in the area and very lucky to have it as my local. They have the best ale, a range of great nibbles, the best sweet mix :) and tasty home cooked food. The barman, Tom, also makes me a great cuppa to accompany my late night cheese board! Cheers!
Great Country Pub . Staff are friendly and efficient.
Tonight we sampled Fish Friday and it was the best fish and chips ever .
Would highly recommend this place for a Meal or just pop in for a drink you will be made most welcome .
Please don’t have the two seats by the log fire if you go just in case we pop in ????
A fantastic country pub. Good food (especially fish n’ chips Fridays”, friendly locals, and great beer. Fantastic to sit outside on a summer evening, and just as good to cozy up around a roaring fire during the winter.
Not been for years and the transformation is a joy. A warm welcome and lovely decor. Upstairs room is brilliant for watching the big screen matches. The food looked delicious. Will return and eat next time.
