Quick Facts About The Old Ship

The Old Ship is a pub with a picturesque setting and offers free parking. It has a nice view of the busy port with plenty of passing white boats, and customers can enjoy this view while sipping on perfectly chilled Peroni beer. The atmosphere in the pub is described as calm and relaxed, making it a pleasant place to visit. Customers are also recommended to try the freshly made food, such as the home lasagna, Whitebait, and Fish and chips, which are all described as delicious.
One of the strengths of The Old Ship is the convenience of free parking. This can be a major advantage for customers who are driving, as parking can sometimes be difficult to find in popular tourist areas. The nice view of the busy port is also a strength, as it adds to the overall ambiance of the pub and provides something visually appealing for customers to enjoy. Additionally, the relaxed and calm atmosphere is another strength of The Old Ship, as it creates a comfortable and enjoyable environment for customers.
Another strength of The Old Ship is the quality of the freshly made food. The home lasagna, Whitebait, and Fish and chips are all described as delicious, indicating that the pub takes pride in its food offerings. This can be a major draw for customers, as good food is often an important factor in choosing a place to eat. The pub is also recommended to everyone who seeks nice views and chilled drinks, which suggests that the overall experience at The Old Ship is positive.
However, there are also weaknesses mentioned in the comments. One weakness is the sticky tables inside the pub. While they may not appear dirty, they have a sticky feel that resembles pubs from 30 years ago. This can be off-putting to customers and may indicate a lack of cleanliness or maintenance in the pub. Another weakness is the quality of the food. One customer describes the burgers as basic and not up to pub standard, while another mentions that the beans on the kids' meal had formed a skin and tasted like cheap beans. These comments suggest that the food at The Old Ship may not meet expectations and may not be good value for money.
Another weakness mentioned is the characterless pub/cafe vibe inside The Old Ship. One customer describes it as lacking in personality and resembling a generic establishment. This can detract from the overall experience and make the pub feel less unique or special. Updating the decor is suggested to address this weakness and make the pub more visually appealing.
Despite these weaknesses, there are also positive comments about The Old Ship. The staff are praised for being friendly and polite, and the service is described as great. The prices are mentioned as reasonable, both for the drinks and the food. The pub is also recommended for families, as there is a lot to do in the area and the menu offers options suitable for children. The pub dog is also mentioned as a positive aspect, as it adds to the friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
In conclusion, The Old Ship has strengths such as free parking, a nice view of the busy port, a relaxed atmosphere, and delicious freshly made food. However, it also has weaknesses including sticky tables, basic and disappointing food, and a characterless interior. The overall experience at The Old Ship seems to be mixed, with some customers enjoying their visit while others were less satisfied. Addressing the weaknesses mentioned, such as improving cleanliness and updating the decor, may help to enhance the overall experience at The Old Ship.

The Old Ship welcomes us with free parking, nice view of the busy port with plenty of passing white boats. We enjoyed the view with perfectly chilled Peroni beer in that hit day. After emptying the glass we get hungry so decided to order some freshly made food. My son order freshly made home lasagna, my wife choose the Whitebait which was very tasty and made from fresh fish, I ended with classic Fish and chips which was delicious. The atmosphere in The Old Ship was calm and relaxed. I recommend this pub to everyone who seeks nice views and chilled drinks.
We were going to go to the Jolly Sailor but it was super busy and looked to have a function on, so we parked and went up to the Old Ship. This was a mistake. Pleasant enough setting but inside resembles a characterless pub / cafe vibe. We needed to eat so took a table inside and grabbed menus. The tables were sticky. Like, the menu stuck to them sticky. The drinks stuck to them sticky. They didn't look dirty at all, but the tables were the sticky feel from pubs 30 years ago.
The menu is fine - and we ordered a couple of burgers, some chicken etc. Food took a fair while to come - but it was pretty busy as it was a nice day, so no big surprise on the timing. When it arrived it was pretty disappointing. The burgers were very basic bog standard burgers you would get in a village fete food stand. Not pub standard and certainly not value for money. The chips were ok, but nothing to write home about. The chicken wasn't terrible, but there wasn't much of it. The beans on the kids meal had formed a skin by the time it got to us and tasted like cheap beans you get when at a school field trip. It was all edible, but pretty "meh" aws the teenager of the group would say. If it was a few quid cheaper per meal you would have written it off, but considering some of the pubs in the area are about the same price - the quality just wasn't there. Won't go back to this one.
Came here after a long walk, fancied something to eat with a friend, we had Tuna mayo baguette and cheesy chips, I hadn't read it already came with chips ????‍♀️ but it tasted so good, we scoffed the lot!! We both had gin & Lemonade which had to be in pint glasses as the gin glasses keep going 'missing' leave them there people!! Great service and the weather was surprisingly warm so got to eat outside which is always lovely ???? didn't take photos of food which was presentable, but look at the views from their tables
Lovely pub in a picturesque setting… we only popped in for a pint after a long walk, sat outside with the dog, staff seemed friendly and polite, can’t complain ????????
Found this place on Google Maps and used Google Navigation to get there on our Motorcycles, found it no problem, but to all bikers take a stand pad as the carpark surface is gravel.
Went in and was greeted with a friendly welcome and asked what we'd like, had Half a Maldon Gold, Diet Coke and 2 bags of Walkers finest. Prices were what you'd expect for a pub on a tourist spot and they know how to look after the Beer.
Found a table in the corner by the window overlooking the Basin and kicked back n let the world pass by. While sat there food was served at another table and looked reallly good for Burgers n chips etc(Mums with kids so nothing fancy) and the prices a reasonable too.
The view is just lovely and is on a Coastal path so loads of people passing by and can be a little busy and it's good for Families too as theres a lot to do around the Pub.
Really enjoyable place to visit, value at the bar and value from the kitchen, good location, clean and tidy, just could do with updating the Decore and the Pub Dog is lovely and likes a fuss.
I'll be going back on a sunny day when the tide is high and have a beer and a bite, see you all there soon.
Great staff and the food was great too. Had steak and ale pie for lunch with sticky toffee pudding. Great location with nice views. Definitely go back
Nice picturesque place to go for a relaxing views over Heybridge Basin. Definitely worth a visit. The scampi and chips looked amazing. We didn't eat, but all the food being served looked really tasty. We will be going back for a meal soon.
Nice pub, fabulous location on a nice summer day. Even better when the tide is in.
Have taken several people from outside the area to The Old Ship and they have all loved it.
