Quick Facts About Westward Ho! Beach

Westward Ho! Beach, located in the town of Westward Ho! in North Devon, is a popular tourist destination known for its stunning views, sandy beach, and opportunities for wildlife observation. However, it also has some weaknesses, particularly in terms of accessibility and potential overcrowding.
One of the greatest strengths of Westward Ho! Beach is its natural beauty. The beach boasts a long stretch of sand, which is perfect for sunbathing, sandcastle-building, and taking leisurely walks. At low tide, there is also a rocky area with small water pools, providing the opportunity to observe and explore marine life such as crabs and small fish. Additionally, the beach is located by the Celtic Sea, allowing visitors to enjoy swimming and other water activities.
Another strength of Westward Ho! Beach is its relatively low level of crowding. Despite being a typical tourist town, visitors note that the beach does not often feel too crowded or overpopulated. This provides a more relaxed and peaceful atmosphere, which many people appreciate when seeking a beach getaway.
The beach also benefits from its proximity to other attractions and amenities. There are numerous food options available nearby, offering visitors a variety of choices for meals and snacks. In addition, there are several walking paths and nature reserves in the area, providing opportunities for outdoor exploration and beautiful views of the coastline. Overall, these amenities add value to the beach experience and enhance the overall enjoyment of visitors.
However, there are some weaknesses to consider when evaluating Westward Ho! Beach. Perhaps the most pronounced issue is the lack of disabled-friendly access for the dog-friendly part of the beach. Visitors with mobility limitations, such as walking stick users, face challenges when accessing this section of the beach due to a steep and potentially dangerous ramp. This lack of accessibility prevents some individuals from fully enjoying the beach and its amenities.
Additionally, the beach's popularity can lead to overcrowding, especially during the summer months. While some visitors appreciate the lively atmosphere, others may find it overwhelming or inconvenient. The limited parking during peak season can also be a drawback, as finding a parking spot can be challenging and time-consuming for some visitors.
Despite these weaknesses, Westward Ho! Beach remains a highly recommended destination due to its natural beauty, relative lack of overcrowding, and access to various amenities. The stunning views, sandy beach, and opportunities for wildlife observation make it a favorite among locals and tourists alike. However, improvements should be made to ensure better accessibility for individuals with disabilities, and measures to manage overcrowding during peak periods should be considered. Overall, Westward Ho! Beach offers a memorable and enjoyable beach experience for visitors of all ages.

Lovely beach with beautiful views, however the part that dogs can go on is not disabled friendly access! The ramp down is extremely steep, and I almost fell down it a number of times whilst I was going down with help. I am a walking stick user, so this was very difficult.
Once I had got down onto the beach and allowed my pains to settle down I enjoyed a stroll with my dog.
I don't know what the nondog area of the beach is like for accessibility.
Leading to the beach, the parking area and the golf course is shared with sheep. This was quite the novelty for this town girl all the way from London area! I really loved it!!
The dog section of the beach has got a4 star review purely because it's not disabled friendly to get down onto the beach.
Have included photos of the beach, and a few photos of the sheep in the surrounding area.
What an awesome beach! Some easy parking nearby off season but can be busy during the summer. Plenty of little places to buy food. Nice walks nearby. Great views of the coastline. We haven’t been in the sea here but waves look special.
Our local beach, so I maybe a bit biased but, this is a great beach to visit. The sunsets are amazing as it sets behind Lundy Island in the summer, or, in line with the rock pools at winter. Plenty of photos to take at the North end of the beach where the water and beach sports take place.
Beautiful beach. Parking available at Northam Burrows. Can be busy in summer. But some beautiful wallks to be had
Recently visited this beach...Was Beautiful very clean ???????? The only thing we was enjoying ourselves in the water massive waves ????...We didn't hear the warning for the tide coming in...Nearly lost everything...Thanks to a lovely lady she rescued our bag's so grateful.
