2. Service: Many reviewers highlight the excellent service provided by the staff at Barshu Restaurant. Comments mention that the staff is attentive, accommodating, and takes good care of customers. The ordering system, where customers use a tick sheet, is also appreciated for its convenience.
3. Ambience and Environment: The restaurant is described as having a pleasant and elegant atmosphere, which adds to the overall dining experience. The location, just across the street from Chinatown, is also seen as a positive aspect.
4. Extensive Menu: Barshu Restaurant offers an extensive menu with a variety of dishes, including options that customers may not have tried or seen before. The menu is described as easy to navigate, thanks to the tick sheet ordering system and pictures that assist customers in making their selections.
5. Catering to Different Dietary Preferences: The restaurant offers vegan and vegetarian options, which is commended by reviewers. The labeling of these options makes it easier for customers with specific dietary preferences to find suitable dishes.
Weaknesses of Barshu Restaurant:
1. Price: Some comments mention that the restaurant can be quite expensive, especially if customers are not careful with their orders. While sharing dishes and opting for vegan/vegetarian options can help manage costs, drinks are often noted as particularly expensive. The higher prices compared to other Chinese restaurants in Soho is also mentioned.
2. Spiciness of some Dishes: A few reviewers express that some dishes at Barshu Restaurant can be quite spicy, with one commenter finding the Szechuan chicken almost inedible due to an overpowering amount of peppercorn. While this might be appealing to some customers who enjoy spicy food, it may deter others.
3. Noise Level: One comment mentions that the restaurant can get pretty noisy upstairs, which might affect the overall dining experience for some customers.
4. Limited Availability of Unique Dish: While the inclusion of a unique dish, the fermented grouper, is seen as a strength, it is noted that the restaurant only offers 10 fishes per day from Monday to Thursday. This limited availability may disappoint potential customers who specifically visit for this dish.
In conclusion, Barshu Restaurant has several strengths that contribute to its positive reputation, including the quality of its food, excellent service, pleasant ambience, extensive menu, and catering to different dietary preferences. However, it also has some weaknesses, such as the higher prices, spiciness of some dishes, potential noise levels, and limited availability of a unique dish. Despite these weaknesses, the overall feedback for Barshu Restaurant remains largely positive, making it a recommended option for those seeking authentic and delicious Sichuan cuisine.

Best TL Reviews

Been here a few times and it's always amazing. Lots of vegan options and they're clearly labelled too.
If you aren't careful you can end up spending quite a lot, but we find that if you get a few dishes to share and some boiled rice, you can keep it to around £25 a head. Obviously the vegan/vegetarian dishes are more affordable. Drinks are expensive but that's the same everywhere in this area.
Service is really good and all the staff are very attentive. I like the ordering system too, you get a piece of paper to write everything on instead of having to memorise your order.
Very nice restaurant with an extensive menu. Ordering is easy with the tick sheet. Service is fast and no nonsense. Food is very good and there's lots of things you might never have tried or seen. Some of the flavours were a bit bold for me, but that's up to the person.
We paid £150 for 5 people including alcohol.
One of the oldest Sichuan Restaurant in London, opened at 2006.
They have a unique fermented fish dish named 臭鳜鱼(Fermented Mandarin Fish) but it's using grouper instead of mandarin fish, because it's easier to get.
So far Barshu is the only place have this dish in London, they only offer 10 fishes per day Monday to Thursday, guess it's for marketing reason, it's a unique selling point to drive customers in low seasons.
Most dishes are quite good apart from fried mushrooms.
Environment was nice and elegant therefore price is a bit higher than Chinatown.
The fried rice and beans were delicious but the Szechuan chicken was almost inedible. WAY too much peppercorn in the dish itself. I love spicy food, but this is just not the best way to prepare this type of dish. They could’ve used the peppercorns to flavor the oil the chicken and peppers were cooked in instead. Very good service though.
Delicious, authentic, Sichuan food. Plenty of options to suit all palates, good quantities and easy to order with the pictures on the menu. Extremely busy staff with a full house but they took good care of me, making sure I was warm enough and had everything I need.
Not the cheapest place, and it can get pretty noisy upstairs... But beyond that 10/10. INCREDIBLE food and absolutely top tier service in a great location just across the street from China town proper.
If you like Sichuan food, go here. You will not be disappointed.
Booked for a dinner on Thursday and this place was full. Recommend booking a table in advance!
Foods were yummy but a little bit pricy than the other Chinese restaurants in Soho. But at the same time, Barshu has bigger tables and good vibe
