Quick Facts About Calais Motor Inn
Calais Motor Inn has a mixed set of strengths and weaknesses, as reflected in the comments provided.
Starting with the strengths, the motel seems to have a friendly and humorous staff, as mentioned by multiple reviewers. The front desk personnel were described as kind, funny, and sweet, which can contribute to a positive experience for guests. Additionally, the restaurant at the inn received positive feedback in terms of the food quality. One reviewer even regarded the food as some of the best they had ever had. This suggests that the restaurant is a strong point of the motel, potentially attracting customers from outside as well.
Furthermore, the motel was praised for its reasonable pricing. One person mentioned that the cost for parking their RV in the RV lot was extremely reasonable. This affordability may appeal to budget-conscious travelers who are looking for a cost-effective place to stay. Additionally, the ease of access and level parking lot were seen as positive aspects for those traveling with RVs.
On the other hand, some significant weaknesses were highlighted in the comments as well. Several reviewers expressed disappointment with the overall condition and cleanliness of the rooms. Issues such as rust stained tubs, water stained carpeting, and chipped toilet seats were mentioned, indicating a lack of proper maintenance. Moreover, one reviewer mentioned that the rooms smelled bad and the carpets were filthy, suggesting poor hygiene standards. The need for major updates in terms of room decor and comfort was also mentioned by another guest.
Another common complaint was related to the lack of amenities and services. One reviewer expressed disappointment with the absence of coffee in the rooms and lobby, which they found unusual. This could be seen as a weakness for guests who value having a coffee option available throughout their stay. Additionally, there were no discounts offered, including senior or AARP discounts, which may be perceived as a drawback for guests expecting savings or special rates.
Inconsistent experiences with staff were also highlighted in the comments. While some guests praised the staff for being friendly and helpful, others expressed frustration with their interactions. One guest mentioned a mix-up at check-in, while another experienced rude and unhelpful behavior from an employee named Gwen. These instances suggest inconsistencies in staff performance, which can affect the overall guest experience.
From the comments provided, it can be concluded that while Calais Motor Inn has some positive aspects, such as friendly staff and a good restaurant, there are several weaknesses that need to be addressed. These weaknesses include issues with room cleanliness and maintenance, the lack of amenities, and inconsistencies in staff performance. Taking steps to address these areas of improvement could enhance the overall guest experience and contribute to the overall success of the motel.
Best TL Reviews
Wir übernachten bei unseren Reisen durch die US sehr oft in Motels und werden selten enttäuscht. Dieses Motel sieht von außen ganz gut aus, aber die Zimmer sind fast nicht zumutbar. Schade.
Stayed here almost a year ago and never left my glowing review of this amazing place! Spent a week here while it was -15 out and had the most wonderful week in this town! The front was kind and hilarious, pub downstairs was some of the best food I ever had! We already are talking about when to come back again!
Rust stained tub, water stained carpeting, toilet seat all chipped and sink, and pub downstairs was smelly and food was over cooked and not made right. High prices for lousy food.
Portable heater OK if you are a minimalist! 20° outside, the room had heat but did not work. Ended up getting a small portable heater from the front desk, didn’t quite do the job! What was most disappointing - no coffee no coffee no coffee anywhere! Not in the room not in the lobby no coffee. Who ever heard of such a thing.
Price was not worth the stay! No discounts, Senior, AARP, nothing nothing.
We didn't actually stay in a room at the Inn, we parked our class A RV in their RV lot to spend two nights. People at the desk were friendly and funny and the cost was extremely reasonable. Easy in and out at the RV lot and pretty level. Near a small highway, but low noise level was more than acceptable. No sewer or water hookups, only electric, but worked out well since we knew that ahead of time and were prepared for dry docking.
Mary was a SWEETHEART! VERY helpful, got us into a room when we called the morning of the 3rd before HUGE STORM. Got there later that night, not sure WHO was at desk but had NO IDEA where our key was THOUGHT we had already checked in even though said we were checking in. Room was ok, nice big space, definitely could be updated as looks from 70s. Had part of the wall patched and had HUGE blast of cold air coming in. But turned heat all the way up and at least was not to bad. Restaurant had KILLER FOOD but the staff were a bit flighty. Wife ordered meatloaf and got mozzarella sticks.... Leaving was fine but JUST CALLED BACK AND SPOKE WITH GWEN TO SEE IF WE HAD LEFT WIFES GLASSES THERE BY MISTAK.E Spoke with Gwen whom said she had NO IDEA, wife said Oh... was then told NONE of housekeeping had been in today, date being the fifth of Feb. Gwen then proceeded to ask if wanted her to check. Wife said would you mind? Gwen responded with YES but I will, call me back! NOT IMPRESSED WITH THIS GWEN AT ALL, wife feels so offended not even funny. Sad thing our room is less then 30 steps from the front desk!!! TRULY SORRY TO HAVE BOTHERED YOU GWEN. Guess will be staying at the international Inn across the road from now on! REALLY sad because we have ALWAYS had great service before, of course last time was there was over five years ago, time changes everything I guess.
This place needs a major update! Rooms smell really bad, beds are super uncomfortable, carpets are filthy. Apparently they allow pets so it smell like dog and cat pee right when you walk in. I can handle old but the dirty I definitely can’t handle. If you haven’t had the Rona yet you just might get it from the motel ????
Staple of the community. The building is a little older, but you can tell that it's loved and has definitely seen a lot of good times. Friendly staff, clean rooms and the restaurant had a great burger and fries.
