I went to Moda Hair Salon for the first time today and was extremely satisfied with my experience (my two friends also got their hair cut with Henri and were equally pleased with their experience). Henri is kind, respectful, and a master at his craft! I love my haircut and highly recommend this place :)
This was my first time going to a salon by myself and my second time going to a salon and it was so worth it. I'm so in love with my hair they got me so right and the staff if really welcoming and friendly. These pictures are a couple hours after the cut and it was just so perfect for Valentine's day.
The owner Natalie never bothered showing up on the day of my follow-up appointment as she had stated. The hair stylist, Evelyn, ruined my hair further instead of fixing their mistake from my prior visit. I had asked for my usual yet she and Natalie had taken it upon themselves to use a different brand and shade for my hair color while adamantly telling me otherwise (I later understood the reason for their odd emphasis of this was that they were being misleading). The color they used didn’t stick. My roots had also been left exposed to the point where it looked like they had already grown out. I reached out and provided a photo of this to have both issues fixed at which point Natalie apologized and requested I return on a specific day when she would be present. I agreed and when I went back, she never turned up.
When I returned, Evelyn was very combative regarding the issue with the roots having been left so long. As she started the color again, it was only at this stage that I was informed, in a not-so-forthright manner, that they had used their all-natural brand instead (which they were aware hadn’t worked on me before). At that point, it made sense that the deposited, wrong color wasn’t holding just as it hadn’t the only other time they had used it. While remaining vague, she also harped on about how she couldn’t understand why no one else had complained of that dye not working but that maybe it was because they were “college students” (since it’s a college town despite their prices being so high). I’m not sure how many people get their full head dyed raspberry. She and Natalie shouldn’t have applied it again as another trial of their all-natural Aveda product, while adamantly claiming to be using my regular color which had worked consistently and had been clearly agreed on. If I wanted to be a test subject, I would go to Aveda Institute and pay 1/4 of what I do at this salon. This created the same bad outcome as before along with stress and added time for me which Natalie didn’t respect either.
On my end, I do everything correctly after any color treatment including waiting even longer than time indicated before first wash, using only cold water, etc… Explanations already given before that were clearly overlooked. This had obviously been successful with the right color which they falsely claimed to be using.
To fix my roots, Evelyn then proceeded to unnecessarily overexaggerate by applying color directly on my scalp, leaving a very unnatural look as others could notice too. When I reached out to Natalie regarding this, I was blatantly ignored.
The staff at this salon addresses concerns created by them in a retaliatory, unhelpful manner. They have no integrity and are disrespectful all around even to a loyal customer who always tipped well. I was a regular and my friends were potential clients too. This experience has been very disappointing. Their whole demeanor is a front and they have no true sense of professionalism.
At this stage, I have taken my business to a different Moda salon, Moda 330 in Rahway, where they are a lot more professional as well as reasonably priced. Additionally, they listen to any and all customer feedback and aren’t intentionally misleading.
I mean the haircuts are just not good. They were better in the past, but I just can’t go here ever again. The last time I got a cut I had to wear a hat for 2 weeks until my hair grew out normal again.
Such a great salon. Great styling by the most professional staff. This was my 2nd visit but definitely won’t be my last.

I'm a freshman at Rutgers and I was nervous to get my hair cut someplace new but Moda went above and beyond. I went there about a month ago and Henri gave me the best haircut I've ever had. I went back in again today to get my bangs trimmed and he did a fantastic job once again! Everyone who works there is very friendly, and both times that I went I've had a great experience. Highly recommend!!
