Quick Facts About Opposites Dominican Salon
Opposites Dominican Salon appears to have a mix of positive and negative reviews, highlighting both strengths and weaknesses of the salon.
Starting with the strengths, several customers praised the stylists at Opposites, particularly one named Em, who was able to achieve long, healthy, and silky hair for one customer. This positive experience led one customer to declare Opposites their salon for life.
However, the weaknesses of the salon are also apparent in the comments. One customer had a particularly negative experience after their regular stylist died due to COVID-19. They visited the salon and had their hair done by a new stylist who claimed to be knowledgeable about natural hair and products. Unfortunately, this customer experienced extreme heat damage, hair falling out, and the smell of burnt hair. This resulted in them having to start over with their natural hair journey, causing them significant distress.
Another weakness highlighted by a customer was the lack of attentiveness and professionalism from the owner or manager of the salon. During their visit, the stylist used a clunky wooden brush that caused pain and hair loss. When the customer tried to explain this, the stylist became defensive and displayed an attitude. This lack of empathy and refusal to listen to the customer's concerns is a significant weakness and could lead to a loss of trust and future business.
The salon's adherence to COVID-19 guidelines also appears to be a weakness. One customer specifically mentioned making an appointment and requesting a particular hair relaxer product, but upon arrival, the salon did not have the requested product available. Additionally, the customer observed the salon accepting walk-in appointments and noted that there was only one stylist working, raising concerns about the salon's ability to handle the workload. This customer also questioned whether the stylists at Opposites are licensed, which could be a potential weakness in terms of professionalism and expertise.
Another weakness mentioned by a customer was the lack of clarity in pricing. The customer felt ripped off when they were charged extra for a deep conditioner without being properly informed of the additional cost. This lack of transparency and customer service left a negative impression and resulted in the customer deciding not to return to the salon.
Finally, a customer described a negative experience where they were under the dryer for an excessive amount of time, resulting in a scab on their scalp from the heat. This suggests a weakness in the salon's time management and attention to client comfort and safety.
In conclusion, while Opposites Dominican Salon has received positive feedback regarding their stylists' skills and abilities, there appear to be significant weaknesses within the salon. These weaknesses include inconsistent service quality, lack of professionalism, poor adherence to COVID-19 guidelines, unclear pricing, and negligence in client care. Addressing these weaknesses could improve the overall customer experience and potentially attract more loyal customers in the future.

Love ‘Em and all of the stylist at Opposites. Em had my hair down my back. And my hair is so healthy and silky. My salon for life
Would not recommend to my worse enemy! The lady that normally did my hair died due to covid and the new girl in there ( somebody I never saw before) assured me that she knew all about natural hair and products. My hair smelt burnt and when I washed it I had extreme! Extreme! heat damage to the point my hair was falling out . It seemed like my hair had got a perm the way it smelled and didn’t revert back. I literally cried!! I’m trying to grow out the damage before I cut it but I worked so hard on my natural hair just for me to have to start over! Don’t go to this salon!!!
I used to like this place and didn't mind passing other shops to get there. I just wanted my hair washed and dried, I wasn't in any hurry but they didn't know that. Had me sit there for about an hour, then when the owner/manager decided to blow dry my hair she used this big clunky wooden brush and was trying to brush my hair from the roots without even detangling it. When I let her know that it was hurting and that I didn't use that type of brush because it pulls my hair out she tried to explain to me that it was a brush for natural hair and got an attitude with me. When a customer is trying to explain that something hurts or is not working she should listen and maybe she will learn something, all hair can not be manipulated the same way and hair on a human head is not the same as the hair on the mannequin. I don't mind spending my money but this place will never get anymore of my money, I'm all for women's power and supporting each other, however when you are in the public providing a service please be careful how you treat your customers. I hope no one else has this experience and I hope she changes her attitude.
Per Covid guidelines, I called and made an appointment. I told the person that I wanted an Affirm relaxer and he assured me that they had it. It was also advertised on the online booking tool. However when I arrived, they did not have it. I had to drive to the beauty supply store to get my own. Also, the shop took several walkin appointments while I was there. There was one stylist working on a Saturday, who I’d never seen there before and I have been going for almost two years. Each time I go, there is someone new. I’m not even sure if they are licensed. She was rushing through each client. First she didn’t put any base on my scalp before I prompted her to do so and then she left my relaxer on for way too long. I had to remind her to wash it out. She did an entire blowout while it was sitting. When she washed it out, she rinsed it once, shampooed once, and put conditioner on my hair and had me sit for like 45 min while she took like three more clients. When she got back to me she tried to wash my conditioner out and be done. I reminded her that she had only shampooed my hair once and I had received a relaxer! She insisted she had done it three times but she did not. At the end my hair turned out nice but I think I may have to wash it again myself to be on the safe side because I can still smell the perm smh.
Visited this salon in hopes to get my hair blown out for the first time in five years... resulted in extreme heat damage and excessive hair loss. My hair stunk of chemicals or heat for a month and I didn’t ask for any straightening agents other than what allows for a blowout! I have just recently did the big chop because it couldn’t be fixed. Owner reached out to me for a consultation AFTER my hair had been falling out but there was absolutely nothing she could have done to repair it. Extremely upset and now bald.. But Im rocking my cut regardless.
I booked my appointment online through google, when I arrived Emily's assistant braided my hair down. Emily informed me that the google system does not notify her when people book online but she slayed my hair anyway. She was very professional and knowledgeable will definitely be going back for installs and maintenance.
Overall it was a descent experience until I got ripped off. Also, the google pictures of the salon are misleading. It does not look like that in there, meaning it's not that descent looking, and it smelled. I went today 3/21/17, it was $10 off. After the lady washed my hair, she asked if I wanted conditioner, I replied yes assuming it was the normal shampoo and conditioner that I get from my usual hair stylist. Once my hair was styled and I went to pay, the lady charged me 40 dollars. I thought it was 30$ but then her ass told me that I was charged 10$ for the deep conditioner. I told her that I shouldn't be charged because she did not clearly specify that when she asked if I wanted condition and that service of a "deep conditioner" is an extra charge . I told her she should mentioned that it was an additional charge when she asked me. But she decided to tell me that I should have looked at the price. Her simple ass failed to realize I didn't know what a deep conditioner was, so looking at prices would not have mattered. It would have be good customer service to not charge me considering the fact that I was a new customer, but she did not. I will NOT be going back there. My hair is nice, but there are plenty in the area that I can choose from. Goodbye bye Nola's Dominican hair salon. The rip-off is not worth going back. She did not receive a tip as a result.
I have been going to this salon for years. I don't know how many times the owners have changed, but I never had any problems. I went there in November, then went last week and different owner was there. I should have considered not staying when I noticed it was only one stylist there. And there were at least 6 people in there either under the dryer or getting their hair washed. I was washed and put under the dryer. After about 40 minutes the stylist came and put on time on the dryer. I was under the dryer for almost 2 hours. When I got in the
stylist chair she was done in about 15 minutes. In 2 days my hair had no curl and I have a very large scab from the heat from the dryer. That is my last trip there.
