Quick Facts About Shanghai Express
Shanghai Express has a combination of strengths and weaknesses based on the comments provided.
Starting with the strengths, one of the positive aspects of the restaurant is its hidden location. While some may find it challenging to locate, others might see it as an exclusive and hidden gem. Additionally, the small yellow sign adds to its allure and uniqueness.
Moreover, the comment highlights that the restaurant was able to accommodate the customers, even on a busy Friday night, showcasing its efficiency in managing reservations and customer flow. The service is also mentioned to be friendly and attentive, indicating that the staff is well-trained and provides a satisfactory dining experience.
Furthermore, the food quality is praised in multiple comments. It is described as excellent and very good, suggesting that the restaurant delivers delicious dishes that meet customers' expectations. This positive feedback demonstrates the capability of the kitchen staff in preparing tasty Chinese cuisine.
On the other hand, there are several weaknesses that need to be addressed. One recurring criticism is the lack of unique flavors in the dishes. Customers mention that the food is average and lacking significant flavors. This indicates a potential weakness in the culinary creativity and menu development of the restaurant.
Additionally, some customers express dissatisfaction with the level of service and atmosphere. One comment mentions that the restaurant only allows takeout despite advertising dine-in options, leading to a lack of ambiance and reduced service. This inconsistency could be a weakness in terms of customer experience and meeting their expectations.
Another significant weakness highlighted in one comment is the serious concerns regarding hygiene standards. Mentioning dust, unclean carpets, and an uncertain state of the kitchen, it raises questions about the overall cleanliness and sanitation practices of the restaurant. Hygiene is crucial in the food industry, and any shortcomings in this area may seriously affect the reputation and credibility of the establishment.
Furthermore, negative reviews mentioning overpriced and dire food raise concerns about the value for money offered by the restaurant. If customers perceive the pricing as high without receiving an exceptional dining experience, it may impact their willingness to return.
Lastly, there is a comment mentioning a specific issue with an incorrect order. The restaurant was criticized for serving a different dish than what was advertised on their website. This mismatch of expectations can lead to customer disappointment and a negative overall experience.
In conclusion, Shanghai Express has its strengths in terms of its hidden location, efficient service, and praised food quality. However, there are several weaknesses that should be addressed, including the lack of unique flavors, inconsistencies in service and atmosphere, concerns about hygiene, and issues with accurate representation of menu items. By addressing these weaknesses, the restaurant can strive to improve and deliver a more exceptional dining experience to its customers.

Yeah what can I say it's nice not too bad lacks unique flavours needs some more flavour if I'm honest feels rushed and careless
The staff friendly and nice
Still can't dine in as they are still so concerned about covid. The food is amazing but only take away when they advertise its still dine in? So no atmosphere at all and not much service
The worst Chinese “restaurant” I have ever visited! The FSA (Food Standards Agency) Should be shutting places like this DOWN. Over priced for dire food, what a insult to Chinese cuisine.. It was only because we had a few drinks we had the misfortune of “dining here.. We had to send the chicken satay back the chicken was like it was covered in jelly and rubbery and the satay sauce was oily.. My partner sent it back as soon as she had one mouthful. We was then informed by the waitress that the chicken was boiled!! SMH.. Was replaced with a beef satay which was worse again rubbery and looked like winalot prime ie DOG FOOD.. Absolutely disgusting... I could say more about this place but I can’t be bothered.. I had the runs for days after eating here.. All I can say is if you in Newquay Cornwall as a tourist etc AVOID!
First impressions were not great, it took us three trips around the town centre to even find the place. On finding the restaurant and climbing the stairs I wasn't sure if we were going to eat or have our kidneys removed (the stairs are sketchy to say the least) but after being seated by the friendly staff I felt happy I wasn't going to have any organs removed so I decided to order. The food was actually very good, if not a little on the expensive side and was served quickly. All in all a good experience.
Average Food.
Not the worst that I have ever had, but far from the best. Really lacking any significant flavours.
Pricing is Fair.
Prices are reasonable. Not too expensive, Not too cheap.
Hygiene is Questionable.
I have significant concerns about the hygiene standards here. Just walking in the inch thick dust is immediately visible. The carpet has not been cleaned for a very long time, let alone vacuumed. I do not imagine that the kitchen would be much better.
Ordered the special hotbox which according to the website is a selection of salt and pepper items chips rice and curry sauce. What came was awful and completely not what the website stated only ribs, prawn toast fried chicken and spring rolls. When I called the restaurant apparent the hotbox doesn't exist and they don't know why the website says this. Food was awful would not recommend
