Quick Facts About The Back Road
The Back Road place has several strengths based on the comments provided. Firstly, it is described as a "great wee bar and lounge" with a friendly atmosphere, making patrons feel welcome. The service is consistently praised as friendly, enthusiastic, and helpful. The staff are described as approachable and accommodating, going out of their way to ensure a pleasant experience for customers. This is a significant strength as good service is crucial in the hospitality industry.
The food at The Back Road place is also a strength. There is a consensus among the comments that the food is enjoyable, value for money, and cooked to a high standard. Specific dishes such as the beer battered fish, steak pie, and roast beef are mentioned as being particularly delicious. The food receives positive comments not only in terms of taste but also portion sizes, with the roast beef dish being cited as having generous servings. This is important as good quality and satisfying food can contribute to customer satisfaction and repeat visits.
The community aspect is highlighted as another strength of The Back Road place. It is described as having a great community and being the last remaining pub in the area, which suggests that it holds an important place in the local community. The fact that the pub has managed to stay open amidst the closure of other pubs is noteworthy. A strong sense of community can attract a regular customer base and create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.
There are also weaknesses mentioned in the comments that should be addressed by The Back Road place. Firstly, it is noted that the service staff are young and still learning their job. While their enthusiasm is appreciated, it suggests that there may be room for improvement in terms of experience and training. This could impact the speed and efficiency of service. It would be advisable for the management to provide adequate training and support to help the service staff develop their skills.
There are also a few comments regarding the undercooked vegetables and the quality of the pudding. While the roast beef is praised, it is mentioned that the accompanying vegetables were undercooked. Additionally, the pudding is described as not being "so fab." These comments highlight the inconsistency in the quality of the food. It is important for The Back Road place to ensure that all dishes, including the sides and desserts, are consistently prepared to a high standard. Any issues with undercooked vegetables or subpar desserts should be promptly addressed to maintain customer satisfaction.
Furthermore, the fact that one commenter mentions that they would have liked roast potatoes with their meal suggests that there may be limitations or lack of variety in the menu options. Providing a wider range of side dishes and accommodating different dietary preferences could enhance the dining experience and attract a more diverse customer base.
In conclusion, The Back Road place has several strengths, including a friendly atmosphere, excellent service, and enjoyable food. However, there are also weaknesses that should be addressed, such as the young and inexperienced service staff, inconsistent food quality, and limited menu options. By addressing these weaknesses and building on their strengths, The Back Road place can continue to provide a great experience for their customers and foster a strong sense of community in the area.

Great wee bar and lounge. Updated review 18Aug22. Glad to see it reopen after Covid and new owners are making a decent go of it including decent food at lunchtimes. Always a friendly welcome and good service. Reasonable priced menu two course £11.99. Great beer battered fish, and steak pie was bursting with filling. Will gladly be back again (Dec 2022, just been in for lunch again. Still fantastic , steak pie was great!)
The pub pub has just recently started serving food an with a young service staff still learning their job very enthusiastic and helpful. The food was enjoyable and value for money. Will visit again
Great wee pub made welcome by staff
Revisited today March 2022. Had a meal and was delighted. Best fish I have had in ages. Cooked to perfection. Great, friendly service. Highly recommend. Last pub left in Stonehouse. 25 years ago there were at least 4 others. I am not a pub goer so cannot comment on the bar. I do occasionally go for lunch in what must be the lounge. Comfortable place to go for a meal. Always good, friendly service.
Great atmosphere, great food, and a great community. A really brilliant night - thoroughly recommended.
Fantastic service top notch. Roast beef was lovely, loads of it and tasty. Would have liked roast potatoes with it and veg was a little under cooked. Pudding umm not so fab. But ice cream was lovely .
